I've always seen heaven as a rather boring sounding place where nothing fun is allowed and everyone just sits around talking about how wonderful god is. Kind of like a cult brainwashing commune or something. Hell sounds more interesting. All the cool people will be there Really, why would i want to be sitting around wallowing in how great the god is when he allows all this suffering and did all that horrible stuff to us in the past?

If you are very depressed and have no other options than i guess you are stuck with the medication. If it helps you than maybe its for the best. Why are you depressed? Is there some reason for it, or is it a biological thing? If its chemical in nature than you might have to fight chemicals with chemicals to overcome it, but if its related to events in your life then there probably is a better way to deal with it.

Me, I'd go all or nothing, complete freedom or death (well, or disobediance, it does'nt have to be death every time). But i have no desire to kill people, so the idea that i'm limiting my freedom by not being allowed to murder people is purely conjecture to me.

I draw the line at your actions harming other people in a clear and direct way. Outside of that it should be complete freedom with no other restrictions. I'd fight for that.

How high are the taxes in this theoretical? Isn't that exactly what our founding fathers did?

If a law is unjust, the best way to revolt against it is civil disobediance. If enough people are with you you can make a real change. They can only lock up so many people before it becomes too big a burden on them.

If we start adding in all the "round about" ways of harming people it gets ridiculous. For example, if you called me a name, I could claim that you hurt me psychologically. But you should be free to say whatever you want to say, and my feelings being hurt isn't enough to limit your freedoms. If we limit our freedoms over frivolous things soon we cant do anything because somewhere someone is going to claim we are offending them and causing them psychological stress. Maybe i'd make an allowance for if you are stalking someone or following them around for the sole purpose of harassing them, but it should be strictly limited. We should always err on the side of freedom.

If its something different you may as well try it for awhile and then decide whether you like it or not. Maybe it will really help you, its impossible to say if you've never tried it.

In your taxes example it depends. If there was a group of like-minded people willing to fight by my side i would fight. Otherwise i'd just look for ways to not pay the taxes and get away with it, taking the chance that i could get caught. If i did get caught i'd at least be locked up over a cause i believe in.

I was'nt thinking of the racist laws, but they are a good example. Suppose you lived in nazi germany and were required to turn in your neighbors for being jews. Would you practice civil disobediance then, or be law-abiding and turn them in? Unfortunately there are many unjust laws. In my belief the government is in charge wiith our (the peoples) permission. If the government over-steps its bounds it is our right and our duty to take back that permission. Whether i looked unco-operative and reckless or not is of little concern to me, my prime concern would be that i stood up for what was right. If thats something minor than the consequences for standing up would also be minor (jail time is easy, prison time is not).

For me, in a situation where there can be no absolute justice, giving people freedom wins out over taking freedom away. Racism is a complicated issue, no doubt about it. Laws will not get rid of racism, it takes a cultural change.

Does Lucifer rule over hell? Is there even such a place? I dont believe it for a second. That's why i was joking about it earlier.

I read somewhere, a long time ago, that the names Lucifer, Satan, etc. were names they used because they happen to be the same names as some of the deities the people were worshipping at the time outside of christianity (the pagans), and they selected those names to basically smear the name of the pagan's gods and try to convince them that their gods were evil and they needed to switch to christianity. Also as justification for persucating against these pagans (its easy to make people hate a group of people who obviously "worship the devil")

(edit- i remember now that the same source said that lucifer as depicted in the drawings of the time was intentionally made to resemble a certain Greek/Roman deity for the same reason)

For books, I'd reccommend just about anything by Kurt Vonnegut, that is my favorite author. I've never been let down by him, my favorites are "Sirens of Titan", "Cat's Cradle", and "Slaughterhouse-Five". If you like horror books I'd reccomend HP Lovecraft's work, it's the most compelling stuff i've ever read in that genre.

If you want to read something which will shock you, read "The Naked Lunch" by William Burroughs. I read it not too long ago, and it's still very jarring 50 or so years later. But dont read it if you are easily offended or repulsed. If you take it with an open mind it is really very imaginative in an ugly way.

You made a big mistake boy, you are'nt allowed to say that the KKK had any valid points at all, you have to hate them and disagree with everything they say. This thread will probably be closed and you'll be lucky if you are'nt banned. Prepare to be flamed horribly by most of the people on this board.

Why is keeping the minimum wage low a good thing? Maybe if you're rich already that is great, but for the average person, especially people who have to live on the minimum wage, low minimum wage = abject poverty.

I've lived in a lot of small rural towns, and in many of them you are very fortunate if you can find a job which is above minimum wage. Raising the minimum wage would help life tremendously for people living in such towns, especially now with the gas prices being so high.

12-13 hours is too much... there must be a chemical problem, i could'nt sleep that long even if i tried. 10 hours would be great though, I'm lucky to get 8.

I usually stay up till about 5 Am.. I do it because i work best at night when its nice and peaceful, no distractions, no loud noises, nobody bugging me. I can just focus on what i'm doing and get alot done.

If the speed was limited to 55-75 mph, what happens if you have an emergency and need to get somewhere very fast? Like if someone needs rushed to the hospital and you live out in the middle of nowhere?

It's been a good 5 years since i've used an Apple computer, but back then I had a class in the Mac lab at my school. Those computers in there were constantly crashing, practically every day at least one would crash, usually in the middle of something important. This was far more often than the Windows computers crashed. I cant remember a single time that I had a Unix computer crash on me, but that operating system was not very user friendly. Anyway though, I dont know anything about the very latest Mac OS, but I dont buy Apple computers due to bad memories of the past ones, and the fact that just about every program I'd want to use is unavailable on that OS.

So you're saying that if you had a medical emergency and needed to get to a hospital 5 minutes ago, and the nearest one is 20 miles down a rural highway, you'd go 55 MPH. Because that is the law, and its more important than someone you love's life.

Posted on 08-11-06 09:52 PM, in Horrible Dating Advice, anyone? "The times are changin'." Link
It seems like you really dont want advice because all advice which contradicts what you are already doing is obviously faulty. But look at it this way, has what you've been doing worked out for you? Apparantly being super nice and friendly and never kissing anyone is not working for you or you would'nt need advice.

You should just go for it and shoot for a romance instead of a friendship. How many friends do you need? Seems like you have tons of friends but no girlfriend. What you want is a girlfriend, not yet another friend. Take some risks to get one. Try being slightly more bold than you have been. Dont go overboard with it, but make it clear you want a date. If it does'nt work out you've lost nothing, but at least you know you tried and did all you could. The no kissing till marriage thing is very odd and could be a stumbling block for you. I've never yet met a girl who would be cool with that. I've known lots of girls who wanted to wait till marriage for sex, but would probably have left me very quickly if i would'nt kiss them. Most girls will probably think you are odd after the second date with no kiss, and by the third they will automatically start thinking you are'nt attracted to them and are'nt interested in a relationship. I'd think the same thing if the roles were reversed and my girlfriend refused to kiss me.

I'd call an ambulance to, if possible, but that's not always an option. If I ever had a hunting accident back when I used to hunt, I'd have no way to call an ambulance, being out in the middle of nowhere with no phone. Either I or my friend could have bled to death by the time we drove 45 and 55 MPH to the hospital 20 miles away.
