I've always felt up to 10 years is ok, after that i'd be too worried about one of us dying off way before the other. Of course a ten year age difference can cause problems if it goes up against age of consent laws ![]() |

| I could be wrong here, but i could swear i read somewhere that the "shave it and it will grow back thicker" theory was a myth, that it only appears thicker because its all one length now.
Time is probably all you need. When i was 18 i could at best grow a good goatee but nothing else would come in thick enough to be worth it. A few years later i can grow a full beard in a matter of a few days. Sounded cool when i was younger, but now i'm sick and tired of having to shave all the damn time, its a pain! |

Hey, maybe it should go by percentage of your age instead of an absolute number. Maybe somebody could come up with a formula ![]() |

| Kutske- If we cant use personal experience to justify our opinions then what the fuck are we supposed to use? Base them on superstitions? You misunderstand about my parents. I was spanked, not beat, which i thought i explained. There were never any marks or scars left, nothing like that. But when i was a small child that wasn't the point, the point was i was being overpowered and subjected to what seemed like violence to me. My father has been a great father other than that. Hell, he even stuck by me through all the trouble i was in. But it took many years for me to be able to actually talk to him, not really till i was an adult, because as a kid i was just too worried i'd somehow end up doing something wrong and get beat, so i avoided him as much as possible. | |||

Dont have sex till you can handle it. That means wait till you are at least 50, and too old to have kids
seriously though, our ancestors were having kids just as soon as it was physically possible, and our whole race seems to have got on just fine. It does'nt have to be the deepest most meaningful experience of your whole freakin life. Just dont start having babies till you want them, and dont get AIDS. Other than that it's only gonna mess your mind up if you buy into society telling you it has to be super meaningful, or you were somehow abused. (edited by Jomb on 01-07-06 08:49 PM) |

| On this topic, there is an obvious bit of evidence on whether spanking is harming society or not which no one has really gone into much. There are countries where spanking is illegal. If not spanking really causes children to become unruly and to think they can get away with anything, then we'd expect that in these countries the people would be out of control monsters. Is this the case? Seems more like that is the case right here in the USA where we spank our kids and have just about as many prisoners and the rest of the world combined. I'm not saying that there is definately a connection between the two, but i suspect there may be. Obviously we're doing something wrong to have so much crime and so many prisoners. | |||

| I would play Pokemon, because I know nothing about Digimon, and the unknown is more horrifying than the admittedly horrifying Pokemon. Besides you did'nt say how long i'd have to play for, i could just die as quickly as possible.
Would you rather get kidnapped from a third world labor camp and made to dig ditches in the deep south for burying alligator eggs that will hatch a new breed of hyper-gator which will eventually hunt you down and eat you one bite at a time... Or swing on a vine over a never ending pit and then have the vine snap on you and get sucked into an alternate dimension where everyone is completely 100% bald except for you and everyone has the same name? | My least favorite one has'nt been mentioned yet... Awhile ago i bought this PS2 game thinking i'd get a good RPG time out of it, being made by Square and all.. The game is called Unlimited Saga. This is the only RPG i've ever had to force myself to play just so i did'nt feel like i wasted my money, then gave up after about 40 hours of play got me nowhere in the game and it never became interesting like i hoped it might. I could see an occasional kernal of a good or origional idea in it, but it was all greatly overshadowed by the terribly boring and endless random encounters, puzzles which made no sense, and a character improvement system where my characters were regularly worse off after completing an area of the game. Also most of the areas of the game are interchangeable and can seem like endlessly walking through the same shit and getting attacked by the same bullshit monsters. | |||

Would you rather be a janitor.....for SATAN! or go visit your grandma only to discover she had died and become a happy zombie and wanted a kiss? |

| I was just wondering, what is the scariest game you've ever played? Mine used to be the Silent Hill series, but after recently playing Siren, that's changed. As much as I love the Silent Hill series, Siren is just better on so many levels. Resident Evil has never been very scary to me, more startling. | |||

| Kutske - I actually have to agree with you that fundamentalism is a very negative thing. Fundamentalism of any kind, not just christian.
Our culture is not just based on christianity, this is something which certain people want us to believe, but its not really 100% true. Our culture is a very complicated and contradictory mix of puritanism (which came from the early christian fundamentalist settlers), and old world individualism (where the idea of a democracy and freedom come from). On one hand we are pulled in the direction of being controlled by a church and it's "morals" with little regard for freedom, and on the other we are being pulled towards democracy and free-thinking idealism. I never said that spanking is THE cause of crime, i said i suspect it is related. I dont think its the only cause by a long-shot, more like one piece of a big puzzle, but definately a piece. Another piece is probably the reactionary set of laws we have which can criminalize things which have no business being a crime in the first place, and the prison system we have which can take some guy who may have made one dumb mistake and turn him into someone who really is dangerous. Unless you're saying that Americans are genetically more criminal than the rest of the world then there is some other cause for why we have so much crime, and it needs to be blamed so that it can be addressed. I've heard it said that spanking is illegal in Swedan, last i heard Sweden had an unbelievably low crime rate as compared to the USA, and seems healthier all around, maybe there is something we could learn from them? |

| I really like both the 1st and 2nd Silent Hills myself, but they have a couple minor flaws. For example, if i see something really scary, and it starts chasing me, i know i'm safe if i enter a door somewhere or cross the "line" into a new game area. In Siren you cant escape simply by entering a new area, because the entire building or outdoor area or whatever has no loading screens, so no matter where you run to you can conceivable by chased down and found out, makes stealth more important and you have to be more deliberate with your actions. The enemy AI in Silent Hill is passable, but mostly the enemies dont do anything but walk back and forth and then run at you. In Siren each monster has its own thing it's doing independantly.
Silent Hill 3 was less scary to me because of the story line, i found it to be some kind of cheap lovecraft knock-off in that department, though it had cool levels and some of the monsters looked good. I never played Silent 4 (or any later than that if there are any), is it good? |

| I've never played Fatal Frame, but with so many people saying its cool i may look for it next time i buy games.
Rydain - Hey, you live right near me! (at least according to your profile) I dont think i play scary games the same way most people do, ever since being a young child i've loved horror movies, so they dont really scare me in a scream out loud and have nightmares kind of way, it's more like i get more sucked in by the plot with all the heightened tension. I wish they gave me nightmares though, i love having nightmares Silent Hill 2 has one of the best storylines i've ever seen in a game, its one of my favorite games, Siren just beats it out by a hair, and not because the storyline is better, but because of having superior game design. The odd thing about Silent Hill 3 is that i love Lovecrafts writings dearly, but i've never yet seen anyone else successfully mimic his ability to make atmosphere and give me a real feeling of cosmic terror, when SH3 tries to bring up eldar gods and such it just feels forced, and by making the main character something supernatural you lose the feeling of being just an ordinary human up against forces you could'nt possibly defeat. I also think a great horror game should have less emphasis on fighting, because if a monster or situation was really that terrifying then it would take more than guns to deal with it.
Jin Dogan - You looked me up? Jesus on Mars? When i looked me up all i get is some non-english speaking websites of some guy apparently with my name, and information about my most famous hack, PCP. |

| Kutske - It's not just Sweden, virtually every West European Country I've seen information on, Canada, New Zealand, almost all of the developed world. Sweden is just one place where I know spanking is illegal, should we use a different one as an example? How does the size of the US have any bearing on this discussion? Is the crime problem in this country only based on overcrowding? I know thats not true, I've lived in a rural areas. Why do you think its not possible to learn from other people? Hell, even if we tried something out and it ended up not working for us, well at least we tried something instead of just doing nothing as the problem just continues to get worse. We are much more similar to European countries than we are different, most of us came from there you know. So what do you think could be done about these problems then? What we are doing now (harsh sentences with little or no emphasis on rehabilitation, corporal punishment, etc.) is not working at all. | |||

I have'nt played the GC Resident Evil... because i dont have a GC. Is it that much different than the origional? I did enjoy the origional, even though it felt more like an action game with a couple easy puzzles thrown in than a horror game to me. I probably wont be able to play the GC one until the future date when GC is a dead system and is emulated
I have'nt played the latest Silent Hill myself so i dont know if it would be a good starting point. I'd start with 2 if I were you, or 1 would be cool to. The story line for the silent hill games only has the town of silent hill in common as far as i can tell, its not really an ongoing plot between the games. The game play is actually somewhat similar to Resident Evil, but with less emphasis on combat and more on nightmarish settings and puzzles. |

Rydain - I'm about 30 miles from State College, I go shopping there sometimes. I read all of Lovecrafts books many years ago, but he is easily my favorite horror writer. I recently re-read The Whisperer In The Dark because it was so good! I used to really be into the Call of Ctulhu RPG but I lost contact with all my players so I have'nt played it in a long time. I thought the very idea that my girl in SH3 could single-handedly defeat an eldar god was absurd and ruined the horror of it. Actually the biggest problem with SH3 was that they tried to explain everything. SH1 and SH2 were so effective BECAUSE we did'nt know what the hell was going on. The unknown is much more frightening than the known. I forgot how silly that spider in It was *LOL*
I tried SH3 with the puzzles on hard once, and gave up almost right away because i did'nt know enough about Shakespeare to get past the bookstore, and was'nt bored enough to research it. I did think the hidden weapons and outfits you could get were kinda fun the second time through, even though looking like some kinky anime chick with a light-saber completely killed the atmosphere
Hey, how about that Halloween game on the Atari 2600, that freaked me out more than any video game till we got to 32 bits! |
