Any games I want I buy, any fun I could have I have on my own, and my computer doesn't really need any upgrades at the immediate moment (might wanna invest in a few later on though...).

Now, what I'm more concerned with is what to get everyone else. I have Dracoon's gift taken care of (don't tell him I'm getting him something, shhh), my little sister's gift, and my mom and stepdad... But I need to get my older sister something and my father something, too. Ideas, people. 21 and 51, respective ages. What're their wishlists this year?

You never struck me as the vindicated type, J. What good will citing her dishonesty do? I can't see her taking any more emotional damage than she already has, especially if she felt no remorse in splitting with you.

Still, I gotcha there. I got screwed over recently, myself. Fun stuff, but it's awwwwwwwwwright. Get yourself a blind date or something. You hold a lot of cards, but the paramount suit here is "available". Shake that studmuffin and show 'em what for and such.

Grey: "So, I completely missed that entire exchange. Was that the thing that came out of all that wreckage I caused?"

Grey pushed his DS back into his vest as he strode up to the group with a can of soda in his free hand. He stared blankly at Kirby before following along in file.

"Why're we going after him? He doesn't seem so bad a guy, and the town's already safe... The last thing we need is another set of enemies."

Grey's tone took on a griping nature as he trundled, but with the soda keeping his brain sugared, he seemed sedate for the time being.

Zidane.

Gamecubes can survive being dropped out a two-story window onto the ground below. And even the DS Lite is more of a tank than the PSP will ever be.

Experience is a good teacher, not a kind one.

Now, I am particularly angered at your comment about fanboyism and graphics. You're suggesting that people will more often flock to a game that has impressive graphics and sound, as opposed to excellent gameplay.

The issue here is that, well, you're right and that's what makes me mad. I hate to see people buy copies of The Cheetah Girls and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody: Tipton Trouble, yes, but at the same time it grinds my gears even more to see people pass up games like Shadow of the Collossus (a very visually impressive game that also had the benefit of being AWESOME) and God of War in favor of pretty shit like Pimp My Ride and Tom Clancy's Vegas.

The Wii I can admire. I can enjoy its presence in my bedroom because of things like the Virtual Console and Wii Sports. I have yet to get bored with Wii bowling, and any opportunity to play Gunstar Heroes again in its complete, full, pristine, perfect, colorful glory is beyond awesome, even if the graphics are only sprites instead of ultra-realistic rendered models. Now, I'm not trying to be "old school" or "elitist" here, the fact of the matter is that some old games are FUN. Some old games are absolute crap, crappier than the crappiest crap that could ever be crapped out of a crappy game crapper's crapper, but that applies to the modern day, too. There's always gonna be games that look pretty but play like a cow on skates. If people don't wanna side with the fanboy, then they're the ones losing out...

The fanboy's always gonna be able to play Gears of War, but the same may not apply to someone who just looks at an old game and thinks "Oh, that's not very pretty at all...".

Why all the hate for VII? I thought it was pretty good. Second Megaman game I ever played, and the one that made me love the entire series, too (first ever was X).

Now, if you want a bad game, take a look at High Max... yuck.

I rather like the fact that II garners so much respect from OC Remix, but I've got to overall go with III as more a favorite, even if I find myself rocking out to Wily's Mosh Pit more than any other OCR I have.

But then again, my absolute favorite will always be the Legends games...

Grey: "Wait, Kirb. What the hell is wrong with you?"

Grey stood in front of Kirby's path and blocked his way. He had had enough of it at this point...

"Some chick with a sword? I dunno if you were paying attention or not, but we kicked that particular chick's buddies' asses three and four times up and down the street about a week and a half ago! You're going about this acting like a weakened, cursed furry version of yourself who has an incompetent ninja under his wing is some kind of grand villain that's going to become an epic hinderance for us at a vital point in our quest later on!"

He rubbed his eyes with his forefinger and thumb, pushing his glasses out of the way exasperatedly.

"That may be how things work in RPGs and comic books and stuff, but this is life we're talking about here. You've got some more important goals to consider right now!"

Pants! I finally got some pants! Oh god they're so comfortable and I am wearing them now and I am a blissful, happy little boy. Of course, it's kinda a tradition for me to wear the clothes I get on christmas morning to my family gatherings.

I also got the WoW trading card game starter set (thereby proving my parents know just how much of a nerd I am), some screeching flying monkeys, the new Super Robot Wars game (thanks Phil ), and a couple extra bucks to buy some more pants with (also some new shoes, I could totally use them...).

From my dad, though, I got something pretty unexpected. He gave me a check. A big check, for that matter... One to buy a laptop with. Now, this is something I'm definitely going to need in coming years, it'll be nice to be able to port my work around, especially now that I have a new job that actually requires its use. I'm glad, but at the same time, I do feel bad. I always hate that people spend money on me, especially when I don't make nearly as much to spend in return. Has anyone ever gotten that feeling? Christmas makes me guilty... As much as I know that it's about the spirit and the giving and the Jesus, I can't help but wish I could give more in return.

That said, what've you guys given your families? I got my little sister a copy of Pokemon Ranger, my dad a huge URI sweatshirt, and my mom and stepdad a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant (as well as the assurance that I'll keep an eye on my little sister while they go out). My older sister and I are just gonna take each other to dinner and pay for each others' bills...

OOC: Just a short...

Everyone was, of course, off with their families for the holidays. Grey usually went to visit relatives, if he had any. Kirbynite had his own family, Melvin had... robots, even JD was occupied for the holidays. They were all opening gifts, stuffing themselves with treats, playing with toys and games, and frolicking in the newfallen snow outside.

But there was one person who sat alone on Christmas day, staring out his window at the world outside. There was never any snow in the desert...

A shack in the middle of a barren wasteland lay as the current home of a nomadic gentleman who refused to leave the peace and isolation of the harsh environs. His friends gone, his family long since a memory, Johnathan sat utterly alone in the midst of the Gobi sands. He had cooked a snake in the sun, and feasted on that for the time being, chopping its meager meat upon a table made from smoothly-cut stone, saving it from the same fate as its sandy bretheren. The ice Johnathan conjured from the vapor in the air barely held its form for minutes before melting in the desert heat, but Johnathan made do. At least there was plenty of water. He pulled his sleeveless coat closer to himself. Better to stay covered than to have the sun shine on you out here.

He missed the cold of civilization, he missed his studies, and even now he missed his books. Very few were scrounged from the wreckage of his and Grey's vessel, and Johnathan had read them all many times in the ensuing months. Now it was Christmas, and Johnathan would have liked nothing more than a gift of text, but alas did the spirit remain gone.

Johnathan chewed thoughtfully on a piece of meat, speared delicately with a fork of pure ice that began to melt in his hands even as he tasted its damp edge. He exhaled a quick breath that shimmered in the heat before dissolving, its water reabsorbed into Johnathan's body. He contemplated doing something that he knew he shouldn't do... Something that'd make a very big mess when it was finished. But he had the power, and he had the want.

Yes. It was time for things to cool down around here. He finished eating, cleaned his plate, and stood. Reaching into his coat, he pulled out a small pyramid-like object, a gift from long ago. Johnathan turned towards his window and expressionlessly stared out at the sand before him. This would work.

He left the sanctity of the shack and opened the rickety front door. The heat from outside hit him like a punch in the stomach, and he felt dizzier just from exposure. Nevertheless, he retained his concentration, taking the pyramid in his hand and clasping a fist around it. It was tiny, and its points felt sharp in his closed hand. He raised the hand to the sky, and stared straight into the sun, his spectacles going dark to protect his eyes.

Johnathan squinted slightly and began to concentrate. The sun beat down on his face as if to tell him he was making a mistake, to urge him to return to his cabin and live out the holiday without event. Johnathan's angry reply was unmistakable: He would persevere. The sun beat harder, begging him to stop, but already the clouds had begun to swirl. Johnathan felt his anger growing, and used it against the environment around him.

Soon the sky had darkened and greyed with the low-formed clouds that hung above Johnathan's head. He felt his surroundings fall in temperature as the sun bcame blocked by their vaporous fury. The jungle to the south wouldn't need all that moisture for a few hours, at least...

There was a roll of thunder from the skies, and Johnathan felt more and more alert as the desert around him fell to freezing temperatures. This was it!

The skies erupted, the clouds swirled, and there was a flash of lightning that would make a film special effects crew shudder in fear. All around Johnathan, cold winds blew that sifted and swished the sand around him into a furious storm. It whipped at him, a final assault from the desperate desert to maintain its sanctity. Toads burrowed into the ground, and snakes and rabbits retreated into their homes, never knowing this degree of frozen horror that had beset them. There was one final, loud rumble...

...And a gentle snowfall began to overtake the sandy desert. It fell in flakes tiny and quaint, whitening the sun-bleached sand in ways it had never before experienced. Soon there was a fine blanket of snow on the ground, caking itself around Johnathan's feet and filling his brimless hat with fractals. Johnathan surveyed his surroundings. It was only a two or three square mile effect, but it was certainly enough for him. He then did something he had not done in a very long time, indeed since he had arrived in this hellhole.

He smiled. He smiled, and as he walked back into his cabin to mix himself a cup of hot chocolate, he uttered to nobody in particular something he never thought he'd be able to say again.

Johnathan: "Merry Christmas..."

Tommy: I'd totally be down with that, you know. My son? Gay? Fine by me.

Question for you, though: How did your parents react?

And yeah, Ziff. Gramma'd be dead. Prolly from a heart attack or the knowledge that her bloodline would end with her grandson's house.

EDIT: Oh, right! I'd ask him if he has a boyfriend, too... and if he does, why he didn't bring him.
