yes, and thats one reason why I think society as a whole is flawed today. the concept of money (as it is now) needs to be abolished. If I got my hands on any cures (which I do think researchers have -- theres more money in cancer walks and treatments than in a cure.) I would give it away for free.

we need a modern day robin hood of medicine. somebody to do the right thing, and not the profitable one. I should work to help that when Im older...

yeah, Im into heavy metal, death metal, and classical mostly -- but I enjoy playing all styles of music. I wouldve gotten a better one now, but I couldnt get a job this summer -- well, I could have, but I couldnt get there.

anyway, Im gonna practice as hard as I can. Ive waited for years for this. as for bad habits, I thought it would be easier to fret with different fingers instead of the appropriate ones, and it is, but I didnt do that because I figured it would hurt me in the long run.

I just think its... awesome. I know im no hero (was that a pun on the game guitar hero? I never played it), but its just... fun for me. fun I havent had in a long time. it just feels great to hear your guitar sing -- even just a simple chord like D (my favorite so far).

music fulfills me in a way I cant explain. especially music with powerful emotions (hate, love, fear, sadness, joy). thats why I like metal and classical. they show extreme emotion in a pure form thats just... magical. I love my keyboard too, just not as much.

hopefully I'll have as much talent as I do with my keyboard (im pretty good), and not as much as I do with art -- I cant draw a stick figure -- I hated art class last year.

yes, terrorism is definitely wrong. but the rules all change when your fighting against terrorists.

in a normal battle, citizens shouldnt be touched, but the supporters of Hamas (clearly a terrorist syndicate) ARE citizens. and thus, they are terrorists by association. they ELECTED hamas.

like I said, you can only fight fire with fire -- isreal seems to understand that.

I know my beliefs are... quite alternative to say the least... they are effective. I personally think evil is a belief itself, and a belief cannot be "forced out" of anyone. if you want to eradicate a belief (like terrorism) then it is necessary to eliminate those who believe in it.

in a large part, this is why Rome persecuted christians. At the time, they believed that such a peace-loving god (rather than the other religions of the time) would decrease military moral. which DID happen anyway, and along with the invasions afterward, destroyed the western roman empire... which leads me to the fact that the jews did NOT kill jesus, one of them told on him, and the Roman Empire did, but thats another story, for another time.

in short -- I dont agree with the thing about chrisitians -- it just shows my reasoning on this matter. I dont think terrorism is a strong belief like christianity though, and I think it can be defeated. For even Muhammad spoke of peace, and not war, and the true muslims should NOT be supporting terrorism. only psycopathic extremists do that.

if you would like me to explain myself more just ask...

edit:
you will find me quite well-educated on the history of this topic too...
this whole war began because the jews had to flee their home, A.K.A. Diaspora.
they ended up in egypt while looking for a new home, and became slaves. when they were finally free, they attempted to make it back home, and lo and behold, the arabs had settled there.

personally, I think they shouldve left and found a new home, they LEFT, and it was clearly not palestine's fault. but I also think that now this is irrelevant. its a plot of land, and I dont really think its worth war, on either side. sure, I know religion is involved, but quite frankly, I dont care.

I support their decision to attack civilians because it is effective. humanism DOES NOT always save lives -- sometimes it prolongs war, and causes more deaths.

I wish I was still in MS...
back then, I didnt have to try, and got grades of 100 for pretty much every class...
this year (9th grade) I didnt try and got 90s for some classes and high 80s for others...

Im going to try for all 100s next year. I want to go to a really good college, and not take out ANY loans. I dont want debt. When I get a credit card, Im paying everything off that month, and getting rid of it asap. I was thinking of trying to get into MIT for programming, but thats probably out of the question because of those grades below 90.
wanna be a game programmer.

anyway, have fun in high school. that is, if you like more homework.
at least you can look forward to varsity sports! I got my letter the first season, and most other freshmen didnt get one till the end of the year, if at all. of course, most people dont play 3+ sports each year and still do their work...

edit: sorry for driving this so off-topic...

true, but how do we know who DID?
it is safe to assume a majority of their population did indeed vote for hamas as they won the election.

My sorrow goes out to the innocents, and sometimes I wish there was some way to end violence in general. but there was simply no way for them to tell terrorist from citizen -- its the same problem we had in the US while invading Iraq -- you cannot lead a selective war when it comes to terror.

your enemy wears no fatigues... he can be anyone, even the old man at the corner hotel might be plotting to slit a journalists throat in their sleep. like I said -- these are madmen who obey no rules. they will stab your back, lie, cheat... they will preten to be innocent until they have you in a vulnerable position. humanism make such a fight ineffective, as citizens will live but so will the opponent.

it's like playing a game of chess with a king disguised as a pawn. you have to take them all to get checkmate. the isreali's seem to understand htis concept, and thats why I back them.

Its brutal, its sad, and its borderline evil in itself, but its true.

And you also must realise that Hamas and others have done the same and worse to them. Bombing school buses and the like seems a bit worse to me.

but I can play the basic A series chords easily (they're easy... ), and I sorta figured out how to play "la cucaracha" by accident. lol.
I figure its best not to rush things, and Im working on mastering an a series chord progression before moving on. ( A A A A, D D D D, E, E, E, E, A, A, A, A is the progression) I can play the chords, it just takes me time to switch between them -- thats what Im working on.

Im definitely buying an electric guitar -- but it could be a LOOONG time from now.

Posted on 07-11-06 01:44 AM, in whatever happened to quality RPGs? (another rant...) Link
I'm sick of going to EB, and seeing half-ass RPGs.

FF is even begining to get annoying. I recently got Jade Empire, and while it's a great game by todays RPG standards, it would have never held up to the standards of the rpg Golden age.

Elder scrolls is, in my mind, the last quality RPG series (unless the rumors of bethesda buying Fallout are true -- then fallout wins) Game companies are now just trying to rip-off content from other games. "Hey, they're battle system is OK, lets make one similar!"

do we have nobody who is creatively capable of bringing things to the next level? For awhile now, we've had the power in console gaming to make a realistic battle system where the user has more control over their character in battle, but most companies give us even less control than in older RPGS -- in FF3, you could summon, use magic, attack, steal, use an item, defend, etc. in Jade Empire, you get roughly 3 moves per style, 1 of which is always pretty much the same, and just knocks opponents back. the blocking/evasion are nice additions, but they seem to find relatively little use.

Its the same for other rpgs too, however some games (like the KOTOR series) make up for it a bit by showing awesome lightsaber duels/fighting scenes, but in that game, all you needed was to use flurry over and over again to easily win any fight, minus some boss battles (Malak) where you had to run away and heal yourself a bit.

It seems as if this one is an age of FPS. You can find hundreds (upon hundreds) of FPS in the bargain bins for pretty much any console. and, this is probably offensive, but if you only play FPS, I dont even consider you a gamer. your just part of a "fad". While some are good, we dont need 50000 FPS games, but the greed of the gaming industry these days could care less about creativity, and I know 100000 stupid fanboys who think "OMiGoDz0rZ Halo iz the bestest thing ever. Final Fntsy iz ***. Mastedr Chief iz GoD" Sure, there are some good FPS... Half-Life... Halo... Doom... but none of these (by far) are the best games ever created. They dont stand up to NiGhts into Dreams, Chrono Trigger, or other greats for a minute.

Im just sick of seeing RPGs that just dont live up to their genre. Im not saying that todays are bad, not by a longshot, it just seems that their content is being beset by their graphics (a common problem for games -- most game consumers arent gamers, and buy only based on graphics these days).

are there any RPGs that live up to my expectations anymore, or am I just stuck in the past -- a past where gameplay meant more than shiny new graphics? Im done venting steam for now... Post your thoughts here.

I seriously hope that is the truth, but Im not so sure. As I said in my RPG rant, people will care more about "OmIg0Dz ItZ XbOx ad PoRtBle W00t" (thats the actual grammer Xboys think in... I know enough of them.)

even though (most of) us hate it, Microsoft currently is at the head of the game industry -- it used to be people said you played "nintendo" as it was recognised. then it went to "Playstation" when sony came in and took the major hold. Now everybody says XBOX. and it pisses me off to no end -- I have an XBOX, yes, but I proudly say that I mostly use it for ROMS, and I copy rented games. Im proud to rip-off microsoft. they just raise inflation rates anyway -- not like they CAN make any more money.

anyway, all they have to do is throw in PSP quality graphics, and despite the efforts of real gamers, it will succeed. For we are a dying race, and nearly extinct. People that I know already think that the DS is a "Toy" and PSP is a "real system because the graphics are good". I dont know about you guys, but Im thinking I might move to Japan eventually, where some real gamers still exist.

It got to the point where my dad called the cops. The results? Nothing. Why? This person's family is very well known and respected in town, and if he were to do anything wrong, authorities seemed to automatically side with him without even looking into the case..

Justice? My ass.

there is no justice, and there never was. I am living proof of this.

my advice? well, if you were serious about the police ignoring you:

it's mean, but here it is: Video tape her actions, and if the police do nothing, sue the police office. It's like getting your (and everyone elses) taxes back at once (plus some). you'll obviously win the case with video evidence proving their negligent action. Remember, (In the US at least) professionals are held to a higher standard in court, and police officers are professional law enforcement....

after that, go back and file the reports again. They're idiots if they want to lose the same lawsuit against. plus you get some easy $$$.

I say who cares if someone hates you. my name has been dragged through the mud more than I can remember -- thats why Im not going to live here forever. Its a little thing called moving that you can do after you finish school (or even before in many situations)

off-topic:
sorry Im usually not like this, its just that I've been REALLY angry at everything for the past couple months, and I guess Im just venting it out. Ive been doing this in real life too, which is a huge problem for everyone who talks to me .

I'll try to work on it .

on-topic:

for a more realistic (non-elitist) view, Im hoping it fails, if it even gets made.
I doubt it, though. There has been no official annnouncement for this (that Ive seen)
and rumors of an "X-Boy" portable has (honestly) been thrown around by xbox fanboys (xboy originally was meant as an offensive term for xbox fanboy 4-5 years ago...) since the xbox's inception.

its easily understandable as to why these rumors started: MS is the author's favorite company, they think MS can do better than Nintendo and Sony, and they want a new portable, and "boy" is the most well-known suffix for a portable because of gameboy's popularity.

corrections from my previous reply:

as to what I said before, It isnt totally true (just elitist crap). But it is true that MS is doing better than nintendo currently -- I just hope that Nintendo really serious about kicking butt this time, with Sega out of hardware, Nintendo has my full support, as they still seem to focus on gameplay. Theyve been around for over 100 years, and no company is pushing them out. They'll be here for another 100 surely.

well, what I meant by FPS "fad" was that FPS are very, very popular these days. there are so many FPS out there that it isnt even funny.

sure, each is unique in some way, but it seems that every game company has jumped onto the bandwagon.

I like FPS myself, and I own quite a few (Metroid prime/prime 2, turok evolution, halo, halo 2., half-life 2, timesplitters 3) myself. but there comes a point where its totally pointless to release an FPS when you know that there are already 500000 others out there, and yours will be pushed into the bargain bin.

I see it as sort of a "gold rush", and maybe Im wrong, but to me, it looks like people think they can make big $$$ fast on FPS, so many game companies (some most people never even heard about) decide to release a FPS. they need to realize that there is much need for non-shooters out there. (action, adventure, rpg, simulation, otherwise)

this is especially so for the xbox, where you see an FPS wherever you go.

Im also biased because a lot of people I know favor FPS over all other games. Some want a 360 only to play the halo games and (absolutely) nothing else. I have one friend in specific who's eyes light up only when he plays halo.

he *LITERALLY* dreamt about halo. I am totally serious here. he easily falls (very deeply) into fads that a lot of people around him push him into (he listens to certain music and doesnt even know why -- he could care less what it sounds like), and he's self-righteous, even when he's obviously wrong, even when I told him that we didnt get smallpox vaccinations for school.

although this has gone waaaay off-topic, so Im done here.

maybe your right -- this is an age of new gamers with new preferences.
they have every right to have their clones (of games) as we did.

besides, Im an independent game developer myself (working on my first, albeit crappy game now... sort of a space shooter... but instead at sea, and on boats!) Once I work up enough skill, I'll probably try to create my vision of the perfect RPG myself, nd whats better is it'll be open source and multi-platform. (C++/SDL rocks)

personally, I think that the RPG genre needs to undergo an evolution. Something more like Faxandu for NES -- an action/RPG combo.

what is my dream? well, I want TOTAL weapon control -- as in you can swing your sword in whatever direction youd like, clash blades (and overpower depending on your strength), good evasion mechanics (Jade empire did it well, but there is little use for it in that game)

I like the idea of level-ups, but not stat based ones. sure, there should be stat upgrades, but separated from skills. Elder scrolls was OK at this, but they make it too easy to become ultimately powerful (esp in morrowind with the 1 gold training glitch)

I also get the idea (from shenmue 1... the end of 2 screwed it up, and fallout as well) that a realistic RPG can be more immersive than a fantasy one. maybe based off an EMP being released and destroying technology or something. More interesting as it can happen in the forseeable future...

but thats all a LOOOONG way from now. I have one GFX designer, and myself as programmer, and my skills are pretty low-end. Im JUST learning SDL, and I need to learn how to integrate a scripting language into my code to make things easier.

I see it done with all popular games, and I figure itd be very useful to know how to do this myself. I have 2 questions here:

what scripting language is good for gaming/multi-platform? I dont really know many (PHP, but thats no good for this situation)

how do I integrate this into my games? I cant see a way to make my apps run the interpreter and load up the scripts...

is this board even still under development, or is it pretty much done for?

Im going to start a new board soon, and I was thinking about bringing back these most sacred and honored traditions (lol jk)

but seriously, Im going to make some hacks (and distribute them) but if the board is no longer under development, Id take it on myself to try and update from 1.92...

Does anybody even want hacks/updates nowadays? would I just be wasting my time? I was going to create a custom version of te board for myself anyway, but (free) server space isnt easy to find, and I only have 200 megs...

so waht do you guys think, do you want me to do this or not? I guess it's just going to be popular opinion driving my decision here.

I saw that on his cjb site, and was wondering what that was...
I'm happy that it's still under development though. So many of these projects end up dead and lose so much potential.

I think this board will eventually have what it takes to become exceedingly popular -- it seems the exclusive nature of the board already makes an impression on people (only one place to download it online, although Im not sure if acmlm would want the location disclosed as of yet...)

I remember 2 or 3 years ago, when we expected 2.0 to come by christmas. that really worked out didnt it?

anyway, we still don't have a hack archive, do we? I might set a new one up myself.

I know sourceforge is there, but I was wondering what my other options are.

I want to host a site where I can release all (not a single) my projects, and host an acmlmboard (I plan to do modifications and release them). My main focus is game development (C/C++ w/ SDL), and possibly some normal applications that I feel the need to create.

seeing as Im releasing everything as free (speech AND beer) open source, It isnt really an option to pay.

stuff like cpanel is not necessary, and I can install PHPMyAdmin myself.

I have a host now, but they would be unreliable for this.

I do agree with you about the coding though, I remember when people were like "WTF how do I make an admin panel?"

To be honest... Im really surprised that never (fully) happened. It seems so simple, in theory... use a tool like bluefish (HTML/PHP/etc editor) and its just a matter of typing in the database tables . It'll do most of the code for you.

I still might release my own hacks (or whomever wants theirs hosted), but Im currently looking for a better host anyway, so it'll have to wait.
