Ahem. It's evident that this is your idea of a circle.

Anyways, I hate to say it, but the only thing that anyone on the uncaring right has said correctly in this thread was by geeogree. Yes, some of these programs DO NOT HELP THE POOR. That is a problem. But that's only because they're such a beauracracy.

Regardless, ||bass, you're a greedy db who one day hopes he will be rich and not pay many taxes. You're getting rich because of the country you live in, and the laws which make the country what it is. Don't flatter yourself; in an anarchist society (which it sounds like you're proposing), I can't see any company made by anyone here lasting a while.

It's not the government's job to pamper you through life.

Okay now I realize that you have no clue what the hell you're talking about. Do you know what welfare is? Do you realize how INCREDIBLY FUCKING HARD IT IS TO LIVE OFF OF IT, EVEN WITH A JOB? You, sir, are the lazy one who doesn't want to pay for the people that build your cars, clean your streets, build your bridges, and serve your meals.

Nah, I'm joking. Had you there for a second, eh? Someday I too hope to build a company, or even an EMPIRE, run by the poor. Living wages won't even be in my vocabulary, and because the government stopped helping the poor, they'll all die off soon without having chance to create a union! Hail satan!

You are correct in that FEMA did nothing compared to the Red Cross. But that's the government's fault, not the taxpayer's fault; FEMA should have done just as much.

Your argument was less clear until now; the government is much less efficient at helping people, but I don't think we should stop trying. I think this is the biggest problem with government agencies trying to help the poor. Medicare and welfare still do help tons, and shouldn't be abolished.

This speech has to be one of thee best speeches I heard from Bush. My dad paid 20,000+ in taxes already.

You can't be that stupid.

Certain parts were admittedly good at first (like repeating "Democrat and Republican alike"), but they're nothing more than empty statements. Yes, we do have an addiction to oil, but you Bush, have been the one perpetuating this addiction.

As for your dad paying 22k+ in taxes, is that collective or in the past year? If collective, he isn't making much money (actually, come to think of it, he'd probably be on WELFARE if he was 40 and only paid 22k in taxes, so he's a greedy bastard if he complains about it), and if that's in a year, he's making something like 70k a year. I don't think you really see taxes as anything but a way to see the government taking money from you, and thus, your post can be ignored as being based upon nothing.

I will never put a chip in my skin you can go fuck yourself.

You... don't... know... what.. you're.. talking... about... This is painful to read.

Emo (Emotional Hardcore) is certainly not indie (indie being things like Wolf Parade and Interpol). It's hard to define music as indie in general.

No; if these corporate empires don't pay living wages, then they will starve or do something illegal to make money. The government prevents that with welfare (although the corporations should be paying living wages).

Have you ever known someone on welfare? Do you know what welfare is? It's not a handout. You know what is a handout? Rich assholes who take care of snotty kids like you.

I love Sonic Youth. Maybe I like all these grunge bands because I live in Washington, but they're just <3.

Teenage Riot is one of the best songs I've ever heard, and the band is just insanely great. Any other fans here?

Contradictory? If you're going to tell someone why they shouldn't commit suicide, don't try to scare them, tell them the facts (same with discouraging drug use). I doubt his parents would go insane, and he won't die forgotten. There's so many thousands of answers you can give to why not to kill yourself; why choose bad ones? ;(

I wish they could somehow find out that if they actually cared about me, that I would do the same.

You said your parents care about you.

I can't help thinking that without giving any specific examples of how you have suuuch a hard life, you being thirteen, and saying that you can't display emotion (which is obvious self-pity bs, which I do feel sorry for), you just feel sorry for yourself. You're a thirteen year old with no friends, and surrounded by kids that make fun of you.

I'm not saying it isn't hard, but seriously, commiting suicide because thirteen year old pricks don't like you? Psh. They're never going to like you if you act so insecure. That's just the truth. I've seen so many kids like you who feel sorry for themselves in the same way.

There's two types of kids thirteen year olds hate. The ones that feel sorry themselves, and the ones that act like everyone's their best friend. If you're optimistic and have interests other than playing Ragnarok Online and ROM hacking, people will like you some day. You can always redeem yourself. Just don't let anything get you down.

Go outside.

the government can't make people spend money, so income taxation is the only way to do so, right? one thing bothers me is, if "rich people with empires built on the backs of the poor working class," provide jobs...is it fair for those in the poor working class to always remain in the poor working class? ack...it is soooo complicated

Is it fair that the working poor remain poor... hm, working poor staying poor fai-- FAIRNESS AND EQUALITY IS COMMUNISM MAN.

Seriously, if life was fair we all might be happy and not just some of us. Do you really want that?

Oh. You're completely correct, sorry about that. Although they sort of are still grunge, if not from Washington (for instance, their touring with Nirvana in 1991 when neither band was known well at all).

I think they did get lumped in with the whole grunge scene in a round-about way, but to me they dont sound like grunge because of the more experimental nature of their music, with the emphasis on noise experiments and songs in unusual keys rather than on loud sloppy guitars like Nirvana or the later bands copying Nirvana (or Dinosaur Jr., who i always felt Nirvana was copying themselves).

Aye, touring with these grunge bands kind of categorized them themselves.

Also, I love Beat Happening, Walkabouts, Satisfact, and Modest Mouse. Sub Pop manages to get some seriously great indie/grunge/garage rock artists.
