I've been working on Nuts & Milk for a while (Asm hacking), to create my DONKEY KONG 2 game.... here's the question.

I have collected the hex address data for every single level, every song and sound effect, as well as the pallette and graphic data. If I were to give someone this info...

would they be willing to create a GUI Editor for the game?

I can edit all the levels myself but it is very time consuming to convert and track all the data by only using hex values.

any volunteers?

Okay for those Adventure of Lolo / Eggerland fans, I made a title screen hack.

This will restore the title of Eggerland back to the original Famicom Disk System title.
To me this adds a little preview of who the antagonist is, and who you're trying to save, a little character introduction if you will.

The .rar file includes 2 patches, one to use with the japanese rom, and another to use with the recently translated rom.

patch (FDStitle.ips) to 'Eggerland - Meikyuu no Fukkatsu.nes'
for the translated patch, first use Kapow's .ips patch, then second use my .ips patch.

you might as well make "Cap'n N the Game Master" an actual nes game featuring all the characters. I wonder what engine would support something like that.....

You know what I was thinking of for "Snake Rattle and Roll"? Turn it into a Yoshi game...

Feel free to borrow this idea cause it would work on many levels.

* Yoshi can lash the tongue out to swallow enemies.

* Things swallowed could turn into eggs trailing behind.

* Also it is possible to jump on enemies to kill them Mario style.

It would be perfect..... but the reason I didnt jump on this idea and do it myself is for one reason only.

* Moving around the board only uses one sprite... So Yoshi would just be sliding around everywhere instead of walking.

use the emulator 'fceuxdsp' to change color pallettes and for beta testing (use the PPU Viewer to find the values of the colors, then search for those values in the Hex Editor in "Rom File") yes pretty much all your left with is those hex values to deal with unless you have an editor.

Then use either Tile Molester, or Tile Layer Pro to edit the graphics, and yes you are only left with those scattered images, theres nothing that will automatically "Piece" all the sprites together for you.

when you make changes in one "save rom" to save it perminently. Once you do, you have to reload the rom in the other program, or else you'll lose what you've changed if you decide to "save rom" in the other.

this is all confusing at first, but just download these programs, play around with them, don't expect to make a game all pretty at first, just start with a simple game, make changes, and see what you've done. Just see how well you can destroy a game, then you'll be a step closer to creating a game.. A good hacker can figure things out by experimenting, and having patience.

Well credit goes to where credit is due.

for instance, if you were to release your color pallette rendition of my Donkey Kong 2 hack, I would expect you to say "Graphics by Elbobelo, Colors by Googie" or something like that. (which by the way you are free to release)

by the way thanks again for showing me how to change pallettes, without learning that I wouldn't have been able do a lot of the graphics I wanted to in DK2.

oh and I hope Kapow is cool with me releasing his translation here. Let me know if your around.

Ahhhh so it's a sequel to Eggerland. I didn't realize, I never played the original.

It was just something I invisioned, so I did it. It's nothing major.

But one thing is for sure, you're right I shouldn't have released your translation here without asking you, I was just trying to make it easier on the gaming community, and figured people who are hackers would be cool with sharing... as long as they got credit. I apologize.

Okay the attatchment that has your translation is deleted by your request, I didn't realize it was possible to delete posts until now. The first attatchment doesn't contain any of your work, only your name in the beginning title, which I can remove also apon request.

Downloads with only my work = 13 (so far)
Downloads including your translation = 4 (before I deleted, and Im guessing you were one of those 4)

SO the max # of people that received your translation without the doc is no more than 3.

I don't see what all the fuss is. You posted a link to your documentation. So therefore the document became available on this thread. That seemed fine, why is it "not cool" to leave it the way it was? (rhetorical) I thought you would appreciate the fact that I acknowledged you and your translation when making my crappy title screen, I tried to tribute your work as much as I could. May I ask why this has become such a problem?

Edit:
pulled from the doc:
Translator: Boco (boco at chibiusa-loves-hotaru dot zzn dot com)

Oh I see, you didn't translate the game. That's a very good reason to include the document because I didn't see anything else of value in there. If I decide to remake the patch I just deleted (color fixes), then I will certainly give credit to the hard workers in the title. Saying "Translation by Boco", "Hacking by Kapow", and "Title by Elbobelo". I feel like an ass not giving credit to the actual translator. Your right.

Here's a sprite sample taken from my current NES hack in progress.
It's a brawler game based off of a very good anime series.

*DING* *DING* *DING* your the prize winner.

I have 3 current projects, here are their status.

Super Dr. Mario:
* Most graphics are done
* This was before I knew how to change colors so that still needs to be done.
* it would take a more advanced knowledge of ASM to make Kid Kool not suck.
* Put on major suck delay.

Donkey Kong 2:
* All graphics & colors are done.(already released as a patch)
* All Music and SFX data is found, just trying to decide what to put there.
* 25 out of 50 levels are changed into custom levels, I'm just taking a break cause it's so much work getting them to fit in the space alotted.
* Put on short delay incase of an ASM epiphany dawns that would allow me to expand the rom, allowing me to make the larger levels that I want.

Ranma 1/2 (unknown title)
* more than half way done with Genma. Other playable characters will be Boy-type Ranma and Girl-type Ranma.
* The baddies I plan to feature are Ryoga, Shampoo, Ukyo, Tatewaki Kuno, Kodachi Kuno, Principal Kuno, Happy, & Cologne.

You know, I just realized the level of stupidity displayed here in Mariodizzy's (who's banned!lol) header.

Young Dizzy?! wtf kind of concept is Young DIzzy?!? he's a fucking egg! How much younger can you possibly be than at the egg stage. That's like a spinoff of the Family Guy featuring a young Stewie.

thats all.

Has anyone seen the movie Clockwork Orange? It's a Stanley Kubrick film where the main characters in the movie are shown having a great time going around vandalizing and raping.
Why was it such a popular movie? In the business world there is ShoCK VaLuE... and it sells.
I think the one thing Jomb is laughing about is everyone's reaction. It's to make HIM laugh right?
and I probably won't play this hack because it doesn't look very funny especially the title, maybe you'll have a funny one sometime if you keep working on these because a completely inappropriate 8-bit NES game could work if done right.

Here are some NES hacks I have had ideas for.

Slalom - The graphics could be changed into Mario Kart and would have a similar feel to MK.

SASA - with the way these controls are, this game could be converted into a fun Mario Sunshine style Water Pack game.

Snake Rattle and Roll - Could be made into a Yoshi Game.

Shadow of the Ninja - this game is such a rip off of Castlevania that only graphic changes would be needed. Most of the enemies would behave just like Castlevania (hubchback, whitedragon, fishman, etc.) if you just changed their graphics. Plus there is a weapon that behaves just like the whip.

weird, I guess games that start with 'S' inspire me. but that is all for now
