Nope. As always, you have to go one step at a time, and each step has to be a word.

Hypothetically: I am a parent (adoption) violently opposed to conventional male-female marriage. Am I allowed to demand that any story that has a man kissing a woman not be read to the class? What if I'm the only one with that opinion about that sort of thing?

I agree with Arwon. Kids aren't as stupid as most people seem to think. It seems to be fairly common to assume that they don't have real thoughts or form their own opinions. I think the school system would be far more effective if people (because children are people) were taught a basic understanding of most subjects, then allowed to pursue those academic topics most interesting to them. This isn't realistically possible at this point, sure, but that's mostly because people don't believe that children could want to study. Oddly enough, the idea of "college" doesn't scare them. Hmm.

But that's actually just my opinion. It might not be correct, because I'm certainly not all the school-age students, and I don't magically know how they would prefer to learn. Maybe I'm being too optimistic, thinking that given the facilities to learn and the knowledge of how to use those facilities and left mostly to their own devices for a while that they would actually get anything done.

I also believe that anyone who would play sports all day long in the absence of a mandatory education deserves what they get when I see them earning minimum wage at the grocery store. People who don't want to learn shouldn't have time wasted on them.

Woo, tangent.

If it's capitalized, then it's a proper noun. It's a name from the Bible.

The first step would be "In No Cent" not "In Nocent" but I'm being lenient as this is the first time and I didn't give an example of three words at once.

Grond is an acceptable word. I was worried about "ter" for a moment, but it was okay.

I don't like the separation of the sim-battle and story forums.

Also, as a result of them being joined, you can no longer access the second page of the new forum. Well, you CAN, but there aren't any page links.

(not...going...to...be...three...weeks...)

Krishen slowly lowers himself to the ground. There's no limit to how much power can be in too small a space, but there is a general trend towards more difficult to contain as the total power rises. However, there are several valleys in this relation, amounts of energy that are far too easy to hold back, holes in the graph that make no sense and should not exist. Until recently, Krishen was occupying one of them. Despite having released energy, he has made it far more difficult to hold control of what remains.

But there's more than one valley.

As Krishen touches down lightly on the grassy ground, he fires five multicolored spheres of energy into a slow, orbit around him. Each sphere is about a foot in diameter, orbiting five feet from Krishen, and, you guessed it, contains just enough power to require only a token containment force. This also leaves Krishen with enough to put him in his own rift.

"I haven't thanked you properly yet. This has been an enlightening experience so far. So thank you, Schwa, for being such an enthusiastic student."

Student?

Ah. I'm sorry. Not having ever seen the board code, I had no idea that the number of pages was determined on the fly by the number of threads.

Thank you.

(I doubt that Krishen's power output rivals that of the Gods... But then, knowing Corona... /shrug)

...Damn. My old friend must have overestimated Schwa's knowledge of his own limits...
His energy is fluctuating rapidly. To think that he would actually try to contain the power as I did, knowing that he lacks the training...
Well, I told him there were strings attached. Still, it hurts to have to lead him out. It will take longer to convince him of his own power,
and his pride will be shot. *sigh*...
Might as well salvage the situation...

Krishen instantly dismisses his spheres, then calmly, but firmly, addresses Schwa.

"If anyone can free you, it's you. You've known from the beginning that everything here is fake. I even had to ask Corona to come over here, so that you wouldn't think I was him in disguise. You will only die if you believe you will die. Sadly, I'm not allowed to interfere directly. So please, believe you can hear me."

As Krishen speaks, his appearance changes, slowly and subtly at first, gradually accelerating. His skin lightens, and straight, gray-white hair grows on his bald head, as his body shrinks slightly and he loses an inch from his height. He walks towards Schwa...

The long grass fades into rock and sand, the sparse trees change to natural statues. A nearby forest evaporates, leaving behind nothing to distinguish it from another patch of ground on this plateau... plateau? No, now this is a canyon, as the land shifts silently to accomodate the old reality. And it is the old reality that now flows back into the world.

The one thing that is left unchanged is Schwa...

"Oh, yes, I could free you. I will not free you, because Sensae does not give his students all the answers, because Adric does not rip wholes in the universe, because the world is not overrun by demons from the darkest pits and most sinister hells you can imagine. Now. Free yourself."

Krishen now stands within a few feet of Schwa. And his eyes tell a fourth reason, should Schwa care to look...

Because freedom given from outside is no freedom at all...

As Schwa leaps, Krishen does not move. It simply becomes fact that he had always been a few feet to the left of the place Schwa attacks. The fact that this was not true until an instant ago has no relevance to reality.

"If it is hard, then believe it is not hard. But please, do not force your will upon the universe.

Asking nicely works quite a bit better, I've found."

"You're insane."
"I know."
"Don't come crying to me when the hero dies."
"I kept you from meddling. That'll give me some piece of mind."
"Hah. I'll make sure to commission a medal."

Krishen holds out his right hand, and suddenly it had always contained a silver longsword. It glows blue slightly as he holds it horizontally, and though he doesn't look ready for Schwa's next move, it's a good bet that says he will always have been ready by the time it happens.

Yes. Always.

My collection got nuked when my old computer died about a year ago, but I've been working on it, and I'm up to (at least) 500 midi and mp3 files. I doubt I'll ever have a collection of several thousand, because I don't download songs that I dislike, and video game music is not all wonderful.

FFIX, I'm looking at you.

Right now I'm listening to a playlist containing some tracks from smb3, sonic 3d blast, and dkc2.

Because I'm sure everyone cares what I listen to.

This is pretty cool.

It really screws up if you do the shadow jump later in a level, then die, then come back in and press select. You move to the right position but then the collisions are all wrong. I suspect that this is because it doesn't scroll the foreground when you teleport.

A "go through enemies and some walls" effect might be nice, like the Vanish Cap.

But the levels themselves are maps showing the location of objects and sprites within the level.

The funny part is that I think I don't care but evidently I do because I posted this.

I meant to say, what if temporary Vanish was the special power of Shadow Mario? Together with the power bar only filling up when you kill enemies, you couldn't just avoid everything. Regular Mario's super jump opens areas only he can reach, so Shadow Mario's vanishing through walls could be the equivalent.

Falling through water is a neat idea. It will require careful level design to make water levels possible with both types of Mario. It obviously makes water levels with no floor harder for Shadow Mario, but those that do will probably be faster for the new upgrade.

Also, I think Regular Mario should replace Cape Mario instead of Super Mario, so that getting a mushroom will change you back to Regular instead of doing nothing. Or perhaps you could mess with the priority that the powerups take. Or you could make Regular Mario be Fire Mario and Shadow Mario be Cape Mario, and give Shadow Mario a melee weapon of some kind.
