I've decided that leg ham -- real leg ham, off the bone -- is special.

It's special cause I only get to eat it at Christmas time. It's a bit much for me to buy a leg of ham any other time (I'm a single woman who lives alone). So I only ever get it at Christmas.

And I love it sooo much.

I ate so much ham today. So much... it was so beautiful

Ahhh, Birthday Presents. Kinda fun, until you suspect they are D.O.A. Warranty.

My mother purchased for me -- at my request -- a KVM switch. I currently have 1 Intel Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo 2.0ghz) and 1 Athlon XP 3000+ that I switch between depending on what I am doing. Because switching between the two machines results in a lot of tangled cables, cursing and annoyance, I thought a KVM switch might actually make things easier for me.

So far, it has only resulted in further cursing.

I cannot get my brand new ATEN CS-1762 2 Port DVI KVM Switch to function. I also get mild electrical shocks when I accidentally touch the end of the power adapter.

It behaves very unpredictably, with the only common thing really being that the mouse and keyboard will not work on any computer, any configuration, at all. The keyboard and mouse are both Microsoft, a Microsoft Natural Keyboard, and a Microsoft OEM Optical Mouse. Not exactly thrilling hardware, but it works, and more importantly neither make my RSI flare up too bad so I stick with them.

Other than that, it only shows the display some of the time -- ie, sometimes it might show the display up to the login screen of the OS. Sometimes it might keep the display steady, but with graphical glitching. Sometimes it won't show the display of the OS at all.

With sound, it seems to consistently get sound from Mac OS X, but not from XP.

I'm just annoyed, y'know. I reckon this is an RTB, Dead on Arrival Warranty. Cause there are only so many fucking ways one can plug in a fucking KVM and it just doesn't work no matter what configuration I put it in, or how many times I reboot everything.

Can you think of any magical "tricks" that KVM's have that the instructions aren't telling me, cause I sure as fuck can't. I want to throw something at some poor ATEN employee right now (who likely doesn't deserve it). Maybe I'm just pissed cause I've taken several mild electrical currents through the fingertips now, making said fingertips tingly and me irritable.

Why do I have the worst bloody luck with just about everything?

I would now like to throw my KVM switch at some poor bastard at "ATEN" (the manufacturer) as it is becoming apparent that it does not work.

This pisses me off all the more because I understand that this device cost my mother a lot of money to purchase for me, and that she was a little bit disappointed / upset that it cost so much. It also took a long time for her to order in (it was ordered before my birthday on the 10th and I only got it today at Christmas).

And now I'm going to have to take it back to her, and tell her that it doesn't work. And I'm gonna feel like I'm a right ole bitch doing so.

I'm a fairly quiet drunk myself. I also keep an eye on myself, so the "drunk" stuff I tend to do seems to be more motor skills related -- although I can get a bit talky if somebody engages me in conversation. If they don't though, I am quite quiet and people think that I'm "handling my alcohol well" when in all reality I've started to have to *think* about simple things like walking.

Fun Fact: I once fell down a flight of stairs when I was drunk. After I'd finished tumbling to the bottom, I just stood up like nothing had happened at all and kept on walking. But boy was I sore the next day...

Thanks! As for its broken-ness, I keep seeing different things on different Windows XP IE 6 machines, so I don't know what the deal is -- I'm pretty confused.

Oh well, it works in everything else for certain! So I'm using it now, can't be arsed waiting till next year.

It's taking me too long to work out what things are.

New Adobe CS3 Icons

I've worked out where Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, Flash, Flex, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, InDesign, ColdFusion and Acrobat are, but there are a few I'm not sure about. For example -- "Ai" = Adobe Illustrator?

This is confusing. I also can't work out why some things are grouped together with certain colours...

EDIT: however, it is fun matching up some things with Elements from the Periodic Table. Br -- Bromine and Adobe Bridge

Can you work out what all the icons are?
