Does killing Dracula automatically end the game? I've never tried, I've moved the other bosses with no problems, it's as easy as coping the graphics to the other level and changing the enemy that appears in the boss room.

I could not, however, add a boss to level 6, I'm not sure why.

You don't understand, you can play the game in English and this version fixes bugs that were in the US version.

I think I got the game to let me fight a boss on the bridge, it's inside the clocktower that is wasn't working properly. I haven't touched Retold II in a while now, needed a break, so I'm not really sure anymore.

Dr. Mario: That's definitely the graphics, you must've copied them to the wrong place, I replaced level 1-3's bosses fine.

Most tile editors support loading palettes from savestates, make a savestate in-game when the character you want is on screen and load it in the editor, then you can scroll through all the palettes in that state.

While the story itself (sans plotholes) will remain the same the dialog is all being rewritten, taking the best parts from the two available translations and mixing with my own flair. Overall its longer than the original (yet compresses better...), gives expanded details, fills plotholes, uses better grammar, sounds natural (The one thing missing from a certain fan translation...), and is, I hate to boast, better than anything currently available.

Rather than screenshots (Which I'm too lazy to grab right now), I quote some dialog:

Biggs: There's Narshe...

Wedge: I can't believe they found
an esper there; it's been over a
thousand years since the
War of the Magi...

Biggs: Is it still alive?
Wedge: I've heard rumors that it is,
but nothing official.

Biggs: Why's this sorceress
with us?

I heard she killed fifty of our
soldiers riding MagiTek Armor in
under three minutes...
Scares me just thinking about it.

Wedge: Bah, that rumor again, she
only killed three soldiers that were
secretly supporting the Returners.

Besides, that Slave Crown on her
head stops conscious thought,
she'll follow our orders.

Girl: ...

Wedge: We'll attack from the East.
Move out!

Also, you might be interested to know that each "scene" of the opening prologue now uses two text boxes, which might not sound too good but I like the effect it gives.

Agreed for the most part, some of his name changes seem pointless but reading interviews it seems like it wasn't always his fault. The funny thing is one little change, decapitalizing all the NPC names in the dialog, saves a ton of space in the script.

Have you fixed the infamous 'frightful dragon' and 'monopoly on the treasure under the stairs' mistakes? Those were the only two tings Ted was genuinely wrong on, IIRC.

I'm not that far in my rewriting yet but trust me, they'll be fixed.

Speaking of rewriting, maybe I should start getting screenshots of the typos and start a blooper reel...

Locke: Thanks, moogles! We own you one!

Terra: Aren't you a scholar?
Scholar: Yes, yes I am, but any
sane man knows magic does not
exist, it's just a fairlytale...
Terra: ...

Merchant: Hey! You're going to
steal MY wine?! You're nothing but
a pretty thief!

Sailor: This shit ain't leaving port.

Terra: He's your brother?! I
thought he was a [thing]!

Okay, that last one wasn't a typo, just a placeholder Leno and I found hilarious

Edit: Oh the irony, I just had to fix a typo in one of the typos...

Posted on 06-10-06 04:06 AM, in So, is there a text editor for FF7 anywhere out there? Link
FYI this is the main page of Ficedula's Homepage. Qhimm's is here and you'll want to check out Qhimm's forum as well.

The PC version generally goes for about $10, many of the pirated versions available online are supposedly "enhanced" versions that don't function properly with the tools/hacks available, although you can try seaching any torrent site for a normal copy if you're that determined to get it for free.

Before someone says the PC version sucks, yes, out of the box it does, but with the hacks available I can get it running as good as the PSX version. There are patches to fix most of the problems, enhance the graphics (beyond those of the PSX version), use PSF music, and a few difficulty rebalancing hacks.

Changing sprites is simple, in the map editor there are three pulldown lists, the first is the sprite number (You can have 16 per map), the second is the sprite itself (Which you already figured out how to edit in FFHackster Companion), the third is the graphic that sprite uses.

I'd just subtitle it or something. Does your hack have a name? You should have a name for it, even if it is just something simple like "the_icepenguin's Zelda II Hack."

From what I hear a popular method is to mess with FCEUXD's NES memory editor, I've never tried it myself. Most maps I've dealt with use simple RLE for compression, they have a tile number followed by how many of that tile to print.

Alright, here are some samples of dialog, I tried to capture some of the better lines without spoiling the whole beginning of the hack (Which I probably did anyway...)

Don't worry, there won't be too many scenes like this:
