Well, Xeo, your problem here lies in the fact that you're saying their name wrong.

Enix Square has definitely overdone the Final Fantasy Remake angle to the point where it's definitely milked the cow for all it's worth, but what enrages me is what I've recently heard.

The port of Final Fantasy Tactics that's coming to PSP soon in Japan (though unannounced in North America) will apparently have story elements in it that tie into Final Fantasy 12.

Since when does that work out? They're not even from the same world. That's a more specific case of Enix Square overdoing remakes to the point where they're desperately grasping for people's money. Years ago, when FF12 was still in development, they announced that yes, it would take place in Ivalice, but that that Ivalice was not connected to the Ivalice in Final Fantasy Tactics, instead drawing a connection to the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance world. Now, in an attempt to sell more copies of the port of Tactics that is coming to the PSP, they're retconning the Tactics story to include characters from FF12, in spite of it being, according to their previous statements, impossible for that to happen.

I've given up on Final Fantasy. Give me more Grandia and Kingdom Hearts.

EDIT: They say you can tell how much of an elitist a gamer is by asking them to name their favorite Final Fantasy game. The lower the number, the more elitist they are.

Mine's IV.

Mine's I. What do I win?
The party system adds an extreme amount of replay value, the monsters all happen to be individual creatures who must be treated differently rather than the different-looking sword fodder found in too many RPGs, and the battles actually reward strategy and knowledge unlike the hold-a-button-a-thons we get nowadays. Sure, it's buggy and inbalanced as all hell, but knowledge of this only adds some more stuff to to the gameplay that must be considered if you're attempting to screw around with the game a bit.
Hard to explain, really, but the game just feels so complete, and the focus on pure gameplay is a delight. And as I sais, the class system adds so much.

But eh, Dragon Quest is a far better series anyway.

Well -- Er... Mine's FINAL FANTASY ZERO! SO THERE! Yeah, I'm cool.

Actually, I like FF a lot. You're absolutely right, actually having to think my way through battles was a refreshing change of pace from the more recent games. It's just that the tactical part kinda only works until about halfway through the game. At that point, if you do the class change quest, everyone just gets so strong, even white mages, that you really have nothing to worry about for more or less the rest of the game. That was one of the only problems I had with the first FF. It's also more or less the reason why I like FF4 and even FF9. A fighter's a fighter, a mage is a mage, and you can't just run through every battle holding the A button down. Though, 9 did suffer from that a little, late-game...

Alastor, you don't do the pointing the gun thing very well.

I'm gonna tempclose this, so that everyone can cool off. Kyouji, Adamant, and X, take it to IRC if you really want to discuss it. No last words, and yes, X, I know I'm talking upwards here, but there are better ways that this could be handled, and this is supposed to be a discussion about the Wii, not the PS3.

There isn't much in the way of a community college here in RI... Depending on where you go, you're either going to 13th grade, or you're going to what would be more accurately termed as a college prep school.

While our main Community College is an excellent place for applied learning degrees such as graphics and business, it has some weaknesses in the areas of sciences and some forms of higher-level education. It's a school to go to to get a job, as opposed to a school to go to to get a degree. From my understanding, many Community Colleges are like that, and not all CC students transfer to higher education facilities.

Me, I just started off direct with University. I don't regret it, my grades in high school gave me a full scholarship as long as I can keep my GPA up. You might want to start thinking about something for a post-University form of education, if you want to pursue a degree higher than a Bachelor's, like a Master's or a Doctorate.

Well darn it Anya, I was gonna make this thread...

I love it so far. Got it on preorder at EB, complete with the special stylus, handstrap, and screen cleaner that the preorder kiddies get. All I really wanted was the strap, but the rest is a nice deal anyway. I'm impressed with some parts of the new soundtrack, but other parts leave me very much longing for the original.

I always enjoyed the music of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney the most, as it really helped me get into the game. I felt the pressure and the cooling sense of power that wells inside you when you finally corner a suspect, and the music only amplified that feeling. It's a shame that it was so altered for the second game in the series.

However, having only played through the entire first case, I know I have a long way to go with this game, especially if the effort required to solve it is any indication as to what I'm in for...

Final Fantasy Tactics, much like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, is not a Final Fantasy Game.

It's a "Let's try something new and hope to Odin that it works but just in case let's put the Final Fantasy name on it to familiarize audiences".

That said, Final Fantasy Tactics is far and away the best game in the entire run of games Square has made, and I will say that with confidence in my opinion.

Other than Tactics, the only ones I really liked were IV, VII, and IX. I just plain couldn't get into VI, no matter how I tried (and believe me, I tried). IV was my favorite after Tactics, I loved its classic style, and unlike any of the other FF games, it was the only one I felt the need to play through several times before putting it down at last.

VII is just cool. I don't care what you people say about fanboys or fangirls or cloud gay sephiroth slash fiction, there really really was something cool, back in 1997, about a guy wielding a sword that was bigger than him while summoning huge monsters with flashy visual effects and a confusing plot that left a large amount to the imagination. VII started that entire craze, created the modern "generic RPG" cliche, and above that really was a good, solid game with characters you grew interested in and wanted to learn more about. It is a good game. It is overrated now, and there is no reason to freak out over it, but Final Fantasy VII is definitely a good game.

I liked IX because it reminded me of IV. After VII and VIII (ugh), two games where characters were easily customizable and everyone could become whatever they wanted to with the right Materia, it was nice to see a game where a fighter was a fighter, a mage was a mage, and thieves sucked for everything but running the hell away, just like the balance of power in the world dictated. The characters and story were a little meh, but the game was clearly much more lighthearted and whimsical than the previous several FF games, which were dark, depressing, and sterile. FFIX was a storybook tale, and it at least deserves some accolade for showing that Square still knew how to make classical RPGs that weren't set in a futuristic wasteland.

I could write a Bachelor-level thesis about how much I hate FFVIII, though...

That said, FF will never really hold a candle to serieses like Chrono, Breath of Fire, Suikoden, or even Kingdom Hearts, if you wanna call that an RPG. Breath of Fire III was excellent, with fun gameplay and characters that you really liked watching interact. Suikoden I, II, and III were excellent tales of political intrigue and the gradual unraveling of the world around the characters, as the gamer realizes that yes, in fact, this is really only one small country inside of a much larger world that is struggling around it.

And of course, I believe Earthbound speaks for itself...

Earthbound

Play it. Just play it. Don't ask questions, take everything you see at face value, sit down, put aside about 20-40 hours, and play it.

And whatever you do, don't attack the Trillionage Sprout when you're mushroomated.
