Just as an FYI, security is only as strong as the user's wits. You can be using OpenBSD and have a very secure system, but things like this can happen:
-User only runs as root (VERY BAD, can kill the system and open security holes)
-Weak password (having "password" as your password generally is not safe at all)
-Not keeping up with updates and patches

Remember that BSD is a UNIX, so flaws that are natural to UNIX systems also apply to BSDs, Linux, etc.

IMHO I'd just use a good Linux distro and have a very strong hardware firewall. Gives those old 486s a use. ;)

A LOOONG while ago I was designing a similar layout... now I've figured out how to do it. ^_^
Based on my current GNOME theme, which is a mix of Opus3 (borders) and Clearlooks-Vega3 (controls)
The tabs are links to sites I visit regularly, the buttons are derived from my sig on MFGG and M:FM.
Comments please, and if you don't know who I am, look at the bio in my profile. :D

Good to see the ExGFX Workshop is healthy. =D
Maybe by the end of the month I'll start making sets again, namely because I'm getting a Windows laptop. :P

It's probably the fact that my host is using his regular PC as a server =/
It'd take me a bit to migrate all the images to ImageShack or something. And there are supposed to be a lot of buttons. Else you hate open source software.

And since I don't want to be killed by an admin so shortly after returning, I'll see about remvong SOME buttons.
EDIT: Done. Used to be 29 buttons below. Reduced to 16. (Took out stuff I actually don't use, heheh)

Hmmm, sounds interesting.
If you need someone to test the libs on a *NIX environment (like Linux), I'm your man. =) Been dying for a Linux-compatable SMW hacking tool...

As an FYI, the list abruptly ends at Super Mario World: Newlands. Did the rest of the list get truncated by accident?

I've done some work on a new ExGFX set on the Windows computer (which, I must add, has restricted use time) and it's comming along nicely. As a hinty about what it is... well let's just say everyone has been wanting one since the dawn of time... well the PHP-based Workshop's time anyway ;D

I told you, I have the ability to mirror the Workshop. Talk to me on MSN so I can get to mirroring the files.

dos someone have ExGFX with windows boxses?

I had a tileset in the works. Well, a rip from Kirby SuperStar. I forget what happened to it, but I should try and see if I can get back to working on it.

If you want a Windows tileset, however, what OS would it be? XP? 2000? 98? You know, something like that...

sorry for the late reply but i did like XP

OR you can wait a little and get Windows Classic...

If there is no background, I could try making one....

Won't really be needed. The background will come with the foreground (foreground is windows, background is icons/desktop)

Have you tried another editor? Tile Molester is really good for a Java-based tile editor.

For me, motivation.
It's not like inspiration. Sure, I can get inspired to do a really neat ExGFX set. But then, partway through, I don't feel like finishing it anymore. It happens at random. Usually I'll get back to it in some time, but if I forget to leave myself ample notes and references... GAME OVER. It's what killed the Chemical Plant set

Posted on 12-18-05 11:10 PM, in PHP-based Streaming MP3 Server... Link
Okay, I decided to try and set up a streaming MP3 server like someone on MFGG did (MFGG: see above and click the tab "MFGG"). I soon remembered - very quickly - that I can't get port forwarding to actually work. So I was left with only a PHP-based option. Now, this would run everything off of a web server. I dunno how this would work, so I looked around freshmeat and found phpcast. I tried it, and it almost killed Kitsune's website (see above and click the tab "Kannagi Stadium") and MikeL's web server (see above and click the tab "h4xopolis"). =/

What would be a good, free streaming MP3 server in PHP? That won't, I dunno, kill web servers? =/

I've got a bit of a request.
See, a while while WHILE back I had posted about any "chuckable" sprite (like a throw block, shell, overturned goomba, baby yoshi etc) shatters upon collision with the Big Boo boss. So I've been thinking, is it possible to isolate the special routines with Big Boo Boss and implement it into an "Always Shatters" block?

So I've been praticing ExGFX work with some tiles made by pucifur27 on MFGG for use in fangames (NOT SMW hacks), and made the ultimate base set. One simple ExGFX file, over 3 pages of Map16. It can be used for many many levels, including:
-Plains
-Woods
-Pipe Maze
-Ice World
-Ice Castle
etc etc.

This will be a set of firsts. This is the first ExGFX set in over a year from the man that founded the Workshop, the first I used slopes, the first I used custom tiles (No rips!), and the first set to need more than one page of Map16 data. Wooo!
I'll package it up later tonight, when the lappy has cooled off.
