First, how do I clear the whole of a level? I saw a keyboard shortcut for this somewhere, I forgot where, though...
Second, how do I place overworld tiles?
Also, I cannot see any graphics other than the Yoshi's Island world graphics.

How do I change the graphics to another world? Your post was not helpful at all about that.

Rather than take time to change all the graphics and get them perfectly right, my suggestion is to:

1) Find a level with the graphic set you want already in place, and edit it.
2) Go to the overworld.
3) Go to 16x16 tile editing mode and click on the level tile you want your level to be at.
4) Go to overworld in the toolbar, and click on modify level tile settings. Pick the level number of the level you modified.

To place overworld tiles, you need to left-click on a tile that is the same as the one you want to place, and then right-click.

I think you've missed the point. I want to use the graphics from another world. For example, the Vanilla Dome graphics in Yoshi's Island.

We have WinXP + default XP IE6.
Our homepage is a special modified search page with links to "kid-friendly" web sites, such as Yahooligans, CBBC News, etc.
It's at least better than the school website, though. It's SO cluttered with animated links and banners. The IT manager here is a complete IDIOT. He's also really mean to everyone.

I'm looking for a good SMB1 editor that works, all those I've tried have had problems.
Mario Improvement: Won't run
SMBUtility: Best out of all of them, but levels have extra enemies for some reason, like Podoboos in 1-4 and Bullet Bills in 1-3
YYEdit (I think its called that): Clumsy controls and it's hard to edit levels
Where can I get a better editor? Preferably, one that works with SMAS SMB.

Okay, thanks, I thought it was a bug in the editor.

Are these possible in SMB1 for the NES?
1. Map screen like in SMB3
2. Extra levels - I've seen it done somewhere but I don't know how
3. Changing the title screen graphics
4. Changing the Bullet Bill graphics
I know the BB graphics should be in the ROM, but I cannot find them anywhere (except for the BB cannon).

Is it just that I'm crap at playing YI or it's impossible to finish these levels? I can't get past the Welcome level. The place with the "1" after the Shy Guy-factory pipe stops me from going further.
I used the Start-Select trick someone described, and I got to 1-1 but I can't get past the pinball thing.

...well, I deleted a few sprites and stuff, and really it's not that hard to get through, methinks, 'cause I'm none too skilled with an emulator's controls (can't even wall jump in Super Metroid...)

I'll fix the crossections though, thanks GY...

It's not too difficult. I couldn't get past 1-1 in the real YI.

Edit: I finally found out you could use eggs to smash the wall!

I'm making my second SMB1 hack (first was some experiments with YY-CHR and SMBUtility) and I thought I would post it here.
So far, I have these edited:
* SMB3 Mario players (not done by me)
* Text has shadows
* Some text changed
* New numbers
* New Question Blocks
* Bricks look 3D, "broken stone" floor changed
* Levels 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 edited
* Goombas have a little "hair"
Some screenshots (Outdated, I'll make new screenshots when I make a major update to the hack):

The IPS patch can be downloaded here:
http://www.boredom.1.vg/smbhacks/jouwsmb2.ips
Enjoy my hack...

You should really fix your graphics. They're quite bad. Your underground blocks look decent enough, but that's about it.

Cases in point:

The green slash and the L shaped eyes on the clouds and bushes
The frequently disappearing light green bush outline
The incredibly ugly yellow and green smiley flag
Your thin numbers
The battlements on the castles which are too tall
The ?-turned-! block, which looked poor in the original but looks worse with thinner lines and shapes
The square coins

I've fixed the green slash, removed the faces on clouds and bushes, changed the flag to an "M" for Mario, and shortened the battlements.
What's wrong with the ! block and numbers?

The new version is: http://www.boredom.1.vg/smbhacks/jouwsmb2.ips

Edit: Just noticed!
1-3 has a strange bug - There is a question block high up with some coins and a lift going up, but for some reason it never appears again once it's gone up once. Just jump over the hole - you won't be able to get the mushroom/fire flower in the ! block.

Edit2: Made a spoilers, tips and hints page. http://www.boredom.1.vg/smbhacks/spoilers

I once saw an IPS patch that changed the SMB1 Mario to SMB3 Mario graphics. I can't find it again, does anyone know where it is?

I made a patch that did so some months ago. You can get it here. You might want to read the readme for some details. Enjoy.

Thanks a lot
However, for some reason, I can jump over the flagpole with the SMB3 Mario. Is this a bug?
Also, I tried the "Start Big" hack on your site and after finishing a level or entering a pipe, Mario returns to normal Big mario, whether he is Fire Mario or Small Mario. Is this a bug?

The numbers look rigid and thinner than the letters. It's like something an 8 year old would whip up in Microsoft paint before she realizes what the "T" button is there for.

The ! block really just looks bad when the shining background fades to the same color as the exclamation point. Then all you can see is a shadow. I debated adding this, since SMB's ? mark boxes had this problem too. But I think your shadow looks a little worse because it's straight, and if you designed a question/exclamation mark box that didn't have this problem at all that would be really cool.

I made a new question block:
(See attachment for picture)

Edit: Grr, the attachment doesn't show up. Posting picture in a minute: http://www.boredom.1.vg/smbhacks/spoilers/9.png

Is there a level editor for the SMB1 portion of Super Mario All-Stars?
I've seen a SMAS hack so I know there should be one. Zophar's site doesnt have one and Google only brings up reviews of SMAS.

Fins out where the level data you want ends and begins, and copy that over into the clean ROM.

How do I do that? I'm only familiar with SMBUtility, LunarIPS and YY-CHR..
