Music has influence on our emotions, it can make you happy... or sad. I was just wondering, have any of you ever heard a song so sad that it actually brought you to tears? Not because of any life event you may have experienced that it reminded you of (for example, if its the song that was playing when you found out a loved one died or anything like that). I mean has a song ever, entirely on its own merits, been able to get that strong of a response from you.

I just saw on the news that the black men in question are now trying to sue Richards for cash. What he said was over the line, but this is no better. I have little sympathy for them now because they appear to be greedy and living up to the negative stereotypes. Just because someone insulted you should be no reason to sue, that's just pathetic.

Lakithunder - are you almost at tears because you dislike love in general, or is it because the love song is so hideously ill-conceived that you cant stand it?

Like you already pointed out, it's all about power and control. Some people believe in their heart that they are exactly right about everything and if you are'nt living just like them then you are sick and twisted, or at the very least wrong. They will toss around the word morals, moral decay, fall of the Roman empire, etc. They will come up with propaganda to make it seem like severe harm is being caused where none actually is (for example, Marijuana is a gateway drug, or a 16 year old having consentual sex with their BF/GF is being forcibly raped because they cant give consent legally). Their reasoning is based on fear rather than cold hard facts.

I think that our entire legal system needs redone. It can be made much simpler, throw out every law where there is no clear and definitive victim or property damage. Then make the punishments fit the crime on whats left. The only thing worse than making some bullshit law is making the punishment life ending for it. I believe that it should be a pre-requisite of every judge to do a year in a maximum security prison as an inmate prior to taking the bench. That way they know exactly what they are sentencing people to, and possibly that would make conditions more humane in there.

I've also been near tears before at how dreadful some songs are, that would be an interesting topic in itself!

I have some games in .bin / .cue format. Does anyone know how I could convert these to .mp3 / .iso format? I want to conserve space on my hard drive and I know I could save tons of space this way. I know how to convert the .iso / .mp3's to .bin/.cue's, but not the other way around.

You're confusing me, when did I say i wanted to convert it to an audio file? I'm trying to convert it into MP3 / ISO format, which is when you have an ISO file that stores the data and then a bunch of MP3's for the audio tracks.
I already tried Google before coming here and found tons and tons of step by step guides for converting to Bin/Cue, which is what I already have, but none for how to convert the other way. I'll look again though because you got different results than me (I used slightly different wording in my search and somehow that made a huge difference in the results).

Another point of confusion is that apparently there are multiple ISO formats, one of which is just a single ISO encapsulating the entire disc, including the audio tracks. This would be equivalent to what I already got and would not save me any space. Its the breaking it down to also have MP3 files for the audio tracks which would save me a few gigs of space on my poor cramped hard drive

edit: if anyone knows how to rip a game disc and get ISO/WAV files, that would also solve my problem, because I can simply mount the images I have now and then rip them again as ISO/WAV's, then convert the WAV to MP3.

"Also, the first of my results was, and I quote, "convert iso to bin, iso to bin converter, iso to bin cue file ...". There's not much more you'd need to look through. "

I went there, and it was for a program which costs alot of money. I dont want to spend alot of money then find out that it would just convert them to a single huge ISO with no MP3s (I've had games in that format before)

I know there are a few which likely have no audio tracks, but the majority should (I'm talking about SegaCD, TG16CD and Saturn games).

None of the games I'm trying to compress actually use MP3's, but if I could get them into a format with .Wav files, I could convert the waves to Mp3s, make a .bat file to re-convert them back when needed, then package them away for a fraction of the space they currently take up on my hard drive and shelf.

I already use Daemon Tools extensively for emulation, and I could burn my games onto actual CDs to back them up, but that is very inconvenient and would take up too much shelf space. What I'm really looking to do is compress all these discs down from a stack of over a couple hundred down onto maybe a single extenal hard drive. Then I can put the physical discs and the system in boxes in the attic somewhere where they are'nt cluttering up my room, and play the games on my computer using emulators and these compressed files I want to use. I know it can be done because I've downloaded games before in this iso and Mp3 format and easily converted the mp3 files into waves and make a cue and mounted it in daemon and played on an emulator. I noticed no difference at all between using mp3s or wavs, except the mp3s take up a fraction of the space. I prefer playing on an emulator for one reason... save states! and also for the convenience of having a less cluttered room i guess. I literally have discs of all sort spilling off of my shelves and out from under my bed with no where to put them.

I downloaded several programs and sometime in the next few days will attempt to use them to get this accomplished. (I'm not at home when i come here, I'm in a lab, so I cant try this stuff out right away).

Thanks for the help everyone, i let you know if it worked out when I get try it.

There will always be crime, murder will always be illegal, but there will always be murders. I dont think there has ever been a law in the history of laws which has completely erradicated the crime it covers. So how is this an argument against legalizing anything?

There needs to be an honest assessment of how much damage is caused by keeping something illegal versus legalizing it. I personally feel that Marijuana should be legalized. Because the "victim" suffers very little harm and has very low chance of indirectly harming someone else. I would be against legalizing heroin, because the victim suffers alot, most likely will become hopelessly addicted, and has a high chance of committing crimes against others while under the effects of the drug.

I would never visit a prostitute, but I think that also should be legalized, for the simple fact that it is your body, and should be your right to use it however you want. There will always be an underground of people with sadistic S&M fantasies wanting to hurt prostitutes or wanting child prostitutes, but what do they have to do with some businessman paying for ordinary sex on a trip? Legalized it would at least be a little safer. (if things like STD testing are used in the regulation, and also with prostitutes then free to call the cops like anyone else if someone is trying to force them into something they dont want.)

I just have a problem with people insisting someone is a victim when they dont agree. To be a victim the damage should be medical in nature, monetary in nature, or at the very least something the "victim" feels very strongly has harmed them. Society should never be considered a victim except in cases where pollution and the environment are involved.

How much better is the compression in 7z format as compared to zip or rar? If its about half as much space I'd seriously consider doing that instead. I'd have to go get a program for that though, the one i have now will uncompress a 7z (albeit very slowly), but will not create 7z files.

I'm not worried about music quality loss, honestly I've re-converted tons of MP3's to Wav and have yet to notice any difference at all. I'm not big on game audio anyway, i usually have music playing on my stereo when I'm gaming.

If it works out what I plan on doing is converting to MP3 once, then compressing the whole thing in a file (zip or rar or 7z or whatever). Then when I want to play it I'll copy that file to my regular hard drive and uncompress it there, leaving the origional compressed file untouched. So there would be one compression to mp3 and back again and thats it. I wont be continuously re-compressing the music after the 1st time.

Although MP3 is lossy, my ears have not been able to notice any difference thus far. Maybe I have tin ears Or maybe the difference is so slight that you have to have perfect pitch hearing to detect it.

Success!
I got it working. What I ended up having to do is use Nero to rip the tracks off the discs, and I had to change the settings to have it do it in ISO and MP3 format. Then I had to make cue sheets and a BAT file to re-convert the audio. I tried it with some SegaCDs, Neo-Geo CDs, TG16 CDs, and Saturn CDs. It really saves a tremendous amount of space. I estimate I'll be able to fit about 50 game CDs on a single blank DVD. It's going to be very time consuming to make all these files, but in a few months when I'm finally done, my entire collection ought to go from a few hundred haphazard CDs to maybe 4-5 DVDs.

I just watched a show about this on Discovery not too long ago. The gist of it was that the real problem is the temperature of the oceans. If they heat up even a few more degrees, this will change the way the ocean currents flow. Most of the temperature on the surface comes from the oceans because water holds heat hundreds of times better than air does. The ocean currents currently distribute heat to places like the UK making it a nice relatively warm place to live despite being very far from the equator. If the ocean currents change and no longer flow warm water up that way, England will become very icy and cold and not habitable for the number of people living there right now, as would most of the Northern USA. Generally what would happen is many places would become extremely cold and icy, while other places would become very hot and dry. Globally crop yields would plumit and the number of people we could feed would fall well below the number of people currently on the planet. This isn't expected to happen suddenly over night, the scientists on that show expected it to happen in 20-40 years if the current trends continue.

ibz10g - It's the message, not the messenger, that's important. The ideas should sink or swim on their own merit regardless of who said them. I did'nt really have a very high opinion of Al Gore either until well after his presidential run, but lately he's been talking alot of sense.

I think the root of the problem is that men and women really are different. I'm not saying either is better, actually i think we compliment and need each other. But many people are scared shitless of anything which is different and they cant (or wont be bothered to) understand. Some men process this fear as mysogyny. It works both ways though, there are also women who dislike men or use men for various things without regard to their feelings. Both genders have people in them who are basically scum. Sometimes people will have bad experiences with the other gender that can cause them to become resentful of the whole gender. I can remember a time in my own life, way back when i was a teenager, when for the 1st and most powerful time i was in love with a girl. I put her on a pedastal, i considered her to be very special. But then i found out after many months of being with her, that she was cheating on me and disrespecting me behind my back. For a while after that i began to think that maybe all those jocks were right about females. Plus, looking around it became obvious that in general the jocks who treated women like shit invariably had very fine girlfriends, while the sensitive guys who would treat women like queens rarely had girlfriends at all. I think that in part this system goes on not just because the insensitive men want it to, but because enough women allow it to. If women treated men who are pigs like their touch was poisonous, and went for the sensitive guys instead, it would'nt be long before all those men would get tired of being alone watching the other guys who they generally make fun of get all the dates. They would have to reconsider their position or would not get a chance to reproduce themselves.

"Course, I dunno if Victim Blaming is as frequent in the case of male rapes or not"

Its at least as common, but comes in the form of "You must have really wanted to do that or you would have easily been able to fight him (them) off because you are a man and men are all automatically big burly warriors", and people will just assume from then on that you are gay.

"What if the rapists were raped? Who says it's bad to wish that upon anyone? What about the person who commits the atrocity? An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, but a sodomy for a rape makes for a heck of a lot less repeat offenders. "

Many of the rapists were raped, usually when they were children. The sodomy thing does'nt hold up either because thats more or less what we do right now and it generally leads to very violent men with a chip the size of the world on their shoulder eventually getting out of prison.

A doctor i once knew told me that it's generally more traumatic to the victim if the attacker is of the same gender, because then issues of their own sexual identity come into question also, along with all the other issues they'd normally be dealing with.
