I found something interesting today and last night. Last night, I downloaded a corruptor and started corrupting the ROM between the addresses $70000 and $A0000. The game plays normally except for one major difference. There is no sight of Tails or Knuckles. That's right, the disappeared from the face of the island when I corrputed it with random bytes.

I further investigated it today by limited it to $70000 to $80000. Tails and Knuckles still appeared. Then I tried from $80000 to $90000 and Tails only disappeared but not Knuckles. Narrowing it down again, I tried $87500 to $90000 and Tails disappeared. If you try to corrupt between $80000 and $87500, both of them will still appear. Also, when you approach the area where Tails is at in Green Grove Zone Act 2, the game will freeze. We should take a look between the offsets $87500 to $A0000. I corrupted the game by changing most of the bytes to 00 and 01 instead of random bytes.

Before I forget, I heard a disassembler is a better tool for hacking instead of a corruptor. I've been researching for a good one that is free but had not much luck. Do you guys know of any decent disassemblers that are free?

@ Tanookirby: Meh, either one would have worked. It was close enough. Since you did guess on that and the one you got correct recently, that means no more guessing until someone else posts.

It's better if we found out how to edit the level layout through a hex editor before moving on to making an editor. Right now, we don't know too much about editing the level layout.

Yeah close enough. It's really called the Blue Shield but it protects you from lighting in that level.
