Geez, that was a while ago, almost 2 years ago...

I remember being interested in roms and hacking, and naturally, rom hacking. And Incidentally, Mario Rom Hacking. Google led me here, and after a month or so I signed up. I never was that active, and disappeared after about two months.

I showed up again after almost a year for about a week, then disappeared again for a year, (This week was a month or so after the first reset)

And now, today, I'm back (after ANOTHER reset). Incidentally, I'm not sure why I decided to come back...

Yeah, and I'm not interested in rom hacking much anymore, i just play roms every once in a great while.

I can't believe nobodys mentioned Morrowind. Good graphics, and high points for ultimate openness. Haven't played it in a while tho (I'm waiting for the next in the series, Oblivion).

Other good ones include:

SMRPG
Paper Mario 1 + 2
Final Fantasy 7 (only one I ever played )

I actually hate that world. I am horrible at playing world 7 on Super Mario Bros. 2. The conveyor belts were cool but still... argh. Also, that eagle head scared the **** out of me the first time I played that level.

World 7 seems to be the unlucky one out of all the classic Mario games.

It scared me too, I think I was only 8 or 9 the first time I got that far. I think it gave me a nightmare or two

Anyways, its a really tough decision between SMB3 and SMB2. But since SMB2 was a bit short, and only a few months ago did I beat SMB3 on GBA, I guess I'll vote for SMB3.

Really, I think that SMB2 was fun... for a while. SMB3 had long-lasting fun factor.

I guess I play most games the way they were "intended" to be played.

But I remember playing Driver 1 in free drive mode, purposely trying to repeatedly get cops on my tail and then lose them. Mainly I drove as far across the map as I could, "sightseeing" because I just couldn't do well at the missions.

Ironically, the games I love the most are relatively open, like The Sims, for people to play any way they want.

I mean, 3D aint something that always makes a game better. I mean, tou can't say SM64 was better than SMB3 or SMW. right?

Sonic Rush does look very nice indeed. Alot Better than Shadow the Hedgehog in my personal opinion.

This may be a bitt off-topic, but I have to say that I always thought 3D mario was on equal standing with 2D. Maybe a little better, but certainly not worse. On the other hand, the 3D Metroid games drove me crazy.

Anyways. I haven't heard much of Sonic Rush, but I say 2D or 3D, I don't really care. It's gameplay that counts.

My mom got a bit upset at a family party we were at last night, and in her emotional state she announced that her doctors think she may have leukemia. And man, that's causing me to get really bummed out.

Oh, and this morning we heard that my aunt, who was hosting the party and had gotten drunk and emotional herself, attempted suicide by sleep pill/asprin OD. She's in the hospital right now.

Real fun weekend i had, don't you think?

Hmm... I guess I haven't heard of that one yet, I may have to get it for my birthday in May. Because for Christmas, all I want is a new PC. I think it's like $450 and then you need a HD and a fan and OS, so it's more like $550. I forget the specs but it's from tigerdirect.com. My parents don't exactly have a lot of money to spend on me, but since I'm putting at least $200 of my own cash into it... Well, hopefully I'll get it.

I use keyboard to scroll, sometimes, but usually I use my super-cool scrollwheel.

I do use PageUp/PageDown when I'm scrolling a long distance, though.

Hmm... Here it is for old stats...

Wasn't that active, my most memorable stat is "0.04 posts/day" . I only posted 22 posts in the, umm, about year and a half I was here. I've already posted 8 or 9 times in the 2 or 3 days I've been on the new board...

Yeah, she's always telling me to be optimistic, and I'm so busy doing NaNoWriMo and other things that's it's been at the back of my mind. They're doing some confirmation tests tomorrow, so hopefully then I'll know for sure...

And my aunt... Well, earlier in the party she was upset because one of my other aunts (I have a lot of aunts) never comes to the party because she wants things to go her way. Or something. It seems to be something like a family feud of sorts. I'm sure hearing my mom's news didn't make her any happier, though.

As far as being optimistic, about 4 years ago this month my dad and little brother were in a 1-car accident. They're both okay now, so looking back on it both helps me be optimistic and puts this hurt in perspective: I've been through worse before.

Overall, I know things will be okay. I'll update again once info from tomorrows tests comes back.

I haven't used that particular program, but I'm pretty sure [E] stands for "English" and not "Europe". As for the other problems... Sorry, I have no clue.

Bah. I'll be turning 16 on 5/12, but due to laziness with getting my permit, I can't get my juniors license until sometime in October...

Back when I first joined, I was 14, but not really active. Still, I thought I was young back then...

Hey Rydain. I too participated and won nanowrimo. For being 15 and having other homework to do as well it's quite an accomplishment! My rough draft is in my sig. Just as an FYI, I don't have an actual website... yet. Only the novel's up. Anyway, hopefully I'll be doing this again next year, and maybe mine will be more exciting then.

Posted on 12-06-05 05:59 PM, in [non-public domain/free] ROMs, legality, and ethics/morals Link
I can think of a few ways to solve the legality dilema:

a) All roms are considered illegal and strictly enforced. Most people won't have roms, a few will, and nobody will be happy about it except the developers, who still don't gain that much in sales because of it.

b) Roms are considered illegal, but it's not strictly enforced. People get roms, and developers aren't happy (this is the current solution.)

c) Roms for systems more than X years old are considered public domain. (I think six-seven's a good number, it would allow NES, SNES, GB, GBC roms). People still get most of the roms they want, and developers still get most of their revenues.

d) Individual companies decide when they feel their games are public domain, and release roms themselves. The developers are perfectly happy; for example, Nintendo could choose not to release a certain mario game if they knew they were going to port it soon. People would get roms directly from the companies' websites and be mostly happy.

IMO, everybody wins with option D, but option C seems more likely. Sadly, I think we'll be stuck with A or B for quite a while...

Posted on 12-10-05 09:55 PM, in I am not as enthusiastic about the internet as i was before. Link
I get your point, Thayer, but I and several other people aren't just going to "get over it" because it really is annoying. I can tolerate typos and AOL-speak in chatrooms, but in message boards, where you have plenty of time to think, it just makes you look immature to rush a post in that way.

Yeah, internet bullies are pretty much like bullies in real life, but at least in real life they're easier to avoid and a lot less common. If someone's a bully in real life, they generally get strict punishments, like being fired, jail fines, and the like. But on the internet, the most we can do is ban them from one message board or chat room, which leaves them about 9999 left.

As far as noobs go, I'm relatively forgiving, since it wasn't long ago that I was one. I can tolerate what some people consider stupid questions, but they should know better than to flame somebody they don't really even know. Ah well. If noobs had patience to read rules and regulations, and if everybody were nicer, the world would almost be perfect.

But then we wouldn't need Walgreens.

Well, I use lololol, for several reasons. Stability and spyware/virus protection, certainly. Tabbed browsing is another plus, though I heard the latest IE has it now. And for the customizability. I'm not using many extensions right now, but hope to add more at some point.

Oh, and... *adds Acmlms board to bookmark toolbar*

Posted on 12-11-05 09:48 PM, in Selective short attention span? Link
I was just wondering, if anybody else seems to have a short attention span for one particular thing. For me, even though I love video games, I get bored of one particular game rather quickly. This is most noticable on the internet, where there's always the temptation to download something free to try it out. In fact, I just downloaded two.

Anyway, does anyone else have some short attention span thing like that? It's not too annoying, except that I've really only beaten 2 or 3, even though I've played hundreds...

I visit only now, but I found the law without much difficulty. I shall allow a small spoiler: What you don't want to add is hard to avoid. If you try, you can post things that sound normal, so grammar is not a part of this law. Nor is punctuation.
