Newbie here. If anyone here knows any other sites for me to share my hacks, please PM me or whatever. I'll be submitting 3 hacks. One is complete and the other two are currently in the making. One each from NES, SNES, & Genesis.
I'm only here to share my ips patches to those who are interested in hacks. I look forward to seeing my criticism. Good or bad. Also, I know we don't advertise sites. But would it be alright for me to advertise my site in my sig? |

I'll admit that my first hack could have been much better. Don't worry, I intend on getting better next time. Some things I just couldn't help in this rom. As most sprites use the exact same sprites. The player sprites really. Like kicking, jumping, etc. I would have liked to have hacked this games music from different nes games. Sadly, theres no program that I'm aware of that enables me to do that.
Players From left to right. Oni link, Luigi, Arthur, & Megaman. Enemies Enemies range from Octoroks, Ninjas, and most commonly, Iron Knuckles. Bosses From left to right, Horsehead, Triclyde, Dr. Wily, Frankenstein, Bass, Robirdo, Helmethead, King Wart, Dr. Wily in Skull walker, & Phantom Ganon. Please note that not only is the ips patch here, but also the palette file that I made. Be sure to load it up before playing the game. It's much better that way. Hope you enjoy it. I am currently in the making of a snes hack. Castlevania: Dracula X. Aka, Vampires kiss. I used Translhextion on my last nes hack. It seems to find very little text in smc roms. Also refuses to find some of the text that exsits within the game to be changed. I really need to change alot of the text in that rom. Does anyone else know of a better text editor that actually works? If so, it needs to be windows, not a DOS program.

That's why I decide to take different turns. Try something new. No doubt its alot. Mario games seem to be the most popular ones to hack, next to Megaman, Zelda, & Final Fantasy nes games.

My second hack completed. I call it, Castlevania, Death's Defiance. I preferred the European version over the American version. The Europe version is called Vampires Kiss. Richter Belmont is replaced by the Scythe weilding skeleton Grim Reaper. The ips patch is available below for download.

I can tell this is going to be my most difficult game to hack. Sonic the hedgehog 3. Which will be called, "Sonic & Mario" Below is a beta picture of what I am currently working on.
Now you may think this is a photoshop picture. Wrong. This is what the hack will really look like when and if it can be completed. This is not a fake. Its possible, but this is a slow process. I'm using the program YY-CHR to edit all of Tails sprites with Raccoon Mario. I also wanted to hack Dr. Eggman as well. However his sprite might not be possible. I can't seem to locate his sprites anywhere. There just isn't a good program out there, well, a better one to hack genesis sprites. Maybe some the members here know of a much easier program to work on genesis rom sprites? I could really use your help. If anyone knows. I hope to present my hack to you all in the near future something. |

Thanks, Dragonsbrethren. I would register, however, they want me to answer these ridiculous questions, get it wrong a few times, can never go back to try again. Its bogus to go there to get your answers at sws2b. (edited by Guardian on 02-06-06 12:33 AM) |

Metal Knuckles, I truely am thankful that you showed me that site. Editing the tails sprite with SonikSprite is going to be much, MUCH more easier now. I've decided that the nes bit raccoon Mario will be replaced with the much advanced snes/gba sprite of Raccoon Mario.
As for the The Sega Data Compressor, I'm not quite sure how to work that confusing program. How exactly do you decompress, then what? How do you edit the sprites after that? If I could only find the on/offset of Robotniks sprites. (edited by Guardian on 02-06-06 02:44 AM) |

We do that to separate ourselves from the more "fanboy" oriented sites, since we center around research and advanced ROM modification ("advanced" meaning disassembly-level stuff). If you take and pass the quiz, then you're more than welcome to go through a Trial Member period (30 posts). Matter of fact, I just passed the quiz today and a member. I have done my research, the problem is getting around it. There's nothing wrong with asking a question. |

If so, I need your help please. Can anyone assist me?
I'm working on the sonic3 rom. Offset # 18041E was worked on using tile layer pro. Robotnics sprite has been changed. Now I need to re-insert it back into the rom using a hex editor. I'm currently using the program "Hex workshop". What do I do now in step by step please. If anyone needs me to be more explainatory, I will. |

Ok here's what I did. I did decompressed it. It was the only way to edit Robotniks sprite in the Sonic3 rom. Edited and sprite changed using Tile layer pro. Recompressed it using Sonic data compressor. Now all's I need to do is reinsert it back into the rom. That is my problem that I'm having. The original offset for it was 18041E. It should show up as 00 18 04 1E in the rom. How do I find this step by step?

I've tried all I could working with hex editors to reinsert compressed art back into a rom. It never seems to load up. I've like given up on this. The best thing to do would be to decompress the entire rom, work on it in tile layer pro, and then re-compress it again. Is there any program that enables me to accomplish this?

Actually no. I'm working on a genesis rom .bin file.

Use TMNT2 rom. It should work for all versions. I mainly use the [U!] version. meaning, US version. I see no reason why it shouldn't work. Can't be my ips patch and palette file.

Originally posted by asdf I've always tested out my ips patches on other versions of the rom that I'm testing it on before I distribute it out to the public. If infact he is using SNESTool to patch it, then that might be the problem after all. I always use the ips patch tool "ipsXP". |

I'm using the emulators zsnes & snes9x and still they both do nothing. The program that I'm using to apply ips patches is ipsxp. I really want to play the games The Ninji Saga & Panic in the mushroom kingdom. What is my problem?

No. It still does nothing for me. It it appears that I do not have auto patching. If I do, then I have no idea why it does not show up.

You were right. I just didn't have the correct size of the rom. Plus it was not clean. Problems solved. It works now. |
