The cardboard box stepped out of the shadows of the Crystal Forest's underbrush and disappearing to reveal a frail old man... How the hell did he keep popping up like that? Sigmund stood up and placed himself into view, lookin rather unimpressive, as far as stealth goes. He definitely didn't blend in. And yet, somehow everyone in the area would probably note that if he were to actually crouch down and hide, they probably wouldn't see him. Active camouflage, Sigmund liked to call it. "Looks like I missed all the action. I'd call that a successful mission, considerin' you kids and yer reckless magic." He pointed a finger straight at Sky. The old man's gaze was suddenly noticeable through his mess of wrinkles and extremely striking... "You! I don't know what the 'ell ya think yer doin', but if ya want to keep yerselves on the la-li-lu-le-lowdown, yed better tone down the Ome use! Like it or not, everything yer incineratin' gives off a sickening magical ping to any recepters 100 'iles around even when yer NOT tryin' ta use the Ome! I don't know about you, but I certinly don't want no witch-hunters lookin' to suck ya dry of yer Omes, 'cause anyone in here who's GOT an Ome is sure to get their head off'd the moment they get spotted! Git yer gloves back on 'n use some sense, 'n be glad I'm stickin' me neck out fer ya this time, 'cause it ain't no skin off my nose if you ruddy Ome users git yer heads lifted!" He squatted down and squinted his wrinkly little eyes at Lily. They locked gazes for a couple of seconds, and suddenly, quick as a shot, the old man cuffed Lily on the back of the head, growling softly. He whispered, so that almost nobody could hear him. The accent was gone... "You, little girl... You have got a lot of spunk, telling me up like that. Considering how long I've got left I can tell you I'm nowhere near as old as you say I am. Best you learn this. Maybe then I'll show you a thing or two about real treasure." He stood up and produced his walking cane. There wasn't much need for disguise in a place like this... He prefered instead to be ready to defend himself. |

Johnathan continued to float into the air, and summoned a sheet of ice beneath his feet, which he used to get away from Star and towards the kidnapping. The sand was beginning to get muddier and muddier, and soon the rain accumulated to an inch or two of actual flooding in the lower parts of the desert. Johnathan hit the ground fast, and skidded along on his ice platform, anchoring his feet to it by encasing them in a block of ice, as well. "I hope this works..." |

Just the moment of elation you get in the space between watching the gargantuan beasts fall and the shadowy tentacle rape that scares the shit out of you afterwards is enough to make this game awesome. That, and the horse. The horse, people. He is by far the greatest video game character of our generation. Beat the game once and you'll see why. |

Johnathan hit the ground running, gaining a significant advantage over everything that was dashing through the mud -- he was right on top of it. Hikari was only about ten yards ahead...

Johnathan stood on top of the mud as a frozen patch of ground lifted him up and above the lightning. At this point, he had actually stopped paying attention to the danger, instead concentrating on the amazing jumping Kidnapper... Johnathan: "Is that Roc's Feather...?" Several seconds later, the downpour died down, and Johnathan held his hand out and wafted it upward. The water in the sand rose out of the ground and back into the air, dispersing as humid vapor. The sand itself was almost as dry as it was before the storm. At least, all of the sand from about three miles around. He dropped his section of ground back down, and it immediately began to melt in the restored desert sun. For good measure, he snapped his fingers and Hikari's clothes were freshly dried. Johnathan preferred to stay wet. "Miss Hikari, please forgive me. But I believe we have a much more important matter at hand: That fellow has what could possibly be the feather of the Roc! As is akin to the Roc's high-altitude flight, the Roc's Feather allows its user to reach extreme altitudes with a single leap! That kidnapper is going to get away with Mitra much easier than I previously suspected if we keep after him while he has one of those!" |

That means you're competing with the infinite scope of individual human thought multiplied times the factor of randomness that exists in a person's head times the infinite amount of knowledge that has yet to be uncovered times the infinite depths of reason itself. There is no upper cap to knowledge because knowledge expands at the same speed that the universe expands, which is to say the fastest speed that there is.
