127 views and no replies, c'mon, the reason I posted was for feedback. please let me know what you think of this, since I'm putting so much time into this.

Well, I am off for a few weeks now, for thanks giving, And I would like to leave you all for the time being with a little bit of curiosity at this teaser...

http://drewseph.zophar.net/newnorfair.jpg

What I am revealing to you is a Completed ***First draft*** of norfair, as it appeared IN GAME ***before*** october 15th

now the sections I have chozen (intentional) to blur out are simply because the room designs have not changed significantly hence I do not want to spoil =)

Enjoy!

All areas are larger than they were before, I just made use of all of norfairs 70 or so rooms and expanded most of them to the maximum. In short, all areas will be larger, but norfair will be by far the largest.

I've been noticing the countless number of Super mario hacks out there, of all shapes sizes and game versions.... IT's MARIO!! surely three hacks is reasonable, but they never stop, peopel keep announcing new mario hacks, what makes these hacks so great (when a constant flow of same old gameplay is always present) that it is worth all that time to put into making a hack?

I am working on a hack as well, but I don't post updates on here much because not many people reply, and the post ends up being drown out by other (overused) mario hacks =P

I don't update here often cause no one ever gives feedback, but heres a comparison of new norfairs map, compared to the size of the original.... now imagin all the areas increasing by the same % and you'll have my hack, which will be completed in anotehr few months....

IMAGE:

As you can see the size of the area is much larger than it used to be =) Crateria is soon to be complete.... Level design is almost finished!!!

Um..... How does my map look anything like M1? And an M1 remake would be stupid because Zero mission is out...... Oh, and the color of the map is changed to a flat color because I don't want any spoilets about room design

this is Super metroid, and a few changes to make the experience more epic..... visit my site (click my sig) for more info

Hmm, what exactly do you mean by Abusing SB tricks? you mean making a section only passable if you use, say, speedball? or Grapple and go through a wall?

If so, then No, my hack has no moments like that.... And most 'bugs' have been fixed/removed from the game.

Also, I don't mean to undermine your efforts, but quantity doesn't nesseseraly mean quality. Five big square rooms with a couple of space pirates, in my opinion is NOT better than just 1 room with a cool bomb-maze puzzle...with space pirates shooting you. Not to say your hack doesn't have that..just giving my opinion is all. I eagerly await this hack. Good Luck.

I find your lack of confidence, Disturbing........

My hack is NOT that shitty as you put it =)

Alex, Sorry about jumping the gun, I was not angry, but after reaqding i did sound it, sorry for the confusion. My hack is being made because there had been so many "shitty" hacks out there for SM already, I wanted to mak this to push the game to its limits.

On a note to floaty jump, I mean in SM samus was much too light and I hated having to wait for her to fall, pluss it was difficult to bomb jump.... so I have made the speed of jumping and falling to be mroe like Metroid Prime

I'd Love to release a patch with the new Physics, but they are just so many small changes and addition to code here and there, I just don't know how to pinpoint them all without hours of searching, so, unfortunatley, no =(

A great tile laying system would be great, maybe if it works like a clipboard, where the player can create complex layouts, and then copy and store them for future use... like "cookie-cutter" pieces...

Couple questions though:

Obviously this is a bigger game, but did you make it harder? As in, are there some wicked jumps or tricky bomb technique jumps, cruel enemy placements? If 1 is stupid easy, 10 ridiculously hard, and the original is a 5, what would your hack be in terms of difficulty?

Did ya modify the bosses in any way? Ive always wished Kraid was more of a challenge because fighting him really is fun and I hate for him to be such a pushover.

Also, yes I realize a staple of all Metroid games is backtracking, but they actually handle it much better than most other games. I completely understand having to go back thru an area to find hidden nooks and crannies, but if forced to run thru the same dull rooms over and over, things can get pretty stale real fast. (I'm looking at you Metroid Prime 2)

I'm really looking forward to your hack Drewseph, wanna spoil us with some new screenshots?

Lots of questions, one answer: Patience and you shall see...

AMAZING new built Interdpth!

This editor is making progress at the speed of light!

my current recommendations:

Speed up the Scroll Bars, Maybe make them scroll 1 full screen for every click, like in smile. when you click on the bar, but a click on the arrows makes the screen move over by 1 tile.

Remove the annoying messages that pop up every time a room auto loads...

Add some sort of screen divider like smile, even if scroll data works differently.

Keep up the amazing work!!
