Uhm... show us some screenshots of actual level modifications then I'll believe you've done significant work on any level of the hack.

Also, this is in no way an emulator issue. It's your patch. If your patch works then you're sending us the wrong patch or you've created a patch improperly.

To stop the all the threads, I suggest we create a thread in which all hack ideas will go into. I'll start: A cool hack would be to create a hack of SMB3 where mario and luigi are seperate characters and each have their own seperate worlds and levels, with like 5 new powerups, a bunch of new items, new enemies and cool gfx. I think that would cool. Anyone want make for me?

But seriously, please keep hack ideas here.

Well I need an idea for my hack. Here's the premise:

It's of SMB3 (duh) and every level has a green coin you can collect. You will go from world to world using a pipes on the map screen (there's no king, no princess letters, etc, etc). I will have the pipes appear after completing the boss stage. Now, I need some use for the green coins. I might make it so you must unlock pipes using the green coins, or I might make it so that you can only access some power-ups based on the number of green coins you have.

Ideas are very welcomed.

Already did the re-enter levels you've completed. I did that in MA1. In MA2 you can exit re-entered levels (and if you collected a green coin in that level, it won't be there upon rentering).

As for turning the slot machines so that they work vertically, that's impossible cuz of NES's speed. It can't run fast enough to modify things mid-scanline

Freaky how our goomba designs are similiar, yet I never laid an eye on yours.

But very excellent job. A fine example how gfx and level design alone can make a hack look out of this world.

And the BNE, BEQ, etc etc aren't Break, they're Branch (Branch if Equal, Branch if Not Equal). Might want to fix that

Actually, for #1 you're half right. It's works like SMW only for Mario's side. For Luigi's side it's an item box but the item in said box functions differently for each item.

Yes, mine is equippable from the map screen. Except mine can be equipped multiple times for multiple times the effect (up to eight times).

BVC and BVS Are Branch if oVerflow is Set/Clear.
Basiclly, if an addition/subtraction operation causes a byte to go below/over 0 (like FE + 3 or 3 - 6) the V flag is set, meaning there was an over/underflow.

In the Hex Editor, go to View and make sure "ROM File" is checked. Otherwise the changes you make will NOT save.

well what I'd do is as the level fades out, before the game starts to load the level data, intercept the game's routine, take over the PPU (is it still called a PPU in the SNES?). Wait for Vblank and do your writes to it which draws out the level name. After the level name is written, don't let the game go. Do several waits for Vblank (say, 6 or 7) after that let the game load it's level and draw the level. I did this for SMB3 and it uses the "black out" time to load level data, store it into RAM and load sprites. The NES is considerably slower and my routine didn't slow things down at all.

Er... I didn't rip the graphics from SMA SMB. In fact, I wasn't even looking at the game when I created these graphics. I created the bottom and someone pointed out how they looked similiar to SMA SMB so I decided to make the top similiar too. My goal isn't to match SMA SMB but just to make a neat looking dungeon.

Anywho:


Opinion: is it more like a forest or does it seem more like a jungle? I say jungle, what do you think?

Yes, I'm hacking SMB3 right now where Mario and Luigi have common power-ups and seperate power-ups, along with seperate worlds and levels. So it's already being done.
