Hm, sorry, I don't think I made my daily one post... Won't let it happen again.

The ground patter does seem like it might get repetitive quickly, though... It still looks good.

I would have to agree with Alastor that they don't fit in with the original SMW graphics. However, I don't see that as a problem, though I would have to see them in JAMH to be sure...

I also don't know about the idea of the eggplant splitting into two eggplants...

Coffee tastes too watery for me... As for Fanta, (though I'm in the US) the Orange soda is my favorite brand of orange soda, but I haven't tried any of the other flavors.

I recall reading somewhere a long time ago that a Coca-Cola Coffee drink was more popular than Coca-Cola itself in Japan, but that's likely something completely different, since the article says this is a new blend.

Hm, rather than simply do the slightly longer equivalent of "Quoted for Truth", I'll comment on the rules- as for the questions, certainly, if someone's dumb enough to not look at the help file I suppose they probably shouldn't be hacking anyway.
As for stupidity, though, I'm not sure. I mean, obviously we shouldn't have "joke hacks" which end up the opposite of funny, but I mean, I think we should be encouraging newbies, not filling their threads with insults. Now, some people are admittedly beyond help and are simply complete morons, which is why I'm not sure.
On the subject of idiotic comments being repeated, a definate yes... though how can you judge level design from a screenshot in a game like SMW anyway? (I suppose you could in something like Donkey Kong or Lolo)
Read the help file, definately.

Didn't wario have a Metroid SMW hack? Only difference here seems to be that you're actually thinking about it.

The main problem I see is that SMW's engine would need major hacking to produce any sort of exploration gameplay like Metroid... for example, the power up system. Sure, you can have a blaster and a morph ball, but how do you duplicate the way Metroid forces you to get items to get past certain areas? I suppose you could use a combination of a good exploratory overworld and switch blocks, though the way the overworld works makes it too easy to backtrack for a good Metroid-style game... I guess I'd have to see how it came out.

HHH3: I'd rather see it with Super Metroid graphics...

Personally, I don't like the way the new rules imply that unless you know everything about SMW hacking already, you shouldn't be posting here- that may not have been the intention, but it certainly seems to come off that way.

I still think the larger problem is not the n00bs posting crappy hacks, but others posting stupid, useless, or overly repetitive comments, which is also covered thankfully.

Well certainly there should be a level seriousness- after all, this isn't one of the craziness forums.

Legoman is an example of a hacker who is improving (well,, his grammer isn't, but I mean, at least he has an excuse)... his Dangerous Missio 2 hack does actually look decent, though admittedly I don't know what was up with that "virtual man lost freind" hack...

And a typical legoman thread would be a perfect example of useless posts, with many people jumping in to randomly insult legoman without any actual criticism other than "you suck".

I have to agree, Dangerous Mission 2 does show some promise, but even it can't save his reputation as one of the worst hackers this board has ever seen. Or don't you remember: "This is not the end! This is a you're mission!" But right now, in my opinion, he is second only to golden goomba. Now THAT is an awful hack

But can he improve? Yes. Is he improving? Probably. Only time will tell.

Well, at least Engrish is funny... :p But I think he deserves a little slack, Finnish is pretty different than English (not even Indo-European!) so I would assume it's hard to switch from one language to another.

I'm the first to admit this is true, but don't you think that, had he not posted screenshots of his bad-looking hacks in the first place, he wouldn't be insulted? I'm not insulting him, I'm just pointing out that he's one of the many reasons the old forum was trashed.

Well, yes, but had he not posted screenshots of his bad-looking hacks, he wouldn't have gotten that rare bit of good criticism that probably helped improve him somewhat...

Hm, if it does share formats with Sonic games there could be a good chance that it uses the same graphics compression, and I believe Nemesis made a graphics searcher for that format- might be worth a try.

Oh, so we're just going to fill the new forum with noob-bashing... was that the point? I mean, looking at any new person's hack thread on the old board you get tons of it anyway.

Well, admittedly one might have assumed there was a level transfer feature they were missing, since there is a background transfer function.

The overall eyes+mouth is 16x32, though, so I suppose the eye tiles were combined with the mouth tiles- I'm not sure if that would work, but tweaked right...

I think the assumption with the clashing styles is that the level graphics will be changed as well- in fact, I believe that point has been raised before in this thread.

There is a Kid Icarus editor out there, but it doesn't work on the newest version of Windows (a long while back I was hacking KI, but had to give up on it for that reason)

I've always thought they should remake the Donkey Kong Land series with DKC-style graphics... It would go with the recent DKC remakes, at least.

I have to say, he looks a bit chubby...

A decent sprite, seems to fit in well enough with the SMW style at least... though to say more I'd have to see a screen with more changed. It sounds like a good idea, I like the storyline.

Though are pants really that important on this kind of character? I mean, most of the Sonic characters (other than the females) have no pants...

Oh, well if we're going to play THAT game...

Main character, probably missing a few frames and some polishups. Small sprites edited off the Squished Rex.

Partially completed tileset for Ye Olde Bigge Citye. The reshaded text and DDP sprite is for a Doki Burger joint. And the recoloured/shaded RCR dustbin is... uhh... a dustbin, I guess. Still have to do a background, but that won't take much work.

And I got bored a while back and tried to edit Reznor sprites to replace the Dino Rhyno. Then I decided to edit the Mini-Rhyno into a baby Reznor. Didn't QUITE finish it though.

Interesting, the main character reminds me of BMF's SMB2 hack characters... the City tileset looks great too.
