Excellent work on the game here, KATW -- you've taken it beyond anything I could have ever thought of. Nicely done. ![]() |

I usually don't ask for a lot of help since I like to figure things out for myself, but this time I'm at a loss. I'm trying to put simple stats on the main page like number of posts, amount of experience, level, and experience left for the logged in user. I was able to do posts and username (those were easy since you can pull those from MySQL), but doing things like EXP and level are not stored on any tables, they are figured out based on registration date. I tried looking at the code in profile.php to match up, but trying to get exp/level/etc to show for the logged in user is the tricky part. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks. My main board is using 1.A2.(edited by VGFreak877 on 11-28-05 02:14 PM) |

| Part of that code was right Ice Man. However, in that first line you have to put in this:
$loguser[exp]=calcexp($loguser[posts],(ctime()-$loguser[regdate])/86400); I was able to pull that exact line from profile.php. I was also able to figure it out from there -- thanks for the help. (edited by VGFreak877 on 11-28-05 03:32 PM) |

I welcome you to Acmlm's Board. I, too, am learning Japanese -- I have been for 2 years now. There are a lot of good books out there for learning the language. The language is only hard if you get frustrated easily -- I like a challenge and the possibility of learning so many things about the language. If you want any help learning it, let me know.
Edit: Aw, some of the Japanese characters turn into garbage on here. ![]() (edited by VGFreak877 on 12-01-05 01:11 PM) (edited by VGFreak877 on 12-01-05 01:14 PM) |

| From what I can see at first glance, there's a $tblend tag that's missing and meshing into your $footer. Other than red Xs all over the place, that is the only thing I can see there. | |||

| Okay, the brackets have nothing to do with the error at hand here. I may know what the problem is. Check to make sure that the variable $anncs is calling for fields that are actually in the announcements table in PMA. Those errors came up for a reason, as it would likely be one of these three possibilities: (1) The setup was done wrong. (2) The announcements table is misspelled. (3) Or one of the fields that is being called in that query line is missing. (edited by VGFreak877 on 01-16-06 01:37 AM) |

| Okay, just a couple of things that I'm curing about:
(1) I'm having a little problem displaying day views and then having them reset whenever it turns midnight (servertime). I think it has something to do the ctime variable to reset it (and use an if statement), but it doesn't reset when it turns midnight. (2) This is the one I'm most concerned about: Displaying the Top 5 or so members that have a certain characteristic (like most posts, most money, etc). I know how you set it up, but it only displays one entry -- the top entry -- no mater if I put the LIMIT 5 command there or not. Any ideas on how this can be done would be most appreciative. Thanks. Here's the page I want to put it on: The Stats Page (edited by VGFreak877 on 04-13-06 02:20 PM) |

Yeah, Tokyo is a hustle and bustle place, that's for sure. One thing that I found out quick is you don't do much travelling around there when everyone else is going to work. Fortunately, most of the time when I went out, it was after rush hour. The few times that I did go during rush hour, it was interesting being shoved inside the car and still more people piling in! But I expected that, so I didn't really care. I was there the last week of March, first week of April. Time went by so fast there, that the two weeks was over before I knew it. Akihabara was a lot of fun -- seeing all of those electronics everywhere, and all the people dressing up in their unique clothing. Japan is definitely a lot of fun, as I plan on going back there next year.
beneficil, are you fluent in Japanese? If not, how long have you been studying? Translation Note: "Sumimasen" すみません also means "excuse me" when you're trying to get someone's attention politely. No, it doesn't mean "Thank you." ![]() (edited by VGFreak877 on 05-29-06 10:09 AM) |

You know, I must not hear "sumimasen" to mean Thank You that much, which is probably why I forgot that it meant that. Thanks for correcting me, beneficii-sensei. Yeah, I know what you mean there Surlent -- I spent a lot of money getting the trip to Japan this year going. But it was definitely worth it, and I would definitely do it again. ![]() |

| Well, time to make my quarterly post, lol. Anyway, here are the games that I'm going to get in the near future:
1. Valkyrie Profile 2 Tri-Ace and Square-Enix get better all the time and this game more than proves it. The screenshots and sample movies I have seen of this game are absolutely extraordinary. I like the idea that Tri-Ace wanted to go back before the first storyline. And as always, Motoi Sakuraba is having a hand in the soundtrack -- the first game I remember him composing music for was for Tales of Destiny. (Yeah, I know he's done more before that, but I haven't played those games.) 2. Radiata Stories I heard this game wasn't all that great, but then I haven't played it yet. I might just go ahead and buy it just for the heck of it (it's only about $20 now anyway). 3. Tales of the Abyss Supposedly, this game has battle system similar to Star Ocean. I also collect RPGs, and this game will no doubt be picked up by me. Again, Motoi Sakuraba has a hand in the soundtrack for this game. Man, this guy is everywhere. But hey, I'm not complaining.
4. Square-Enix's Massive Re-Releases There are a number of games that Square-Enix is re-releasing. So far, I have only seen this in Japan though. A bunch of the Dragon Warrior games -- 4, 5, 7 and even 8 are marked down to about $23. I will be getting all four of those eventually. Also Legend of Mana is reduced to $15 and all the Final Fantasies for the PS1 have been reduced as well. I always wanted to play FF9 in Japanese, lol. Well, there you go. Of course, I'm getting the Japanese versions of these games. ![]() (edited by VGFreak877 on 08-10-06 12:47 PM) |

| Congratulations on getting to 5 years Kario, in about a few months, it'll be 3 years for me since I first registered here. Anyway, here's some pics for you, not the best, just something that I threw together. Use them, abuse them, whatever you want to do, lol.

If anyone has watched the Price Is Right, that sound is when someone loses at a pricing game. I laughed quite a bit when I heard it, and for some reason, kept refreshing the page a few times. I laugh even more when I see threads like this as well. ![]() |

| Well, let's see if I can cover all the bases here. It's either:
(1) You need to change your rankset in editprofile first. (2) Most of the ranksets that are there won't show any images until you get to about 10 posts or so. You'll know when the rankset has changed when your name appears in the list of names for each rankset (ranks.php). But I just tried to change ranksets on your board and they seem fine to me. ![]() |

| Wow, that was some funny stuff there HyperHacker, thanks for sharing that.
Some translation notes for you: (1) During the piece when the bean and the puyo puyo piece came down, he said "kankei nai" which means "nothing to do with." (2) "mechakucha muzukashii na reberu juu!" = "Wow, Level 10 is very hard!" (3) He's explaining what Tetris should be and not what just happened there, lol. (4) "me~ waru(i) naru wa!" = "My eyes are going bad!" (5) "SAIZU awahen!" = "The size doesn't match!" (6) "hara ga tatsu omou ka yarou!" = "Man, this is making me really mad!" (7) "kinoko wo MARIO ga kuute ookinate hamidashite owatta yanke!" = "Mario ate the mushroom, become big and stretched out to make it end!" (I might be off a little bit on the translation.) I'll add more later when I get a chance. |

Wow, I remember that layout (the Milly layout) when I started here 3 years -- man, that was a long time ago. Well, just wanted to say happy 23rd birthday to you Ace, and it's good to see you posting again, even if it's only today. ![]() |

Let me just say that this game is pure awesomeness. I received this game last week along with a number of others from YesAsia. Unfortunately, this game isn't coming out for another 2 months here in America, but it's well worth the wait, let me tell you. When you put the game in at first, watch the opening CG movie, it's about 5 minutes and it tells the story of what's going to happen. The game has 6 chapters in it, but there's a lot to do. The potential for powerful characters is unreal. I believe the game has about 30 characters you can level up. You will get to meet a couple of characters from the first VP -- like Lezard Valeth and Arngrim (Aruze in the Japanese version). The battlegrounds are amazing -- it doesn't get boring at all. The nice thing about the fighting is that you can fight most of the bosses again and again. Overall, this game has massive replay value. Anyway, just wanted to give you a little insight as to the awesomeness of this game.
Right now, I am in Chapter 3 with out 12 hours into the game and my characters averaging between 1 and 10. Anyone have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them. (edited by VGFreak877 on 08-30-06 03:26 PM) |

Anything done by Motoi Sakuraba -- Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, Tales of Destiny, etc. My favorite soundtrack of those listed is a toss between Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean -- a lot of the songs use a flute/strings combination, which I like. "Confidence in the Domination" from Valkyrie Profile is one of the tunes that Motoi nicely redid on the arranged album. ![]() |
