| I have seen the Japanese episodes of Naruto. Sure is a lot more yelling in them. =/
But I have a 56k connection, so it wouldn't work to well for me to just bittorrent episodes. I did manage to download FF7: Last Order, but it was 200 Mb, and took about 4 days. |

| Woahwoahwaitwoahwaitwaitwoahwaitholdon!
You put ROM hacking on your resume and got accepted? Do game companies look for stuff like that? My foundations of thoughts are crumbling as I speak, thinking of stuff like that! Or did you put down experience with Hex editing? |

| Right, sorry. Back on topic, or close to it, on the problems of English subbing.
With a lot of todays English-subbed anime, the same people get voice overs for different series. So you end up watching Gundam Seed, and hear one of Kira's friends say something, and OMG THAT SOUNDS LIKE INUYASHA WTF!?! Also, unlike Japan, where anime is considered the "in" thing and actors stick with their characters voice overs, in America voice overs frequently switch around. I still remember watching that Ruroni Kenshin movie, forgot the name, and the only one who sounded the same as the TV series was Kenshin himself. So, meh. Considering the situation for lot's of us anime-obsessed kids, English subs will have to do. Or manga, if we just want to go for the real experience. |

| Heh, Link's sheets are radioactive.
Yeah, the stairs are the only real problem I can see in that picture. Also, you might want to fix the chest palette a little, just a suggestion. So, do you plan on changing the game overall, or just making a Polish translation? |

| My instructor only had me park in a regular parking lot slot during the test. I think it's because I complimented him on his "lacking appearence of balding". But yeah, watch out for the written test. It actually has some trick questions on it, go figure. | |||

| With a school that good, they probably pay for a good chunk of that themselves. At least, that's how it works with places like Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth. | |||

Dude, I don't care if that's only a tile edit right now. If you do a good level change with that game, and edit some more graphics, that'll rock socks alright. |

| You know, considering how many tile editing utilities are designed specifically for ROMS (TLP being an example), you'd figure that would be a built in feature. =/
But yeah. Edit the graphics in a tile editor, insert them into a backup ROM, check how it looks, then try it with different graphics in a different backup. Or at least, it sounds like that's what you want to do. IMO, you should just edit one graphic at a time, instead of trying them all out in advance and putting them in the ROM at the same time. But just out of curiosity, what game are you changing the graphics in? Some utilities for certain games allow you to decrompress specific graphics one at a time instead of the whole bunch, and you'd be able to edit and insert them individually. |

| And then, as mentioned above, there's SonikSprite, which edits the sprites of Sonic 1, 2...
Wait! If I recall correctly, the latest version of SonikSprite can edit the sprites in S&K and S3 respectively, just not both together. Just edit the sprites in each, and then combine the two ROMS into S3&K using the proper utility. It should be all set then. Sonicresearch.org usually has all the needed utilities, but the sites under construction right now. However, I do believe that all the needed utilities can still be found at sonicology.fateback.com. Edit: Or to make this easier... Sonik Sprite - http://sonicology.fateback.com/downloads/utilities/soniksprite.rar And I'm not sure, but Hacking Wiz Pro I or II should have a program to combine S3 and S&K cartidges. Esrael's editor does, but that also adds a whole bunch of unnescesary hex to your hack. Still, Sonic hackers use it, so your choice. (edited by Metal Knuckles on 12-29-05 10:11 AM) |

| Nothing can really be compared to FFX-2 besides, well, FFX. And the reason I say this isn't because play quality, but the unique dressphere idea. Of course, I could probably be blundering in the dark with that one, since I don't think, not know, whether it has been used in another RPG. Sure seems simple enough, despite it's unique... ity...
Paper Mario, now that I don't know about. I haven't played either one, so I can't exactly comment on quality. However, I remember in a Nintendo Power way back when, they called it the direct sequel to Mario RPG. So, I dunno. Sounds like it would be good. |

| And the reason is because while the Jay's are a good team, the Soxs and Yankees just have a stronger line-up. I mean, sure the guy got MVP in 2002. But trading season ain't done yet, and the Yankees and Bosox have already had strong teams. Also, there's other things you have to take into account, such as team working well together-ness, and the stadium...
So honestly, yeah. The Jay's just got a really good player. But do I think that this is trouble for the leading teams in the AL East? No. Because, as I recall, the Yankees also just got a really good player (shudders), and the Sox just got... Faherty... ... Damn, this thing with Damon's still hurtin'. | Ah, I do believe this is my area of expertise. One of the few, anyways.
In SonikSprite, there are three kinds of areas in the picture box. Pink boxes, which are the edges of the tiles, grey boxes, which are reused areas, and blanks boxes (aka not grey or pink), which are editable. What SonikSprite (refereed to from this point on as SS for my convenience) does is take all the tiles from the ROM, like TLP or Molester. So all the information it contains is basically what Shyguy already showed:
The program takes this information and arranges it in the correct order, making it easier for editing. However, when arranged to for the image, the tiles do not always form a regular four sided box. With some images, such as Sonic laying down, tiles are not used at the top of the image. So pink boxes are put in place of the missing tiles, to show that the area is unused information, aka no tiles. No tiles to edit, no changes to the ROM. Not happening. Nadah. Yoink. Also, some tiles are reused in different images for one character, which brings the grey boxes into play. If you look at some of the later Sonic running sprites, you'll notice the grey boxes appearing over his head. This area can not be edited from that selection, because it is taking the head tiles from a previous running sprite. To edit that part of the image, go back to where it takes the tiles from, edit the image there, and it should be edited when you go back. You might have to go searching for where some of the tiles are taken from in the grey boxes, so it might be useful to just remember them before you edit them. Just something that helps me out. All the other areas are just regular tiles, and are fair game to edit as long as you keep it in the correct palette range. And SS already takes care of that, even when you edit the palettes. So it's really just a case of learning to check back and forth between different sprites, seeing what tiles connect what images, and making them so they each correspond with eachother. And they all lived happily ever after. |

| No way to copy and paste in SS, but if you export all of the sprites, you can edit them (I prefer MSPaint) and then import them back into the ROM as you see fit. | |||

| Megaman, use TLP to open the ROM, and download this:
http://sonicology.fateback.com/downloads/tpl/TPLs.rar This is a group of palette files for different Sonic games, and included are the palettes for main characters in Sonic 3/&K. Open that palette while the ROM is loaded, and the tiles should go to the correct palette. Also, for editing the palettes throughout the entire game, download ChaoSaxPal: http://sonicology.fateback.com/downloads/utilities/chaospal.rar |
