I keep all of my icons in my start menu. I usually have a lot of stuff open, so getting back to my desktop is a pain, if I need to open something. I love the simplistic ..drama of this picture, I guess, and the angle of the photo is neat. I just linked the picture, since the only difference would be a small line at the bottom. >> Hope that's okay. xD; |

I suppose when people work with anything dangerous, especially unpredictable wild animals, it's almost just a matter of time before something awful can happen. | It wasn't really that big of a deal for me. That may sound kind of.. callous, but ..yeah. I didn't even know what the World Trade Center was. heh. When someone said that the WTC was hit by a plane, I was just kind of like "..uhm.. o..kay? >>" Once I knew what it was, and what had happened, it was shocking, and sad, and all that.. but it didn't really hit me too terribly hard. I cried because of the sheer number of people that died, because it was incredibly tragic.. but then, I usually do when I hear about things like that.
Living in New York now, it's a bit different for me. Like Xkeeper said, I could probably happily rip my ears off at hearing another segment on the tragedy and whatnot.. It's EVERYWHERE, and you can't get away from it. ..well, except by ..not turning on the tv, radio, or whatever. heh. But of course everywhere I go, someone's listening to it. It annoys me, but at the same time.. I went to a museum in Albany about a year ago, and they had an exhibit about 9/11/01. I couldn't believe what some of the things looked like.. completely unrecognizable, in some cases. I went with my boyfriend and his mom, and they were really ripped up, walking around and looking at things. They lived pretty close to the WTC when they went down, and one thing they say they remember the most is the smell. Their car was covered in a few inches of dust and ash, and as they put it "You try not to think about what was in that dust." The air wasn't clear for months afterward, I hear. I think anyone that was there, or near, or involved in any way.. they have the right to be sad, and upset, and.. everything. Things like that mark your life. However, I do think that people need to move on, in the sense that.. yes, it happened, and yes, it was awful. But life isn't over, and it isn't the end of the world, no matter how much it may feel like it to the people who lost friends and family. Five years later, you need to be able to function beyond your grief. I don't agree with how 9/11 was used to twist people's opinions on a lot of political (and other) issues, but I know that's an automatic part of any big tragedy, really. .. I try not to get into political discussions, so I'm just going to leave that.. at that. I think that 9/11 was a big deal, and it's important to remember all the people that were lost, but I also think that we should be able to move on with our lives without being completely bombarded with it, and.. whatnot. Sure, have a memorial day for it. Have a segment on the news. Whatever. But not 24 hours of the day, and for weeks surrounding it. If they want to make some symbol for it, like.. poppies for Rememberance day, or whatever, that'd be fine too. But hammering it all back at people all over again.. eh. It might be cathartic for people who've gone through it, but it's .. I don't know. I just don't think it's healthy. .. If I continue, I'll just ramble and not make sense. So. .. Yeah. |
