| Out of sheer boredom, I went for the best runs I could get in Vanilla Fortress, which is the hardest castle-type level in the game. Valley Fortress is so much easier when you have the rhythm down, while water is evil no matter what. I also shoved in a Butter Bridge 1 run, because it's a fun level and has opportunities for Koopa Jump Abuse. Although, I didn't actually abuse it.
But really, I picked Vanilla Fortress because it's so hard to actually score points in it. You've got the feathers, and whatever you can hit with the cape... and that's IT. So it's basically a speed run, but with killing everything and getting all the powerups. Was great fun. I actually doubt the testers at Nintendo are as good at the games as the hardcore gamers are. They had to go on afterwards and test other games, but we kept playing the same game over and over again. You know? Oh, and I'd love to see a score for Forest of Illusions 1. *snicker* |

I tried so many times, but I didn't manage to clear a half billion on FoI 1. So... Close...! In case you were wondering, I usually submit my first score, then hand calculate my next ~10 runs and submit the best one. And they don't actually do the ghost runs, they construct a sequence of controller commands for them and record THAT. Like assisted speedrunning. Or at least that's what I've heard, dunno if I'm right. |

| Mine contains a sprite of Tails flying, and a few hundred pixels beneath, there's a sprite of Sonic falling, and a few hundred pixels below him there's a really big field of spikes. Written in transparent lettering all over the screen is "oops!", then one time at the top it says "Mwahahahahahaha".

| I'm willing to bet you didn't bother actually moving around the secondary entrances. You know, x and y position?
Because dying when you enter a door can only happen if you end up inside a solid object, at least with the original game's code. What's with the weird text wrapping? It's annoying to try to read things when they're put in such tiny columns. |

Adric smiles. No immediate obligations... Razeal was probably not in serious danger, so it's time to get going with the spell. Slamming the book shut and jamming it into a pocket, Adric raises both arms to the skies, calling forth their wrath, their fury, their rage... Storm clouds begin to form above him, drawing in any and all other clouds in sight. A thick layer of darkness forms in seconds, bright sparks of green lightning flying back and forth, providing sporadic light to the city-turned-battlefield, its sun having been eclipsed quite unfairly by a simple application of gas pressure principles. Adric turns his attention to the struggle below. He's not just watching, though, he's staring intently at each figure in turn, observing each target's unique mana signature. It takes time to do this, but when it's complete he could recognize any of them with his senses from miles away. It's a bit lower-tech than other scanning methods, but it works very well for aiming... |

| Mmm. My email isn't working properly right now, so you can download these movies here. There's one of the Wiggler jump and one of Ludwig's Castle, both mostly just showoff runs. Though of course the Wiggler movie doesn't show the most important part, which is finishing with a ~5 mil score while still having more than 120 time. I have secrets even to you.
Oh, and let me take a moment to shamelessly advertise my website, which can be accessed by clicking on the flame icon in the lower right corner of my layout. I'll be adding a SMW section soon, but first I have to add the next chapter of the story and the DDR section. So it's coming, but from far away. |

| You want practice? OK.
Go to #5 Roy's Castle, and fly through the first room without using the moving platform. Great practice for aiming your flight, as well as the spin jumps you get after you get 'hit.' Because you're not supposed to be able to, but you can. Aside from that... Fly through Forest Secret (Is it Forest Secret 2? The fast background.) and see how many times you can fly between the start and end platforms without going above the top layer of enemies. But you probably shouldn't need practice, as the cape is easy as hell to use. |

| Okay, so I did. I can't say I'm impressed... Well, I could, but I'd rather not lie.
I saw only two levels modified... Forgive me if I was too lazy to look beyond Donut Plains 2. The Bullet Bill thing... How about, Vanilla Dome 4? Much better practice. The note block challenge was rather poorly constructed. The steep dive against a note block wall was interesting, but there's no need to do that in the actual game, so it's not even worthwhile practice. Except of course in flying over objects, like the top of the note block wall. So meh. |

Yeah, Cave Story roxxorz. So... what's everyone's favorite Polar Star upgrade? Sure, the Spur does ridiculous damage and the Snake is amazingly useful for killing things before they become problems (that is, come out from behind a wall), but I prefer the Machine Gun. It's just too cool to fly around with it after you get the turbocharge. But the point is really moot, because I just use it to get around and use the lv3 Blade to kill everything. Nemesis is for losers. Yay, Cave Story! |
