I've always considered  and  to be more of a "I can't believe I'm saying this" indicator, and  as a general purveyor of happiness and warmth.
I totally agree with you about the  , of course. Which is why I use it before any series of posts that will be especially sarcastic.

Specialization is the same thing as stupidity? I never knew. More seriously, if everyone was "smart" as ||bass defines it, then everyone would spend a lot of time reinventing the wheel. This is wasted effort that ould be spent increasing the knowledge base from which others learn. A community of people who all know the basic tenets of every subject ever has far less knowledge than a community of people who are all experts at different subjects. This is a choice that has to be made because of limitations based on the amount of time available to each person. You can't know everything about everything by yourself, because there isn't enough time to study it. So if you decide to learn as much as you can about every subject, even those you have little to no interest in, you will be far less able to reach an expert level of knowledge in any of those fields, let alone all of them. This doesn't apply to truly smart people, of course. Because to be truly smart, you need to have such an incredible rate of learning that in one lifetime you can become an expert in every subject, nay, extend the amount of knowledge available in every subject. ||bass, you are the only truly smart person I have ever met. Thank you for teaching me what I should strive for. Even more seriously. I actually do agree with part of what you're saying. It's good to have a thorough understanding of many subjects, because specialized knowledge in a vacuum is extremely dangerous. Still, I hold that with the variety of learning you advocate, the human community would never learn anything new, despite the apparently high amount of knowledge in each individual person. Still more seriously. I am greatly amused by how suddenly and totally we have abandoned the original topic. |

| Let's see...
I have a nail file right in front of me that I could stab him with. Also a large pair of scissors and a large metal lamp. My computer chair is tall-backed and I'm short so you can't see if I'm in it from the door. Near my bed there's another lamp, two sharpened and polished letter openers (read: Daggers not subject to weapons law) that I know how to use and can throw farther than any hallway in my house, some pieces of shelving that would make great blunt instruments, and several hardback books. In between the computer chair and the bed is a metal fold-up chair that doesn't weigh very much but is big enough to be a hassle if it's thrown at you. In that same category are bedsheets, pillows, clothes, a sleeping bag, and a foam DDR pad. However my combat reflexes are probably dull as hell from not actually practicing against people in the past few years, so I'd most likely get beaten. In the room that contains my video game systems, I would just have to use a book, or a plate or bowl. The only other place in the house I would be is the kitchen, where there are sharp implements galore. So... From anywhere I would be, there's something that can be used as a weapon within reach. |

| Man, After Dark! was absolutely the best while I was growing up.
I remember the screensaver with the smiley faces that bounced down and made noises when they hit things. Also some things with crazy shifting gradients, not unlike Cycler. Thinking about Flying Toasters and After Dark takes you back, you know? |

Sure, you can say that idiots aren't allowed here. No problems with that, it's an admirable (though elitist) policy and it works. But you decided to hack their board, 'spy' on it, and/or cause them tons of problems just because you don't like them and you consider them stupid. If you're in this category above, you're an asshole. You're also a bully, and you're not worthy of anyone's respect. And if you never expected your actions to have any consequences, you might also be an idiot. I would say you're lowered yourself to their level, but you haven't. You've gone lower, as impossible as you might think that is. This makes me sad because I love this community and the people here and I can no longer believe that this place is a haven for nice people with more than three brain cells. But you know, I still love you guys. I don't want to leave just because some people have been revealed to be way more childish than I had inferred before. I can accept that you're an asshole. I'm just... shaken. And I felt like I had to share my opinion. Thanks for reading. |

Just toss that in with other things that will never happen, like another good Chrono game. While I'm at it, Kyrandia, Might and Magic, and Spindizzy all need sequels and won't get them. |
