My bro and I were on vacation with him and he'd played tennis that day and had a small dinner... and we were all talking while he took his shot... he may have done double fast acting or something...

Anyway, he woke up raving mad and his blood sugar was down in the low 20's.

Sometimes even with supplies and emergency stuff around the worst can happen. He was too out of it to be able to go get orange juice or something.

Hm... true. I guess I was lucky in that my father's stuff with diabetes was fairly... well managed... at least I never got to see that. He did get cranky sometimes though.

It was funny when I learned about diabetes as part of some First Aid courses and I was reading out the symptoms of hypoglycaemia -- particularly the bit about crankiness.

"I DO NOT GET CRANKY WHEN I HAVE LOW BLOOD SUGAR!!!"

Well, considering you posted a thread about it, then I figured you were in some way unhappy about it.

Or is this just one of those "and I'm proud of it" threads?

As for the "stupid" thing, I only got the impression you were down on your intelligence from the comment: "I have average, if not below average mental facilities".

Your entire first post reads like you're very down on yourself. So I was trying to help.

If you are happy with yourself, what is the problem?

I was bitten by something, but I'm not sure what it was. Whatever it was, it itched, and the skin flaked, for about two years afterwards.

I'm guessing a spider of some description... it was on my toe.

To image how I reacted: (insert the sissiest, most Female-ish, high pitched scream a boy can make while going through puberty) yeah I shook that FUCKer off and Stomped it to DEATH!!!!

HA HA HA!!!!!! I regained my manliness at that point. but yeah it was pretty scary.

Since robbing another of life is truly the essence of manhood.
I don't see why spiders are so awful, just because they bite, or that they can, improbably, kill. What doesn't?

I am not sure, but spiders are probably "scary" because they are one of the few creatures that can kill that we come into contact within in our own homes and back yards.

Other animals kill, but we don't seem to have as much contact with them so I don't know if they freak as much of us out.

Plus, growing up you get to see everyone else freak out and then you adopt that fear / phobia yourself.

Cause nothing has happened thus far to cause your health to fail or internal organs to be severely damaged enough for you to die. Your parents managed to avoid killing you in the womb and in your early years, and you've managed to avoid killing yourself since.

If you're after a reason or a meaning behind your existence... I personally don't believe in that. You have to make your own reasons.

Probably, particularly in the average Australian backyard. But people tend not to freak out so much about them as they do about spiders and snakes. Which has gotta have an impact as a child (rational or otherwise).

I dunno, but I still have it in my memory the times that people freaked out about spiders and snakes when I was a kid, or told me they were dangerous. I never got the same freaking out thing about the bottles of poison in the back shed, or the power tools, or whatnot...

Do you really think there are no reasons to live?

I may not believe in there being an inherent meaning or purpose to life, but I have reasons to live. But I am sure my reasons for being are different to yours. And it may simply be possible that you have not found your reasons yet... I'm not sure that people are really born with them.

What is it about the world, your life that you value, and why? They could be reasons.

This is getting rather philosophical.

You don't have to do anything if you don't want to.

If you don't want to live, then don't. Doing so will hurt other people, but then that only matters to you if you value those people. If you don't, then does it matter at all?

Do you actually want some kind of help, or are you just philosophically babbling?

It won't bother anyone. In such a case, should I quit "babbling" and get to the point, as some might say?

There's a point? Really??

The Officer's Club is traditionally a place where people seek help for things. I would like to know if you are actually trying to seek help, or if you are trying to start a philosophical debate. Because if its the latter, I'm out, never had the stomach to go and read a bunch of Nietzsche or anything like that.

But I don't think it's in a spot where I could just bump it against something else.

Possibly if something else struck my leg though.

See photo... bruise slightly faded now.

Well, I posted a little more yesterday. I've not been feeling well, it was a good distraction at work in between calls.

The doctor thinks my tonsillitis might not be tonsillitis..... it might be Glandular Fever (mono)

I probably won't be posting that much today; I have to go see the medical Vampire now.

After further reflection, I shouldn't really care about fitting in, now should I? It would be rather boring, I suppose.

It's nice to have some sense of belonging, but I guess it depends what you mean by "fitting in". I "fit in" with a bunch of weird geeky types, but other than that, everyone else thinks I'm weird.

I'm happy with most people thinking I'm weird though Or crazy.

No, he isn't. Elmo is a long-term, valued member of the forum, and obviously won't be around for a while because of his move. He posted in this forum because here is where he hangs out and most of his friends are.

I'm happy he let us know what is going on

As for the move, good luck, Elmo. Hope it all goes well, and everything settles in nicely. Take your time, and hope to see you back here
