Excellent job.
You should totally alter some adresses so if you try to enter a door you're not intended to go in, it'd say "You are not allowed to go here".
I mean, just find the star values to the doors and put them to 99, and edit the strings with Text wrangler.

Keep in mind that Bob-Ombs usually kill their parents.
I remember setting a Pipe-dwelling Lakitu to throw Bob-ombs.
The Bob-omb hit Lakitu himself and he died.

Hmm, I say you should make a Dark Ceres-like background and make it loop continuously at the Background. This can be done with that one sprite which allows the Background to scroll. Used in that one Forest level.

And in my opinion, that Mushrooms and Samus thing looks awful.
Removeify them for extra awesomeness.
