Read about this a couple days ago, and I find it rather interesting, but at the same time pointless, as I've never used a Mac, let alone one with an Intel processor Heck. I've only seen a Mac in front of me once in my life, but I suppose that's trivial. The thing I find rather funny is that right after this competition was finished, Apple releases something that does the same job themselves, except a whole lot easier to work through _¬
Just a thought here, but might this be better suited for Hardware / Software? I'm not trying to imply that you posted it in the wrong forum or anything, but it just seems to me like it'd fit better there than here in General Chat
Anyways, have fun installing Half-Life 2. That's not the first thing that comes to mind of what people want to install as soon as they get their computer set up and working, but at the same time, I suppose there's nothing wrong with it ![]() |

Funny, of all the times I've shaved (and by that I mean walking into the bathroom, finding a razor that looks reasonably clean (but no doubt used by my brother and Dad at least a couple times before), and going to work), I can't recall cutting myself much, if at all The only time that does come to mind was on the lower side of my chin, but it was only a small cut, and holding a small wad of toilet paper over the area was enough to stop the bleeding after 10 minutes or so.
I'm not sure exactly what kind of blades they are, but seeing as I was bored one night, and read the back of the box for them, I found out that new blades have a blue strip on top of them (and they do), which, when it fades, you should take that blade out and replace it with a new one. Unfortunately, the past couple of times I've shaved, I haven't checked for the blue strip until after I was done, and then found out that it was faded completely That and the fact that if I don't scrub my face with a damp washcloth, or have a shower beforehand, it literally feels like I'm pulling the hair out of my face
I did try getting my face shaved by a barber before, which went pretty much flawlessly, now that I think of it, but unfortunately, the only time they would do that is after you'd gotten a haircut (why they'd have their rules set up that way is beyond me), and they started charging more than I was willing to pay if I wanted my hair cut, so now a friend of my Mom's does it, and I shave on my own
My sister likes to leave her disposable razors in the shower, of all places, with the caps off, which isn't very good, considering it'd be easy to knock one of the shelf by bumping it or something, then with a bit of bad luck, you could end up stepping right on the thing Thankfully, that hasn't happened yet, but either my Mom or Dad (she won't listen to anyone else) needs to tell her to throw the things out after she uses them. After all, isn't that what's intended to be done with the things once they've been used? |

| I assume she's figured out they can be used more than once, as, from what I've seen, she doesn't go through them too quickly, but the main problem with her leaving them in the shower is that she might use them once or twice, leave that one sitting on the shelf, then get a new one. Therefore, if you find the oldest razor on the shelf, and take a good look at the blades, you can see just what wonderful condition they're in. Heck. The one time I collected all the disposable razors in the shower, I found about 8. That's the thing I have the problem with.
Anyways, the only time I picked one up to look at it closely, there were small bits of hair jammed in between the blades (as in, enough that you couldn't see through them), and the metal on a whole was turning rusty, or at least it looked like it
Apparently they need to be literally falling apart before they can be thrown out, in her eyes
I know that may seem a bit mean, but when you consider that there's a garbage not even two steps away from the shower, she could at least make the effort to throw the old ones out ![]() |

Let me ask you this question, KATW. If you're not going to call it a sleep over (and if you don't sleep, it doesn't really make sense to call it that), then what name would you use for it? A while ago now, me and a friend started asking each other if we wanted to stay the night at the other person's house. It doesn't imply that you're going to sleep at all, and it still sounds decent
At times, I don't even understand why we use that though. Up until last week sometime, he was reluctant to come over to our house for the night, as we didn't have an internet connection, and he wouldn't be able to play Xbox Live (he admitted that himself). After that, the other day at work, I'd just finished handing out a customer's order, and turned around to have him ask me a question. He wanted to know if next time he came to our house, whether he'd have to bring his own ethernet cable for his 360
Anyways, sleep. The last time I can remember pulling an all nighter was a couple weeks ago, on Saturday. I was originally scheduled to work from 8 or 9 at night to close, which is at least 4 in the morning. However, I got called in at 5. Apparently they were short on staff, and needed somebody to come in. When I arrived, I was told that I would be there until 10. I figured that wasn't too bad, as 5 hours is shorter than most of the shifts I'm given. After the supper rush was over, however, Shelia (one of the managers there) told me they needed me to close. Earl (the general manager) said that he wouldn't blame me if I said no, seeing as it was indeed a long shift (5 in the afternoon to 5 in the morning), but I agreed, as I figured the money would be worth it, and I didn't have any plans for that night anyways. Long story short, we finally closed, everyone got a ride home, and I sat down at the computer. I don't know why, but I didn't get tired enough to go to sleep until 2pm. Even then, I only ended up sleeping 'till 7
The longest I've ever gone without sleep (at least that I can remember) was a couple days. The first day had been a friend's birthday, and given that he got several games as gifts, everyone there was busy playing or watching someone else play those all night, as opposed to sleeping. The next day, I had some sort of dentist appointment in the morning, and I couldn't very well have gotten any sleep, as if I did, I'd have slept straight past it. After that, I went home, and wandered around (I felt too drained to do anything else), ate supper (I don't know how I can remember, but it was broccoli soup), and went to bed around 9 at night. For the most part though, the only reason I stay up late now is either because I have to work, or I'm just used to being up early in the morning because of working so many closes. There's nothing really stopping me from pulling an all-nighter, but I try not to, unless I have a reason for doing so. |

| I've still got it in a folder on my desktop, although I don't know how old it is, and therefore whether it's the most recent version released before CG-Games disappeared. Anyways, I've zipped up the folder, so provided there's no registry entries or such that are required (the only ones I can find in a search were created by Restore Desktop), simply unzip this file to whatever folder you like, and try loading it.
Good luck ![]() |

| This is purely a guess, but check what version of DirectX is in your computer. You can do so by clicking "Start", "Run", then typing "dxdiag" in the box that appears. Depending on what version of DirectX is installed on your computer, you may or may not see a window like this. Regardless of whether you do or not.
Find the version of DirectX you've got installed, by looking for some text like what's outlined in that picture. If it's anything lower than DirectX 9.0b, you're going to need to update it. You can do so by going here (there's a link to that in the RTMK readme, but it doesn't work for some reason ). Even if the text says "DirectX 9.0c", try downloading and running the file from that site anyways, as nobody knows if something could've gotten messed up in the time between whenever it was installed, and right now.
As much as I'd like to say I am, I'm not really sure that'll do much, if anything at all, as if it was indeed a DirectX related problem that you're having, it makes sense to think that the game wouldn't load at all, much less get to the title screen and crash
Anyways, it's worth a try, but if that doesn't work, I'm stumped ![]() |

| First off, I recommend you do one (hopefully) simple thing. Download lololol, install it, and give it a try for a couple days. After you get a feel for how things have to be done in that browser as opposed to Maxthon, you should have a pretty good idea of how it's going to work for you in terms of being easy to use. Chances are it'd take a bit of getting used to, but after that, it shouldn't be too bad.
When it comes to the security side of things, the only bit of information I was able to find against Maxthon was the following: "The IE core, by definition, would make Maxthon more suceptible to spyware or virii exploiting it since that's what the malware is designed to exploit." I'm sure lololol still has a problem or two that have gone unnoticed as well though
I haven't yet had any security related problems yet with lololol, but it's worth mentioning that lololol is the only browser that gets used on this computer. No others, except for Internet Explorer, but that's only if I run across a page that will only display properly in it. Overall, I'd recommend lololol, but I really can't, seeing as that's pretty much the only browser I've used for a while now The main thing you can do right now is, as I already said, download it, and give it a try to see which you like / which one suits your needs better ![]() |

| I chose the first option.
There's not much to say other than that. I just never saw the need / never had the want to smoke, and I really can't see that changing any time in the future
Not to mention that's completely setting aside the fact that even if I did want to do it, I wouldn't have the first clue as where to get some I know what sort of people you'd go to, but I don't know any people like that. |

I'd consider it just that - a bad day There are some times I start up StepMania, and load a song I usually do pretty good on in terms of accuracy, and yet I can't do half as well as I did last time I played it. The next time I start up StepMania and play that song, I can do just as well as I usually can. The main point is: don't worry about it too much
As for what you posted, DahrkDaiz, congratulations, I guess I've only tried doubles mode very frequently before, and using a keyboard, at that. I found it difficult enough trying to play the game with my right hand on the arrow keys and the left on the number pad (causing my arms to be crossed over), let alone trying to use my left hand on the arrow keys, when I've done that all of once or twice up 'till now
According to the clock in the taskbar though, it's after 2 in the morning, so it's about time I was heading to bed ![]() |

In all honesty, I didn't even realize you'd been away from the board until I read this thread I don't mean for that to sound mean or anything, so hopefully it doesn't It's good to see that you were able to solve your problem though
Have fun with your spree later, although chances are it's going to happen while I'm at work. I suppose that can't really be helped though. Anyways, it's good to see you back, and hopefully next time you have a problem with your connection, you'll have a better idea of what could be causing the problem. |

| The past couple posts about food and sleep have reminded me about my own experience with that particular combination.
The night it happened, I'd brought a couple rice-krispy squares up to my room, as I'd planned on eating them before I went to sleep. Note that they were wrapped, so it wasn't exactly simple to get them open. I ended up eating one of them, and set the other on the table in front of my bed, then got to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, the wrapper for the other square was on the floor, with nothing in it. Somehow, I'd managed to find and open the package, and eat the entire square all while I was asleep
Even now, I can still remember just barely waking up sometime early in the morning, and I could tell I had some sort of food in my mouth, but before I was able to realize what it was, I fell back asleep. That may not seem particularly interesting, but I found it pretty odd, as it's the only time anything like that has ever happened. Of course, the same thing could've happened in the past, except I didn't realize it had occurred Anything's possible.
Anyways, it's been about 2 hours since I got back from a very frustrating shift at work (meaning I got stuck on drive-through again, and there were way too many dishes to wash) so I should be getting to sleep. 5:22 in the morning isn't too bad ![]() |

It's not too often that I ever have string cheese readily available, as I'd have to buy it myself, and even then, there's a chance that other people in the house would get into it Dividing it into smaller and smaller strings is rather amusing, but given that fairly large fingers, I can only get them so small before they just get squished
I still remember seeing commercials on TV for them a while back, showing various designs and such made from them (now that I think of it, they were on the backs of some of the packages as well), and although I tried and tried to create a copy of whatever figure, I never could get it quite right
The first couple times I saw the commercials / packages, I asked my Mom to buy some next time she went grocery shopping. She did, but they ended up being the No-Name brand, which, for whatever reason was not flexible enough to have strings pulled off of it. I was disappointed about that, but still, I was only 12 or so at the time, so it's explainable
The only other thing I can remember about those right now happened, oh, say 4 or 5 years ago now. My Mom, brother, sister, and me were heading somewhere in the van, discussing what we'd want to save our money for. My sister said something about getting a computer (no, we didn't have one back then), my brother about getting a GBC or something, and I can't remember what my Mom said. My choice was a bit different though. I wanted to save up enough money to buy a pack of cheese strings, which I'd share with everyone, depending on how much I liked them at any point in time. Yeah. Something that doesn't even cost $5, and I have to save money to buy it
That's about all I can think of to say about those things right now though. |

Chances are my score won't have changed much from the result I posted in the thread dealing with this on the old board, seeing as nothing's changed in this computer, except for the available hard drive space slowly decreasing I'll give it another try when I get home from work this morning and see if anything changes though.
As for specs, I have enough time to post them right now, so here they are: :: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ :: nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (128MB) :: 512MB of RAM I plan on either upgrading or getting a new computer within a year though, so it'll be interesting to see how things change then ![]() |

| The only one I've ever used is Jasc Animation Shop 3 (yes, I know the program is rather old), but that requires to to either pay for registration after a certain amount of time, or find some way to bypass the "your trial time is up" screen, so it wouldn't work for you.
After doing a quick google search for "free animated gif makers". This link led to a site with information about a program called "UnFREEz". I downloaded it, and put several .gif files into the list, and it seems to work alright (although there's no previewing function, so you'll have to save the file then open it to see what it looks like), so you could give that a try
Looking a bit further, this site has another gif animation program that might be of use to you. It includes a previewing function as well, so it might be worth a look. Note that both of those programs just have to be unzipped, or even run from inside the zip file - you don't have to install anything.Hopefully one of those two is of use to you ![]() |

I found this out after trying to post something in Hardware / Software. I was wondering why I was being told my username or password was wrong, and then noticed it was listed as "Karadur-kitty" up at the top of the page Now it's changed back again I suppose it's not doing any real harm to the board though, so I'd have to say I find it rather funny, if anything at all.
Edit: And while we're at it, what's with some of the usernames not appearing at all (last registered user, last post made in General Emulation and such). I assume it's something to do with the cat thing, but I don't see why it'd make the names disappear completely ![]() (edited by Karadur on 04-14-06 06:22 PM) |

I imagine it'll change back once Xkeeper or whoever else figures out just how this happened. Either that, or you could try sending a PM to an admin asking them to change your name back. I don't see why that wouldn't work
For the time being though, I'm going to say you are going to have to remember that number. After all, it is your current username. |

We've had all of two swingset sort of things in our backyard in the past. The first one was red and white, and had a whopping three swings on it Unfortunately, two were simply attached with chains, so they were tangled up quite a few times, and eventually just broke off. Not to mention the part you sat on was made of plastic We got rid of it not only because it didn't get used enough, and it was breaking, but also because just swinging back and forth on the remaining one was enough to cause the posts holding the thing into the ground to actually rise up above the grass
The other was a decently sized wood structure, with a sandbox on the bottom, and a snug room on the top. There was a wood swing hanging from it, but it hardly ever got used, as the part you were supposed to sit on was way too small. I never did find out what happened to it, but it's no longer in our backyard. I'm assuming it was taken down because we didn't really use it alot. As of right now though, the closest park to our house is about a 5 minute walk away. There used to be another one at a school about the same distance from our house, that had more playground equipment than you could ever ask for, but it was all taken down. I really don't know why, but all the parks here are slowly being taken town, and having the exact same equipment put in each one. Rather boring if you ask me. I realize that may have been due to safety reasons (rusty equipment, etc.), but I figure the parks would get alot more use if they varied the equipment for each one. The only other memory I have of using any type of playground equipment was at a park near my Uncle's old house in Wingham. It had a larger than normal slide that I desperately wanted to ride on (I wasn't very old at the time, so chances are it may have been smaller than it actually looked), but I couldn't bring myself to climb the ladder up to the top. Thus, I made numerous attempts to climb up the slide from the bottom, but only got about a quarter of the way each time due to other people going down it as well
That's about all I can remember for now though ![]() |

Originally there was just a small amount of text under the banner that said something like "looking for Acmlm? try StarlightRO" with a link to the page. After Sonicandtails posted this thread, the link got changed to about:blank, and the text was actually changed as well, but I can't remember what it said About 10 minutes or so after that, it got replaced with a rainbow-ish version of the banner above (it can be seen here, then several minutes after that, it changed to the gold version you can see now
As for what you posted, Sonicandtails, I have a feeling the direct cause for the banner being up there with your name under it is because you put up a fuss about the text link to StarlightRO in the first place I wouldn't worry about it too much though. It makes sense to think that the normal banners will be back soon enough ![]() |

You could try FakeNES, as FreeDOS + suggested, but barring that, there's also a list of NES emulators that you might be able to make use of here. Looking through all of them, I'd have to recommend FCE Ultra, iNES, or fwNES. Unfortunately, I'm not running Linux, so unless someone that is happens to see this thread and can recommend one for you, you're going to have to download them and see which one works best for you
Good luck, and hopefully you'll be able to find something that works for you. |

| I can't say that this directly affects me at all, and given that, I'm neither sad nor happy about it. We did have a computer with Windows 98 installed, but it somehow became unusable (it wouldn't boot, I couldn't format the hard drive (it'd get to 12% complete and crash), reinstalling Windows did nothing, and the hard drive was only accessible via a DOS prompt), so my Dad, figuring that we wouldn't need the Windows 98 CD anymore (seeing as we were getting a new computer) gave it away to someone he knew.
Since then, I've used XP, and I have to say I'm quite happy with it. There are a few quirks that sometimes get on my nerves, but other than that, it does exactly what I want it to, so I can't complain Even with Microsoft not supporting it anymore, I can see there being at least half a chance that unofficial updates / fixes will be released for future problems. Just because the main guy behind something sets it aside permanently doesn't mean the whole world does as well
Overall though, I have used 98 in the past, and while it worked for what I wanted it to do (for the most part), I'd much prefer XP at present. |
