Posted on 07-12-06 03:43 PM, in Why is Mario and Luigi more diferent in SMB3 than SMW? Link
Actually...

SMW has greater possibilities. SMB3 has great limits that have to be surprassed. It's not the game, but the hacker that decides. SMW could easily seperate Mario and Luigi, but some of the things people have done with SMW could never be done in SMB3. I've worked with SMB3 for over 3 years, that's really the only reason I can do what I do. Others like Fusoya and BMF can do similiar with SMW. It's all determined by the ones hacking it.

Yes, it's now a rule unless the other mods disagree with this rule. I will give him a second change before closing this thread.

Notice what's cool about this screen? There's two locks, each with a different key hole. And there's two keys. Hmmmmm

Actually I could, but I decided against it because A) That would be way too much stuff going on for one person to process on the screen (already tried it, it tends to give me a headache). B) when the locks disappear after destroying them, they need to leave behind the same tile everytime, thus, leaving the blank, bland grass tile behind.

Every level has a green coin. Green coins must be collected to open up pipes that lead to other worlds. So here you can complete level 2 or 3 to add a green coin to your collection (note, just completing a level doesn't earn you the green coin, you must find it within the level). By having seemingly randomly placed levels, you can choose what level you want to play, when, what order and which ones to avoid. Plus some levels main contain secrets or special bonuses.

Posted on 07-14-06 01:06 AM, in What's a good nes hex editor? Link
There are no system specific hex editors (as far as game systems go). Any hex editor will work on any console hacking. I prefer to use Hex Workshop and the built in hex editor in FCEUxd.

*pants* Been working endlessly for 3 days getting this ASM hack to work

As you see here, there are two pipes. One leads to world 2, the other to world 3. These are "locked" pipes. These don't even show up until you beat the castle (as you can see in the upper right hand corner)

Once that is done, you move over a pipe that's locked (you see these pipes have no "hole") and press A. If you have the required amount of green coins (number of green coins shown in the right side of the status bar) you will enter the pipe and those coins will be deduceted.

Now once you've entered this pipe, every pipe in the game that leads to world 2 is unlocked

The icon below the coins display is the number of levels you've completed with a green coin. I may change this to display something else, we'll see where that goes. But this was not an easy hack to implement. Now I'm going to go eat ice cream and rest.

Editing text does absolutely nothing to the performance of the game. As far as "making everything work faster and better", that's an emulation problem, not the game itself.

I'm having a hard time thinking up new kinds of enemies (or using existing enemies) based around the themes in Mario Adventure 2. My main problem at the moment is thinking of plant based enemies and water + plant based enemies. Let's brainstorm!

I didn't try Respect. I almost passed HDV though, it's surprisingly not hard except at the end. Just passing it gets you the One More Extra Stage, which is Chaos... which is more Evil than Faxx Maxx.

Uhm Toxic, Doesn't Really Matter and Chikaru are all really good. AA is good, but not as hard as A Oni. I got rapped by AA on doubles though. Dragonblade is a bit off sync but good. Matsuri Japan J-Summer Mix is a lot harder than it seems on a pad (the 9 footer version). It's way harder to get an AA now. I only AA'd maybe 1/3rd of the stuff I did, where as in Extreme I AA'd things left and right all the time. Know Tomorrow from Ex2 PS2? It's WAY off sync, atleast by half a beat by the end of the song. It's horrible.

Funny enough, these elite group is also the same group of ITG1 and 2 players used to using high speed mods who, in turn, used to bash those who used speed mods in DDR initially.

Anyways, you have to realize about OMES is Chaos. Chaos is a song where some steps are SO close together, that when you step on one, you'll see another one right under it during the pause. That is why it's not 1.5 or any other speed mod for OMES, then Chaos becomes meaningless as a challenging song.

This isn't very significant to many but:

Those are background tiles in a water... Any decent SMB3 hacker should know what happens by putting things in bushes and clouds in water does, but I created a hack around this hehe.

Ahhh more DDRSN stuff. DoLL is an excellent songs with excellent steps with horrible sync. Brilliant R*E*D is a rough one, but fun. Drivin' I failed. Xepher KICKS MAJOR ASS. Oddly enough, I noticed that a few 2nd mix songs have made a come back (I'm For Real, Peace Out, Slake's stuff). Dynamite Rave Super Euro Version is surprisingly very very good.
