If our founding fathers were all such hard-core christians who would be ashamed of our seperation of church and state, then why did they write it into the constitution?

I was flipping channels recently and someone on Fox News was trashing the French, apparently because they surrendered to Nazis over 50 years ago. It got me thinking though, being French is an ethnicity, so the whole thing is actually kinda racist. But it goes on all the time and no one seems to care. Now if we took a different ethnic group, like say African Americans, and said equally racist things about them on national television there would be a serious uproar and people would'nt stand for it, there may even be violence. Why do people of French ethnicity have to put up with this racism while no one else does? Should'nt we be against racism in any form?

I really like Cronenberg's early horror movies, like The Parasite Murders, Rabid, and The Brood. Videodrome is an incredible movie, but it transcends horror to become surreal art at the same time.
Night of the Living Dead is probably one of the best Horror movies ever made to.

I dont actually spend money on porn, just whatever i can find online once in a while when the feeling strikes... it just seems like anymore, unless i specifically look for vintage porn, the woman may have attractive faces and nice figures, probably even better than the vintage girls were, but then they go and ruin it by having all those tattoos and piercings and screaming obscenities in an obnoxious rather than sexy way. And the whole making a girl gag on a cock is not a turn on to me, having her gently suck on one in a feminine way would be though. I dont know, to me a woman being feminine and girlish is sexy, a girl looking/acting rough and hardened is not. I also dont understand the attraction in this whole ass-to-mouth thing, what's the point? Thats kinda gross, and i normally like anal sex!

I'm not really big on lesbians, there is no one in the scene for me to identify with. Being a man, i want the woman to like men

If you collect music, there are bound to be times when you buy something thinking its going to be really good, only to get stuck with a piece of crap. So what are your biggest let-downs?

for me:
Cro-Mags - Near Death Experience.... I was in high school, i loved hardcore music at the time. I had heard one Cro-Mags song and really liked it so i rushed out and bought the only album by them at my local record store. The song i liked was not on there. In fact i thought i had gotten a different band by accident when i turned it on. But no, this is the same band... only whiny, boring, and hare krishna.
Guided By Voices - Do The Collapse... It was the late 90's, GBV was my favorite band, having made a dozen kick ass albums. Then i got this one. What the fuck, the king of lo-fi rock have made an over-produced attempt at mass-appeal. It is dreadfully lame, and i have'nt bothered with them since for fear of getting more crap like this. Their older albums still kick-ass though.
Meat Puppets - Out My Way... I loved Meat Puppets II to death, but then i got this. Gone is the energy and origionality. Whats left is boring. Snore.

Actually it was some business news thing, it was'nt O'Reilly this time. There were 4 people talking, and one said some racist stuff about the French then the other 3 all agreed.

You may have saved me some money, I really liked the song Maps also, and bought the Machine ep as a result, and i like it. I planned on eventually getting more, but if Fever To Tell sucks, i'll avoid that one!

I have to say that some videogames i've played (Silent Hill, Siren) have been far scarier than any movie I can think of, because you get more into the story and are not just a passive observer.

Actually i'd prefer the girl to be fairly quiet, even silent would'nt bother me, yelling at the top of her lungs is just too much. When its obviously staged makes it worse.

Its kinda unfair to generalize an entire ethnicity based on a government. I say if there were some talking heads on Fox News saying that Blacks are all headed for prison anyway and are a burden on society because they have the highest unemployment rate, that just would'nt fly, even if statistically blacks are more likely to go to prison. And it should'nt fly because its unfair to generalize an entire ethnicity based on one faction of it. But if they go on saying the French are all lazy bastards and deserve the riots they had, then go on to joke about surrendering to Nazi's, as if the average French citizen of today had anything to do with that, it strikes me as racist. And i find it highly curious that this sort of racism is tolerated and even glorified, while most other kinds would be political suicide. Last time i checked the French were our allies, and historically have halped us to gain our independance, even gave us a nice statue. Why hate them now?

If that is true, then why did they not just say seperation of church and state to protect religion? (which makes little sense to me) I read that the reason for the seperation was because they believed that religion had a corrupting influence on government. Look at places like Spain several hundred years ago, that was basically a Catholic version of the Taliban.

Religion should be seperated from Government completely and utterly, in all ways. That said, PEOPLE should be invoolved in government, and they may belong to a religion, but should be acting as people first and members of what-ever church second.

Rom Manic - I dont remember! Where did we last discuss this?

I myself am a non-smoker. I dont smoke anything, not even cigarettes... but with Marijuana it is so ridiculous that its a felony that even i have to step up and admit it should be legal. Now, if we were talking about heroin i'd have to say that one should be illegal.

Many years ago i visited France and was treated nicely. But regardless, generalizing an entire people is just wrong, how would you like it if some foreigners hated you, Skydude, because they lumped you in with the left-wing liberals.

On second thought, maybe that's a bad example, because American is not an ethnicity, it is a nation, while French is also an ethnicity. Many people in America have French ancestry though.

I'd have to reject an economic model for justice. That kind of system leads to injustice, with lives being ruined over petty bullshit. When someone has their life literally destroyed beyond repair over a damn marijuana joint, they have gone from being a "perpetrator" to being a victim of the system itself. Being the victim of an injustice can cause a person to become bitter and hateful in their outlook. Taking hope that things will get better away from someone causes them to no longer care what happens, and be more likely to committ more crimes. Justice should be based on what punishment is appropriate and fitting to the crime, not over a cost-analysis of whats going to gain the most money for the government, be politically the best move, or "deter crime" which is a load of crap. Penalties for crimes have been rising and rising over the years as politicians win votes by being "tough on crime". The crime rate has not notably gone down, in many cases its risen. Its this mentallity which has made America the prison capital of the world bar-none, even beating out China by a huge margin. Its not working and its costing us tons of money.

Of all the things which have caused suffering and death to human beings throughout recorded history, not counting natural disasters, religion would be at the top of the list. It has been used to justify many a genocide, and much death and destruction upon the "heathens". Some of you will say "BUT IT WAS ONLY AN EXCUSE!!!! NOT THE REASON", to which i say hogwash. That is just what happens when religion is given complete authority. This is why we need seperation of church and state, and why it was one of our founding fathers greatest concepts. To all those millions of people who participated in genocides in the past because of their religion it was not just an excuse, it was divine will which they felt was the true and right thing to do. In retrospect its easy to say it was just an excuse, and maybe it was to the few people on top, but to the great masses it was not. Without the convenient excuse that religion allowed, most of these things simply would not have happened, or would have been fought as a regular war instead of as a "go murder every single one of those sick heathen bastards BECAUSE GOD WILLS IT!" type of affair. There is a great deal we can learn from history, the greatest lesson is that history tends to repeat itself, the greatest indicator of what will happen in the future is what happened in the past. And in this case its perfectly clear, when religion is in control of the government, what happens is genocides, intolerance, crusades, witch hunts, forced conversions, populations kept in a state of ignorance, and inquisitions.

Skydude - Actually many people do not know what the penalty is until its too late. Most people dont spend their time hanging out in law libraries looking up criminal statutes, and there was never any class in my high school about what actions are crimes and what the penalties would be. I mentioned earlier in this thread my friend doing 16 years on account of his underage GF, he sure never thought he was facing 16 years, infact he did'nt even know a crime took place, hence signing the birth certificate. When you get down to it very few Americans can be bothered to watch the news, let alone do law research.
But regardless of any of that, the punishment should fit the crime. I dont care if a law were to say that you'd get life in prison for jay-walking, that would'nt make it any better when someone did get life over it. It still would'nt make it their fault that the system is so greedy and slimey as to actually ruin their life over something silly. Additionally, many people who commit these sorts of petty crimes are very young themselves, and for many of them there is no second chance. Everyone should get a chance to redeem themselves over foolish mistakes made in their youth, but as it is now there is no possibility of redemption in amny cases. This sort of system raises the crime rate, i've seen first hand the hopelessness of many of these people, who now feel like their only chance to get anywhere in life would now be through crime, and that they have nothing more to lose anyway, having already lost just about everything.

Max - I did'nt really care for Teenage FBI much, and was disappointed that was the highlight of the album. I may eventually check out something more recent by them, but they went from my "must get every single recording from this band" to my "maybe if i see it cheap and have some extra money" list.

I forgot Metallica, i quit caring about them after their self-titled album. But by then i was losing interest in metal in general.

Mattp - you gotta take chances sometimes to get the really good stuff Most of my favorite bands right now started off as gambles on my part.
