Is that the same variable width font as in the Bahamut Lagoon translation? That's really well done.

One thing I'd like to do is hack the traditional FF4 battle damage numerals into the game and replace those silly ones they're using.

Someone at Zophar's (don't have a link; read it on Gamefaqs) hacked the main game font so that it uses the better-proportioned one that Dawn of Souls used. There are a few places where text spills out of the windows, though.

This game is very much a post of the Wonderswan version and not a from-the-ground-up remake. That's the only reason I can think of for keeping that difficult-to-read set of numerals in there.

BGNG, long time no talk (just re-registered for this forum) and congratulations on all this editor progress!

Your Expansion Kit is waiting for you, so keep saving up that money!

Course editing for Maximum Velocity is looking impossible to make progress on -- there just aren't enough panels that match up well with other panels -- so I just started fooling around with Climax with the intention of replacing most of the 256 Edit panels with more interesting panels. I'll get a thread started if I make any more progress.

Dragonsbrethren, you wouldn't happen to know where the fonts are stored (and, more importantly, in what format), would you?

I was hoping to whip up a small patch which would replace the font used for the damage numbers in battles with the one that was in the SNES original.

I have Japanese Windows XP and I get runtime error 339 when I try to open it. (It installed without problems.)

What are "vbalIml6.ocx" and its dependencies? They are not correctly registered. Evidently.

(And if I do get this running, and Kpan can't, I'd be happy to help with a Japanese translation.)

I've got the ROM open now (with Tile Molester, in 2bpp reverse-order linear format), and that is indeed a mess.

Perhaps the battle damage numbers are battle sprites and not a font? I've found some map sprites but none for battle. Hopefully they're not compressed.

(Edit: In the Japanese ROM, similar data is found around 0x3F45D0 and after. There are huge morasses of garbled kanji but no battle damage numbers.)

That's a nice-looking heart; might look better with a burgundy color.

(And if Samus can pull off the win with only 13 points of energy, wow...)

I particularly like the font you made for the life and missile totals. The '7' is delightfully retro-future.

Rumors have it that the Cubs and Orioles might trade Mark Prior for Miguel Tejada. Unless Prior has definite plans to leave Chicago when he becomes eligible, I woundn't do this if I were the Cubs. Wasn't there a cloud of suspicion about Tejada's vitamin B-12 supplements?

While we're on the subject of club football, may I mention that Kyoto Purple Sanga just got back to Japan's top division (J1)? Wouldn't mind seeing them finally start winning on a regular basis.

Shawshank is my all time favorite movie, in any genre, and people I know from all over the world agree. Morgan Freeman is awesome (and Tim Robbins thoroughly redeems himself for his terrible pitching antics in 'Bull Durham' ^^.

If you haven't seen this, see it. It will stay with you for the rest of your days.

Anyone ever mess around with the third Baseball Simulator 1.000 sequel? It's a really nice-looking game, and I want to translate it, but many of the graphics, and more importantly, fonts are compressed and I can't do anything with it. This is one of the best SNES baseball games and deserves to be translated/hacked.

All of Anikichi's Japanese hacks of SMW, with the exception of that one ridiculously hard one which requires a save state every few seconds (Luigi's Adventure?). These need to become better known.

I'll guess "ITEMS".

My God, that is fantastic.

How will the users actually create the courses? It would be nice to be able to simply type in numbers for coordinates, as one of the Expansion Kit's failings is that it can be a hassle to repeatedly select points, move from menu to menu, and adjust things.

I would love to work on this! The "come and go" part is good as sometimes I have plenty of time to do this stuff and other times I'm too busy.

One very important question: what kind of limits will there be on text length? Should we retranslators stick to the number of bytes in the original? I have no idea what kind of multi-character strings are being used in the English CT. Could all those bytes devoted to kanji be reassigned to words or parts of words in English so that we could write nice long lines of text?

Second important question: have any decisions been made on the speech styles in different periods? For example, will the ungrammatical baby talk of 65M BC be kept? At the least, all the mistakes in the medieval English used in 600 AD should be cleaned up. It was probably intentional, but this goofiness didn't match up with the somewhat-serious original speech style at all.

And has anyone spoken for any parts already? If not, I'll start with, say, the 600 AD text. If someone's got that, give me 12000 BC.
