You don't switch to a car with hundreds of buttons that you need to turn and push daily to get it to work, especially if your current no-bullshit car works fine, right? 
The only real annoyance I have is that blinking windows bring up the taskbar -- several IM clients have this 'feature' and many (HELLO MSN MESSENGER PLEASE DIE THANKS) have no option to turn it off... as nice as it is, I prefer it when my taskbar stays hidden until I need it. I have sounds on for a reason, thanks. (if anyone knows of some small tweak I can do to get it to not pop up Windows 98 style, please let me know) |

Switch over to something like Fedora Core or even Ubuntu (the installer is a bit weird on Ubuntu). Also don't jump onto the more advanced things like Gentoo or Slackware until you're ready (you'll know when you are, basically when you get sick of working around Fedora Core or Ubuntu instead of working with it)
