Was PSO in the Phantasy Star universe (in the broad sense)? It felt quite disconnected to me (not to mention throwing out the ending of PSIV alltogether)... I always thought of it as something like an FF-style sequal- with some shared elements (Darkfalz, seal, etc.) but not a storyline sequal.

Anyway, I was never able to really get into PSO (probably because I never was able to play it online), so I most likely won't be getting this one at all.

Actually, Sonic 2 was based off of Sonic 1, not an entirely new program- the music is all Sonic 1, the engine still has many traces of Sonic 1 as well. I would say that it is a prototype.

I thought of doing this once... one major problem I had was discovering new areas- I suppose if you could find a way to make the fireflower permanent, that would be a start, as you could melt blocks and discover that way... however, you'd definately need more than that, look how many weapons Metroid has after all...

I would assume that it wouldn't be too complicated to get rid of being warped to the map after a Switch Palace... bosses could be more complicated, especially bosses with their own rooms.

Alright, I've been having some large-scale problems with my computer (a Compaq Deskpro EN) for the past few days.

At first, it was small- basically, the computer would not recognize the hard drive, and then after a restart it would. Then, it became harder, it took several tries to recognize the drive.

Now, however, it has grown worse. It will not recognize the drive at all, and an attempt to copy working settings from a working Compaq computer has made it even worse than before- the Setup now demands a password. The computer the settings were copyed from did not use a password, however, now I can not save anything in the setup.

The hard drive has mysteriously started working again- however, I have no idea for how long, since it's done this before.

Thankfully, the password is now gone- fooling with the battery solved that.

Which of those would be most likely to cause sporadic working/non-working behavior?

To be fair, the Nomad was built for the specific purpose of playing Genesis games...

You know, this probably would have been better if they had just shoved Sonic 1's levels into the Sonic Advance engine (which isn't perfect either, but seems to be better than this)- at the very least there could be a few more extras than simply Spindash...

You know, this port vaguely reminds me of Somari (alright, so it's better than that) Somari added the Spindash too, and at least they had the excuse that they were a bunch of cheap pirates hoping to make a fast buck and porting a game to a system worse than the Genesis... For a major company, it just makes it that much worse.

Porting stuff from the Nick Arcade disassembly? Are you thinking of adding the bounce-against-walls thing? Your levels seem to be designed as such that it wouldn't throw them off as it might in other hacks.
