Well I'm all for looting, rum and wenches over valor, honor and distinction... so I'm going to go for pirates here.

There's something incredibly whimsical about them. The disregard for all of society's conventional rules that's so damn sexy.

Yesterday I played a show here on Staten Island.. and so did my dad. When my dads band was playing there was an extremely drunk older guy dancing around and he had the biggest boner I had ever seen in my whole life.

I also notice guys in class fixing themselves all the time. Like... all the time. I don't know how you could possibly be horny in statistics... but it happens.

No guys, it's not the pimple complex. Girls do see them... but we just think it's cute/funny. I do at least. Maybe I'm strange.

The bad history marijuana has? ...and that would be?

Keeping McDonald's in bussiness since it's conception? Providing a base market for visine "real tears"? Making the burrito a national sensation?

I don't understand. What horrible history has marijuana had? Maybe someone could clear it up for me.

And what's the chance for such little gain? Do you condone the illegalization of gambling? I don't understand that arguement either. It's my money, my body and my time and I'll spend it my way as long as I'm not seriously injuring others or myself. Marijuana... really doesn't have a great effect on it's users.

And you say "I don't mind what people do in the privacy of their own homes."... Me either. I don't think all the world should go nuts and take to the streets in a giant blunt smoking celebration. I think we should legally be able to smoke it in our own homes, and when we have a bag on us not have to worry about search, seizure and jailtime. Just as you're not allowed to drink on the streets. There'd be like... weed bars as well as alcohol bars. I mean what the big deal here? Is it such a ridiculous thing to consider?

What's the legal difference between being drunk and being high on mary jane? I don't get it. Being drunk is far more dangerous for your health, and society. I'm not saying illegalize it.. because you can drink responsibly.. but you can also smoke responsibly. Example: Don't smoke and drive.

And no hallucinations. Things become enhanced. Food tastes better. Your body feels... strange. But it's no different than drinking. You have more control on mary jane... you never have periods where you black out and don't remember anything, and you'll never smoke yourself to the point of death... ever. You'll never wake up next to some stranger and go "holy explicative".

Just remember that everyone who smokes isn't a degenerate, and certainly not a criminal. They only criminal act I've ever committed would be smoking weed. Does that make me a dangerous criminal who deserves to be in jail? No. I'm still a productive, successful member of society. It's not fair that I could be arrested one day and have my whole future messed up because I smoke every once in a while. It's not right.

The law isn't written about what's "wrong" and what's "right". The law is written in the best interests of society. And I firmly believe that the legalization of marijuana is in the best interests of society.

And all the things I said about how we treat the poor is true. We have a system where the poor stay poor and the rich stay rich and the middle class stays middle class. There is very little oppurtunity for social mobilization. And we treat the poor like crap. It's in the best interests of our society to start treating the poor better, help clean up the ghetto's and provide sensible housing and jobs for the poor. If you don't want to worry about crime, that's how you would go about eliminating it. Eliminate the need to steal. Most European countries, and Canada have realized this and their crime rates are much lower for it.

I used to sit in metal tunnels and scream. It made a crazy echo. I used to pretend I was in space.

When it was raining I used to sing to the sun in hopes that I could change the weather and make the sun come back out. Classic hits such as "Come out to play sun", "I'm bored play with me sun", "I hate rain" and "Play with me sun".

Also my friends and I had "Indian Weddings" in which we'd all wear these crazy masks and turn out the lights, have glowsticks and glow up lightsabers and pretend we were performing some sort of crazy Indian Wedding.

We'd also set up all the glow in the dark lego's in my friends basement and pretend we were "swimming" in the stars.

OH MAN! The best one yet. When we were really into pokemon we'd pretend that there were "evil clone's" of us.. and that we were kind of pokemon superhuman beings who had special powers. My element was earth... we had air, wind, fire, light and rock. I had powers ranging from ivy shoot to earthquake to sharp point leaves that I could throw at people. We'd fight one another to improve our levels and when we were strong enough we'd face our clones.. there were thousands of them but if we weren't strong enough we couldn't face them. Hahah.. I can remember before going to sleep I would pretend there was a protective shield around me... like an earthy garden... so my clone's couldn't get to me in my sleep. They were always around.

I also remember my friend being really into witchcraft. This one time we were in her like shed thing... all sitting around a candle holding hands and trying to communicate with spirits (we were like 7)... and the candle exploded. It was really really strange.

I have a treasure trove of children games. I loved my childhood... it was the best I could've asked for. [=

This poll is flawed. This isn't a yes or no question.

I am neither saddened or proud of it. I have the belief that good and evil do balance out. Even though on the news you only hear of the evils, there is so much good going on in the world it's astonishing. I smile when I hear something good, and shudder when I hear something evil. In the bigger picture though I think that there is too much evil to be proud of the human race as a whole, but too much good to be saddened by the human race.

I'd like to second that none of us are scientists, and therefore cannot judge the current climate situation. We can only listen to the actual scientists who have devoted their whole lives to this study. The people in Antarctica digging up ice from prehistoric times recording CO2 levels are the people we should be listening to. Not politicians, conservative or liberal talk show hosts or underqualified college professors. I now go on to express my opinions on the subject, which I consider neither for nor against the prospect of global warming.

I watched that youtube video that college professor made trying to discredit global warming. Although the video did not complete his argument, what I did see was very weak and raised some questions.

His argument about Libertarians trying to pass environmental legistlation to control people's civil liberties is completely and utterly ridiculous. Why would Libertarians want to control what people do for seemingly no reason? If he offered some sort of sinister motive for this argument, then perhaps it would hold some water. People interested in this supposed crisis simply want to control CO2 emissions to save our environment. The notion that environmental laws are meant to limit people civil liberties is ridiculous and extremely innacurate. I cannot think of one single example of this, and if you can... please share it with me. I can see this hurting some businesses perhaps. They would actually have to be responsible for the harmful emissions they release. Poor babies. (Not just CO2 emissions, which aren't necessarily toxic but naturally occuring. I'm talking about other kinds of toxic harmful pollution as well.)

I think at this point it would prove more profitable for auto companies to switch over to environmentally friendly cars. Many people are aware of the impact they may be having on the environment with their cars, but are unable to change this impact because the technology is still for the most part unavailable or unaffordable for the most of the population. It would create a whole new industry, new jobs, and reduce our dependance on foreign oil. This would decrease American interests in the middle east and probably reduce tensions between America and many mideastern countries.

Even if you don't believe in global warming, you at least have to support an effort to reduce our dependance on foreign oil. It would prove beneficial to American bussiness, foreign policy and perhaps even the environment.

5'6" isn't short for a guy, considering most girls are on the shorter side.

I mean, that is the concern right? That's usually what it boils down to.

Growth stimulants can have some really negative side effects. Kind of dangeresque. Then again, if they were that dangerous I'm sure they wouldn't be readily available. Maybe. I took accutane when I was like 13 or 14 and it worked wonders, I haven't had a pimple since. I took it despite symptoms of increased suicide rates and clinical depression. So I don't know... most of the time symptoms don't occur. Kind of like Russian roulette. Whatever floats your boat.

Posted on 12-10-06 03:29 PM, in Losing most of my friends. Link
I'm sure most people here regard me as some sort of degenerate. Always arguing for the legalization of marijuana, and saying that things are okay in moderation. You'd be surprised to know that I lost most of my friends to drugs or alcohol, because they didn't practice it in moderation and were just in general, completely stereotypical stupid irresponsible teenagers with access to substances.

I still advocate the legalization of marijuana and whatnot though. I believe most kids who use do go through this stupid stage and for the most part learn what moderation is as they grow older. It doesn't mean, however, I'm going to be there for you unconditionally through this idiotic period.

I've honestly always practiced everything in moderation. Once in a while. When I party, not every day... not even exceeding once or twice a month. My main focus is living life to the fullest and doing well in school so I can be successful and productive in the future.

Now that I got that part out of the way. My friends are being complete stupid assholes. I haven't even talked to them in months.

The day I broke contact with most of my friends was when a certain unspeakable act occured. They had all gotten drunk. It was summer and it was really hot outside. They wanted air conditioning but simply did not want to break up and go home separately. Obviously they couldn't go to a public air-conditioned place, or all crash at one of their houses because they were rip-roaring drunk.

So what is their logical conclusion? To break into my friend Chris' house while he was on vacation. They broke all the locks on his back door, and when the door still didn't open they smashed through one of his basement windows and got in that way. Then they proceeded to throw a 3 day long party, not even bothering to clean up at the end of it. They smoked in his house, they drank and left bottles everywhere and a number of things were stolen including his Xbox360, $5,000 worth of sports merchandise, and little things here and there like axe spray and other petty small things. So when Chris came home from vacation with his family... this is the state they found their house in.

And remember, all the people who broke in were his FRIENDS. Some of which he knew since kindergarten.

A few police reports and dropped charges later, they're all mad at Chris for not forgiving them.

These were my friends as well. All of whom I completely cut contact off with after this incident. And before you ask, no I was not there. I wasn't invited. They knew I would flip out and probably call the cops if I found out.

After this happened I've literally had no friends. It's just by lucky chance my current boyfriend and I got together around this time. (Late August). I literally spend every day with him, and when we hangout with people it's always with his friends. It's not that it's not fun... but I just don't have the bond with these people that close friends have.

I do have one friend. Krystie. She's the only friend I have that has any real ethics or compassion for her friends. I've stayed in touch with her but she's been so busy with life lately. She's taking classes in the city, she has a boyfriend, she's bogged down with school and her job... and her family situation has been completely and utterly horrendous. She just doesn't have that much time for me anymore.

And I'm really lonely. I've always had friends. I don't want to sound cocky or anything... but I'm pretty amazing. Point blank. I'm fun to hang out with, I'm nice, I listen when people talk... and I truly do care about my friends. Even now I worry about my friends who completely scummed everyone over. I hear things like they're high every single day, drunk in school, talking badly about me and my sister because we can't find it in ourselves to trust them again... and I get really really upset. I worry for them and what they're doing to themselves. They have such great opportunities ahead of them... and they're choosing to be criminals by breaking and entering into someone's home.. and choosing to abandon friends because they won't justify their bad behavior. It's both sickening and sad.

I dunno if there is any rational solution to this. I think I just needed to kind of admit it. It's quite obvious I need new friends. I need any friends. I have no one besides my boyfriend to call up and say "let's all get together and do something."... nobody to go to for advice or help or just like to giggle with. There are some things you can't ask your boyfriend for advice on.... especially when it concerns him.

I'm not even sure you can build the kind of friendship I had with my old friends before they were party fiends. I've known most of them since 6th grade. We were like an inseperable happy family. It would take years to build that kind of bond.

I know when I go to college I'll make alot of new friends. That's basically a year away. This is my senior year in highschool... and I have basically zero friends. It's supposed to be the year where you rent a limo with all your friends at prom, you stay with all your friends in the same room on the senior ski trip, you take the senior picture next to all your friends in a big huge happy group, you go on scavenger hunts and perform other mischevious activities with your friends... and I'm not going to have any of that. I've already made the decision not to go on the senior ski trip... because I have no friends to room with. And after prom I wanted to stay over for a weekend in Wildwood with all my friends. Now it's like... with what friends? And it's frustrating... I probably won't even really enjoy prom all that much without my friends.

This may not seem like a huge gigantic problem... but I'm really becomming depressed over this. My boyfriend is amazing, don't get me wrong. Out of all the trash I've dated.. he's literally a knight in shining armor. He has something none of them had.. morales. He's just amazing and he protects me... he's my best friend and anything I could possibly ever ask for in a significant other. When I'm with him I laugh as if I've never laughed before... I smile as if the world will stop turning if I frown... but when I'm not with him I'm severely depressed. I cry. It's really bad.

And my boyfriend doesn't even understand it when I try to explain it to him. He's never met most of them, and doesn't care to because of everything I've told him about them. He can't comprehend that losing all my friends was a big loss... he doesn't even understand that I really even had friends before we met. He probably thinks I'm just some big geeky loser who chooses to sit at home all day watching CNN. (Though it's true I've always been a geek, and I've always loved CNN... I used to have a LIFE.. I used to have FRIENDS and go out EVERYDAY... ugh).. So that just makes it infinitely more impossible to bear. The fact that someone can't bear this burden with me.

I dunno. That's it I guess. This has been a novel, a rant, a tirade. Comments are appreciated if they're not inflammatory or insensitive. Thanks for bearing with me.

Posted on 12-10-06 03:53 PM, in The Double Standard. Link
This is about to get heated.

There are double standards that exist between the sexes. In my government class we were talking about Roe v. Wade, and somehow the subject came up about having children and what sex you would like to have them be. I was surprised to hear a guy say "I would like to have girls because they would be going out and doing bad things." Blatently applying that if his boys were to go out and do the same things... they wouldn't be "bad".

There are alot of people who think like this. If a woman has sex with multiple partners, she must be a slut... but when a guy has sex with multiple partners it's accepted as being completely normal... and they're "the man."

To go with a less conventional example. Guys aren't allowed to cry. If guys cry, they're pussies or what have you. Why can't guys cry?

And how come when Guys fight it's considered heroic and justified to an extent... like the person who loses "must have done something wrong"... but when girls fight it's considered a spectator sport? It's hysterical even though these girls could have the exact same grievances against one another that the guys may have had.

Can you aknowledge that double standards exist between the sexes still? And if you can... do you think this is necessarily a bad thing?

(I don't want any "WELL MEN SUCK AND ARE PIGS!" or "WELL WOMEN SUCK AND THEY ARE SLUTS!!" arguments. I want you to take a serious introspective look at the social conditions which bring these standards about... comment on them and interpret them. I'll offer my two cents later on.)

Posted on 12-10-06 04:11 PM, in Skinny women in the media and guys real opinions?? Link
It drives me absolutely crazy that my best friend is struggling with bullemia and she's not even fat. She's gorgeous and has a boyfriend. She's just incredibly jealous of what she doesn't have.

The media portrays what the population thinks is attractive at the time. Mostly, I think this is done in movies and magazines. No one really pays that much attention to advertising campaigns. Magazines are mainly read by women... so that is where you find the bulk of the super skinny flat chested models. Movies, however, have to cater to both audiences... so that's where you find the skinny but not too skinny acresses with breasts. I think that movies convey a more realistic image of the female body... at least moreso than magazines. However you still won't see particularly chubby girls being portrayed as "hot" in movies. I do think though... that this is because it wouldn't appeal to a wide audience. Most people do not consider an extremely chubby girl as attractive.

So because the media tries to portray what the consumers consider attractive... I think that's why it has such an affect on some people... and a glint of truth to it.

I don't know anybody who looks like those girls in the magazines... the super skinny blow over in the wind ones. However... because of the pressure to become thinner felt by women... the models have to be thin. Women will buy those magazines out of their own insecurities. It sells.

Friend noted above.... her room is filled with these magazines. Fear and insecurity sells magazines. I think they need to find a healthier way to cater to their audience. And then they have articles like "my struggle with anorexia"... one page next to "falls hottest fasions" sported by skeleton models. I hate those magazines.

Same here, gotta love being the Bond class of 007. *Dons Tuxedo*

I think that's why it sounded futuristic to me. I think subliminally James Bond is the epitome of the future.
