The version of MSIE here likes munching on the acmlm.org cookies (for example, going there now I'm not logged in), but not the board.

We have about as much evidence for Jesus as for Boudicca and many other Roman era figures, but no one questions their existance. But found a major religion...

NEONSwift: Wow, that looks great, though I wonder if the castle roof would look better a little darkened?

It's not Tweaker that's Jesus, it's Stealth... though I suppose that would make Tweaker one of the 12 Apostles...

This (hm, not a hack) ISO is awesome... And the "Test Level" has some nice GFX.

Many Genesis games use compression- one art compression very often used is called the "Nemesis" format, and actually has a searcher program for it somewhere that can find art compressed in it.

This is a pirate GB game I downloaded the ROM from a long time ago... I wonder if anyone knows anything about it. The title screen has Mario in the wing cap, his eyes and moustache twitching, while under him is a planet with the label "SUPER MARIO 4" on it. The copyright date in 1996, 1997 Nintendo.
The game itself is alright, though not really Marioish. You start out as Super Mario, who has a Mushroom in his item box and shoots mushrooms, which just roll across the ground and hit enemies. When you hit a mushroom, Mario turns into a blob for a few seconds before becoming Super Mario again.

Does anyone know anything about the origins of this game? Specifically, whether it is a pirate original or a hack of another game.

I considered that, but since I'm not sure if it's a ROM Hack, I figured it might get moved here anyway. Perhaps General Emulation?

NO, N00B! Make your own thread about it! Don't spam this gem of a thread!

Sorry for the flaming, but this thread means so much to me.

It's just a thread...

Anyway, Terabyte, check Esrael's site, he might have a patch... and if not there, then I reccomend checking some sonic ROM Hacking based sites.

Very nice... Good idea using the small mario to create the soldier head, since you're using the Always Big patch.

You don't see many SMW hacks that use the original graphics- not that using the original graphics is a bad thing. The level design looks interesting.

The Japanese Soundtrack is better... And Sonic Gems's port has some problems (there is no separate underwater pallete, for example), so if you have a Sega CD I reccomend getting that version instead, plus you can have the Japanese music. Probably not worth it to go buy a Sega CD just for one game, though.

I really liked the time travel feature, and I disagree with the comment that it's too hard to find the robots in the past- I did it easily enough most of the time.

With the lava, since you've gotten rid of small mario, could you alter the tile arrangements to use his tiles and expand the lava?

If you have the space, it might be nice to have some sort of heiroglyphics in the background along with the torces, but I know space is limited...

Oh my god, don't tell me this stupid debate is coming here now. It was stupid at SSRG, and I think it's stupid here too.

Here's my point: The meaning of words comes from how they are used. That is, if everyone started to use the word "dumbass" to describe a smart person instead, we could consider "smart person" a meaning of "dumbass".
Since the term ROM hacking has been used since the process began, there is no reason to change it because you think that the definition of hacking should not include it. Perhaps the word was coined for some other meaning- however, word meaning shifts over time. Words meanings change over time... At one point, the term "Europe" only applied to the island of Crete. However, we don't see movements arguing that Europe should be called something else and the name be returned to only meaning "Crete", do we?

(Not counting blocktool, provided they do the ASM work themselves.)

Why, because you like feeling special?
Umm, OK, so I am bored. Here's the only opinion I have on the subject: Using SMB Utility to change the levels of SMB1 (no matter what you do with it, as long as you only use SMB Utility) you're a modder. That's right, just like those guys that make the AWP in Counter Strike do even more damage, or make a Quake 3 MOD where every hit is an insta-gib. You are a pansy in the overall scheme, though we may enjoy you're work.
More elitism, I see. Why should someone who just wants to make new SMB1 levels need to learn to use a hex editor and all that simply to avoid being a "pansy" in the eyes of people like you? "Only using an editor" is not equal to "idiot".
It's a matter of context. If you say "game modding" it should be fairly obvious.
And if you say ROM Hacking, it should be fairly obvious...

But if someone did that in the C64 scene, they'd be considered "lame" for hacking someone else's release.

I would guess that, while not the whole reason, the modern console scene has more interest in hacking, where you want the ROMs to be the same for patching purposes. Also, I would guess that as a percentage of people interested in C64 ROMs (is that the term?) dumpers themselves, who care more about recognition, while in the consoles more people just want to play the games and don't care who dumped it, and want an experience closest to the console over other concerns.

A one-state solution will not work. Palestinian demographics are such that the Palestinians will outnumber the Jewish population soon enough, and the Jews want their own state anyway.

As for human rights violations, what about Jordan, which had annexed and granted citizenship to the West Bank Palestinians, but now does nothing as they languish in camps? What about the other Arab states, that have refused to give full citizenship to the Palestinians because they want to continue the Arab-Israeli conflict to prevent their citizens from rising against the corrupt rulers? But we can talk about past atrocities as much as we want- but what we have to deal with are the facts on the ground, now.

In my opinion, the current peace process is a failure. Essentially it seems to go like this: 1) Israel opens up to the Palestinians; 2) Palestinians and Israelis make deal; 3) Suicide Bombers continue to kill Israeli civilians; 4) Israel takes action against terrorism and gets condemned by the world. Look at the recent "truce", where Palestinian groups attacked Israelis but news organizations only mention the truce being in danger when Israel decides to defend itself.

The best we can hope for is a Gaza Strip + Most of the West Bank Palestinian state. East Jeruslaem will likely not be a part of it, thankfully the Israelis have been good about allowing Muslims to rule over their holy sites (did not Jordan, during it's rule of the city, set up a military base with deconstruction equipment near the Wailing Wall? The threat there was clear, but Israel has done nothing of the sort near Al-Aqsa).

Do we have to be such assholes? At least he's trying...

legoman: You should really add some graphics to the blue map16 blocks, and perhaps make some custom graphics for the levels, since otherwise people will whine that it looks the same, not to mention it looks much better. Also, learn the rules of English spelling and grammer... or don't use text blocks at all...
For example:
"Welcome This is cool smb world! it's cool!!!try all pipes and door's!and message box's!and find key and keyhole!"
vs.
"Welcome to Cool Super Mario World, it's Cool! Try all the pipes, doors, and message boxes! Unlock gates with keys!"
(This doesn't solve the over enthusiasm problem, but at least it doesn't make you look like as much of an idiot.)
