Grey: "THE SomerZ? Wow, a living legend. He even plays with subtitles like real men do."

Grey adjusted his glasses as the words flashed up on his lenses. He had popped up behind Kirbynite during the commotion and tried to get himself in on some of this action.

"Looks like someone slammed you in the face with a teleprompter, though. You might wanna fix that before some kids come over."

Destiny Smasher: No, that's just it: I'm trying to say not to follow your heart here. Seriously. Be realistic. Give yourself, if you really want to, someone to spend time with. Sure, tell her how you feel, just don't get so involved so early. It's ok to call it a relationship or whathaveyou, just you're still too young to be all SERIOUS BUSINESS with the fact that you've found somebody. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that you need to walk the line. Find the center and stick to it.

And YES, that does mean getting closer to her as a friend. It does NOT mean go up to her and tell her you've fallen madly for her. It means grow together and then before you even realize it, you will actually be a couple and you won't have even spent any effort deciding if you're a couple or not.

Tomato: You're welcome.

Thoughtless: In a way. Part of it was the "Where is Schwa" campaign. Another part was my sudden infatuation with Metal Gear Solid and my desire to steal JDavis' old layout. But that didn't go over well, it was "lame". I was thinking about commissioning someone to make me a Trigun layout, actually... I'm no good with CSS myself.

Iori: Vash and Wolfwood are nowhere near as sexy as you. And wouldn't the cat scare a certain Mouse...?

Anyone remember the Flapper generation of the 20s? A bunch of kids who had the financial backing from a hard-working previous generation. They were outspoken, took life to the limit, lived lavishly and got bitched at by the elders for not working as hard as they did...

...And were completely fucked when the Great Depression hit.

What does this have to do with right now?

I dunno, you tell me. I'm just figuring I'm seeing a lot of college students drinking and partying, backpacking across europe, buying nice cars, and going to nightclubs on Thursdays.

A crotchety old voice rang out...

???: "Ohhh, I believe they're quite real, sonny."

There was no way you could determine his exact age. The best way to describe it would just be "older than you, your mom, and your dad combined". His face was grizzled and wrinkled to the point where it'd be hard to tell whether he was blinking his eyes or having a seizure. His eyebrows were fuzzy white, his crown was bald, and what was left of his hair was a snowy white color. All in all, you kinda got the feeling looking at him that a light breeze was probably going to undo him.

Regardless, the old monk's body was covered (protected from said wind, I guess) by a long brown robe which shuffled against his sandaled feet as he strode slowly over to the little girl and the soaked man. He hacked and coughed in time with his steps as the tip of a wooden cane tapped the ground with each press of his left leg.

"I've been in the business for a good, loooooong time. There's gold in them thar hills! Well, not gold, but certainly a lot of goodies for anyone intrepid enough to go through. Or at least crazy enough. Why, there was this one long story I could tell about an underground gas main, a furbolg, and a fried egg and cheese sandwich..."

Taking on the traditional NPC fashion, the old man didn't even bother to introduce himself as he began his ramblings...

Grey: "Hrm... I know... Alastor's got the right idea. I say that in between moves, we all take a rest, then keep going. Take a rest, keep going, until we've managed to uncover all of the squares. Chances are, we're gonna uncover some enemies here and there and we DON'T want any fatalities right now, not when we've gotten this far. I doubt we're gonna find a systematic pattern... Other than that there's a fairly decent chance, just because dungeons work this way, that the square with the button isn't going to be in the row that Teddylot was in again. This is just speculation, but I bet that Square 15 is a trap and the button is in one of the other three squares."

Grey paces around in a circle for a few moments, then sits down to rest a la Kyouji.

"Everyone, rest this round. Possibly next round too, if you're thinking you're too low on HP to get anywhere. We have to take this slowly..."

There was a loud blast of excess sonic noise as the stream collided with the ground, with Miller, and kicked up a mushroom cloud of tar, dust, and smoke...

...And Miller was gone. Where? It was impossible to tell. Maybe he had been blown to pieces by Loki's attack. Maybe he had run away. Maybe he was right about to attack Loki!

A few seconds of silence after Loki's attack proved that thesis wrong.

Whatever the case was, Miller had been there long enough to finish what he was supposed to do. New allies were present, and his presence was no longer required. We can focus on someone else's story now. If he's not dead, he'll be back. Sometime or another.

---------------

Evan shifted left and right, his massive bulk inexplicably moving like a butterfly in the meadow of the battlefield. As all sound from the outside was cut off, he could only see Shen's pleas as he glanced sidelong, keeping his distance from the little girl and absorbing the Chaos energy back into his Emerald shard. The moment he saw the mysterious stranger ricochet off of the little girl's barrier, Evan knew he had finally gotten his cavalry and steeled himself to keep fighting until his new ally was in a position to help him beat this freak of childish nature. He attempted again to close into melee range, this time mixing up his attacks.

The little girl wouldn't know what hit her if he didn't let her know where he was coming from...

With this line of logic, Evan rushed her again, this time coming from several angles at once. He had to feel her out, understand where her agility would lead her. It was matching his easily, and Evan knew he was pretty fast. There was only one real explanation, and that was that she was toying with him. He launched a beefy fist from the girl's left before circling around to deliver a hard soccer kick upward, assuming she'd try, rather than block his attack, to dodge it again.

He had backed up against that barrier once before... It burned him just to be close to it, trying to punch his way through would be useless. It really was up to whomever that person was to break it. Until then, he'd do his best to defend Shen.

Kalar leapt the gap with ease and shook Sky's hand. It was very cold.

Kalar: "Hi, I don't know you. In another universe I probably still wouldn't. I've been playing Groundhog Day with this world for about three months now, and these guys came by and finally did something worth mentioning about a day and a half ago. My name's Kalar, I like alienating people and occasionally snapping the necks of ninjas. Don't mind my clothing, it's perfectly drafty."

He fingered a frayed hole in the pinstripes and shook his head a few times. It looked like he hadn't slept for weeks. Those same tired eyes lifted to the sky before anyone else could waste the group's time with introductions.

"I'm guessing you've also probably gotten used to that thing. Hope you brought a time machine or something. Check it out."

He pointed up through the clouds at the really, really creepy looking demonic moon that was threatening to flatten the world in a few short hours. It grinned and edged a bit closer.

"Since this is the 13th time I've done this, and you haven't appeared in the other 12, I'm guessing you're here for a reason, so let's continue onward and we'll explain whatever it is they need to tell you about on the way."

Kalar was hastier than usual, and continued dragging his compatriots towards the cliffs.

"You might not wanna forget Melvin, either..."

Kalar: "How'd you know I've been going back in time for three days? That's the limitation on my own personal ability to shift, in any case. These guys, I've got no clue, the pink one just blew his horn one day and suddenly bam, we were back where they started and I got scared. I think it's got something to do with where they entered the universe. I certainly don't remember them, anyway."

He prods Melvin.

Grey pops out of his discotastic meditative state and takes off his headphones, which have been blasting The Bee-Gees as Emptyeye's input showed up on his closed captioning.

Grey: "Yes, we'd do best to just rest up and try to form a sort of eliminative process for finding the button. At least this way, there's a higher chance of only two people losing HP as opposed to three, like last time."

Downloaded it off the main site and extracted it.

It's got a good play control scheme, but I'm still sorta confused as to how the directions go. I've got to configure my controller for it to work.

The graphics are all completely hand-drawn... Which means that it takes a juggernaut of a computer to run it. I get 60 fps on Ragnarok Battle Offline on this machine, and SCWU gives me a minimal framerate loss. This is NOT for your average user.

The combo system works a lot like the super meter in the Marvel Vs. Capcom games, you build up to three levels and can execute super combos once you have a full bar. The action itself is very quick, there's air dashes and double jumps a la Guilty Gear (so naturally I'm having fun), but not much for a system of blocks, traps, or getaways. Basically, you hold back and you're impervious. Also, movement along the ground is kinda slow, and the fighting is clearly meant to be stylized. Some of the moves are a little too short-range for my tastes, but I haven't seen them all yet.

All in all, for a nonprofessionally made game, it's very fun. I'm liking it so far.
