Appareantly you dunno the premise of MA2, I've already replaced the two player options with a character select screen. Mario and Luigi each have different sprite sets, completely different worlds and levels to explore and even exclusive items, which to me, out shines just swapping charactrs out to play the same levels. Though I believe one world will have you play the same levels with different characters with different spots catered to each character.



ImInvisible: I've created one mini game where you much catch so many falling red coins. The more you collect, the better your prize after 30 seconds.

Pshaw, I've thought of enough ideas. A lot of the stuff put into MA2 is stuff people have wanted to see (seperate characters, new enemies, etc etc). My main thing I'm looking for is a hack idea that would breathe fresh life into a level. Like the levels I made where you have to collect so many coins to move on. That's a nice change of pace than just from going from A to B. I want ideas like that mostly.

For the most part, the major stuff is done but Im running really dry on level ideas and if I can get some new level objectives that would nudge me forward for a few more worlds, otherwise I sit staring at the level editor hoping something good comes to my head

Ahh thank you SO much beneficii. Your map editor is vastly superior to any others and makes map design WAY faster. Unfortunately I cannot try it out at the moment, but as soon as I do I'll let ya know. Thanks a billion.

Yes I've played that level in Mario vs Luigi, Ive played most of it, even more than most people since I know how to warp in the game.

But still, having one character that is extremely hard to catch and makes you chase him around the whole level would be mre interesting than finding static red coins.


You have not played that. That was one level, not a mini-game. The mini-game is based on ice and you get a prize when the time runs out, unless that's what you are talking about..

We all have seen it. The green-eyed monster. What do you guys suggest doing to get over stupid insecurities and jealousy? My girlfriend has made friends with a guy at work. It should really be no big deal but for some reason it drives me nuts. I know I have nothing to worry about in the long run, yet as my mind wonders, I start to see stupid things and over react to them. I'm afraid it's going to ruin the relationship if I don't get a handle on this stupid jealousy of mine. Any tips or suggestions? (yes, I've talked it out already, it helped until it was time for work again)

I have to generate the hype of all hype!

Most of you know what Luigi vs Mario is, however it's been rather... absent as of late. So where is this thing going?

I have Mario's side of World 1 and 2 complete, Luigi's I have Worlds 1, 2, 3, 4 and working on 5. So progress is slow, I know.

So what's this news about? Since my last update I've added a new power-up call Fire Storm. It lets you go into a stage with fireballs falling from the sky like hail during a storm for an entire level. This is a Mario ONLY item and rather fun to use. That makes a total of 21 inventory items that can be used now. I have room for two more.

Right now I'm working on putting bonus levels in the hack, except, they're a bit different than what you're used to. Rather than "choose" them on the map, I make it so that goal cards play a role. You collect 2 "garbage" goal cards. The third goal card will open a bonus stage. Depending on that 3rd goal card, after completing a level you will be transported to 1 of 4 (or maybe more) bonus stages. Yes, there are four kinds of goal cards in this hack (added the "Leaf" card). These stages will let you earn power-ups, collect coins or possibly other things.

I DO NOT HAVE A DEMO FOR PUBLIC RELEASE. So why am I posting? To get feedback on my planned ideas. I also have something planned in the way of item-collecting like in Mario Adventure and it's keys, but in a different way (think "special-stages" a'la Sonic the Hedgehog). Keys are still in this hack but only used to unlock things on the current map.

Also, multiple Boom-Boom fights will return, however, defeating one will not entice certain death.

There's a lot more here I could tell about but I have no clue where to start...

So what would you guys like to see screen shots of?

They won't be Sonic-style, just the idea of having a special stage needed to complete to get an item. Im thinking of requiring a certain number of coins to have an attempt at grabbing that piece in a level, not sure yet.

Yeah but the latest demo is... well.. outdated lol.

As for Fire-Storm: the fireballs don't hurt Mario. It can be VERY useful in a level with flying fish. I've had the item save my butt several times in a few levels (as a fireball came hurdling into a Koopa right before I ran into it).

I also may port the Luigi Coin Quest level-completion idea into LvM, so that in some levels, rather than going for a goal card, you may have to activate a switch which makes an item appear, which ends the stage. I'm just trying to keep the levels fresh and ideas pouring on in.

Well to just to let ya know, there aren't going to be anymore scheduled demos. I took the old demo down because I wiped my old site clean (it was full of a LOT of junk), so I may eventually get back around to putting my stuff back up, who knows.

Funny that you say that Onyx, I planned on porting the "Find the switch and grab the coin that appears" concept found in Luigi's Coin Quest to MA2 to keep the levels fresh, so good idea!

I created another bonus stage last night for the bonus stage system.

In this stage you're dropped onto 500 frozen coins. The "Fire storm" power-up is automaticly induced and fireballs begin to rain onto the coins, melting them. You have 60 seconds to collect as many coins as you can then the bonus stage ends.

Still have two more bonus stages to go. I have several ideas but not sure what to go on. I thought about a swimming based stage, or race against time stage. I'm looking for creating a bonus stage where the outcome isn't always the same (some randomizing factor) but you cannot die in the level from it (after all, you already completed the normal stage).

I also want the prizes to be different from the rests (the first bonus stage gives you an item, the other one gives you coins, I need two more prize-types for the last one).

for the time being they will have the exact same mini-games. However with the first one, the prizes are different for each character.

Hex is just a way of representing the brute forced binary data found in the ROM image. Hex = numbering system. "Hacking hex" is misleading, it's a way of hacking a ROM. You can create an interface that represents what each value a combination of bits might represent, in that case you get graphics, level and music editors. "Hacking hex" is just going into a file and manipulating it's contents in a raw form without any interpretation by the computer...

So my first suggestion is learn what hexadecimal really is and what use a hex editor has.

Second, start by using simple editors, behind graphics hacking and build up your skills. Learn how a Game Genie works and learn how to create Game Genie codes. Then lastly work your way into ASM hacking, which you can find a plethora of information of by just reading through the forums here.
