OK; I'll let this season run for a little longer and see what happens. Maybe I'll paste the RAM into that spreadsheet so you can have a complete listing of everyone's stats.

Then I'll work on my own team, sign some players, make some trades, and look at the game from that angle.

Two more things I thought of:

* You kept most of the default colors for the player-created teams' uniforms. (I did too, I admit.) How about some more variety there?

" Also, you kept my 'super team code' questions intact -- don't you want to add your own twist to that?

It would have been great if the game kept more stats, but if you've ever played the NES Baseball Simulator 1.000, you'll know why -- it would slow down the simulator to the point where you almost couldn't run a season at all.

Of course, in these days of speed-throttle-able emulators, this problem is solved, but in making Baseball Stars, they (1) didn't keep several important stats and fudged the figuring on others (for example, a pitcher gets a full inning pitched as long as he appears at any point in an inning), plus (2) cut lots of corners when simulating games (no substitutions, simulating numbers only with no actual pitching and hitting, etc.).

Any other readers out there who could give us some hints on ASM?

I've been able to jump right into work on many baseball games because of the common methods of keeping data on players and colors and the like. If someone could figure out how to influence ball flight and stamina in one game we could probably generalize it to many games.

The Buzzy Beetle in shot 2 blends in perfectly with the background; how about making him black?

I'm very much looking forward to these aesthetic hacks no matter which way you end up going.

If you do something like this for the upcoming FFVI GBA version, I might just play that instead of the "regular" edition.

Forte, if it's any consolation, I'm kaving the same problem you're having, only I'm using SNES9x 1.42 and 1.39. No idea why this is happening -- the ROM is fine if I'm playing regular Super Metroid.

Dr. Death, my simulated league is at about 50 games per team; I'll put together a spreadsheet with full stats and post it.

Some more generic comments:

* All the pitchers need better curves and drops, or power hitters like Pujols, like the Yankees and Mets teams, and D. Lee, need to be weaker. Nobody can get anyone out; there are only four pitchers with ERAs under 4.00.

* St. Louis and San Francisco in particular could use some pitching help.

Should I finish this season or post it halfway through?

OK, let me start making one. I hesitate to look at the ERAs! Seriously, Chicago gives up so many home runs that it's ridiculous. Pump up their pitching by a few points and take some away from Murton and Barrett, who are over-performing by a lot.

(Edit: Spreadsheet is done but someone has to post before I can post it, since I can't edit an attachment into a post. Standings, though, are like this

The teams are: 1. Cubs, 2. Yankees, 3. Cardinals, 4. Giants, 5. A's, 6. Mets.

Standings as of 70-71 games played:

Mets 48-22 ---
Yankees 47-23 1.0
Cubs 39-32 9.5
Giants 28-42 20.0
Cards 27-44 21.5
A's 22-48 26.0

(Edit II: Going to run a few more games and then post that spreadsheet instead. DD, are you changing any of the graphics? Of course I don't mind you using my title screen, but a new one of your own making would really help your hack stand out.)

OK, here's the original (14 games against each opponent) sheet; there aren't enough additional games to justify making a new one.

But for your info, since then, the Mets and Yankees have continued to dominate.

The Cubs continue to put Bynum in for Lee and the Yanks put Andy P in for A-Rod.

Yanks and Mets tied; Cubs 11 games back, the rest 20 games back or more.

Pujols has 71 HR in 76 games; Delgado 67, Sheffield 63.

Bonds 124 RBI, Pujols 121, Delgado 116, Lee 109.

Farnsworth 2.88 ERA; Rivera, Victor Z., Sanchez, Wanger, Cain, Looper are next.

Carlos Zambrano has 20 wins; Randy Johnson 17, Pedro and Glavine 14.

Wagner 12 Sv, Dempster 8, Street and Sanchez 7.

I posted it above, but I should've been clearer about that.

The teams are: 1. Cubs, 2. Yankees, 3. Cardinals, 4. Giants, 5. A's, 6. Mets.

Playing your updated hack and it's great!

I liked that you moved the Death logo team to the custom group, and the custom uniform colors look nice, particularly that dark gray one; the shading really stands out on that.

Mets look a little better this time around, too. And I like the team-creation questions! (First one's hard to format, I admit...)

Your questions are indeed a bit easier than mine (though the first one is hard to format). Mine are for the heavy history buffs.

Excess offense aside, I really like this hack -- when I played it as a kid we always put MLB teams in.

Found one more tiny glitch -- it looks like you tried to edit the capital J in the small font; it's shifted one pixel to the right. Make a team whose name starts with J and look at the standings.

Looking forward to it, Interdepth! I love the idea of GBA hacking because you can (relatively easily) play these games on your handheld machine just like the commercial efforts. A new Metroid game, playable while riding the subway, would be the dog's bollocks!

I agree with Skreename; I was thinking, "why would you only want to cast Death on people at Level 15...?"

Getting those extra letters and "real" spell names is nice; FF8-style Protect and Confuse sound much better than Safe and Muddle (not that those two don't have their charm, come to think of it...).

Any reason Rasp became Raspil? I know the original had "rasupiru", but I could have sworn that I once read that the "ru" was stuck on there to make it a verb. (In a Japanese magazine, maybe? Can't remember.)

Was "Bio" originally "Virus"?

As for the "Level" spells, they've been changed to "Lv. xxxxxx" since reading it was kind of difficult.

That's a good idea; much easier to read.

Bring on those screenshots and extras; this is looking like a lot of fun!

I really do like this progress!

Any chance of changing the "Cursed Ring equipped by..." to something containing "can be equipped by" or "equippable (?) by", which is more accurate? The existing text sort of implies that all 14 characters actually are equipping that item right now.

Embarrassing truth which I feel compelled to mention:

I forgot that you could run without special boots in Super Metroid.

(Hey, it's been over a decade!)

Consequently, I found the escape from Ceres space station to be quite a challenge. On my fifth attempt, I finally got out of there with 0'00"14 remaining. I suppose a truly perfect run (er, walk) could get it done with a fuill second left, but that was quite difficult and left me wondering how hard the rest of the hack would be.

Fortunately I remembered about dashing when exploring Crateria!

That sounds pretty good, Dragonsbrethren. I know Ted Woolsey was really limited by the length of text (he had to write "3" instead of "three" in the original), so these additions should really flesh things out. He still did a great job with what he had.

Have you fixed the infamous 'frightful dragon' and 'monopoly on the treasure under the stairs' mistakes? Those were the only two tings Ted was genuinely wrong on, IIRC.
