I guess what I'm annoyed about is just seeing this franchise get milked to no end, being ported to nearly every single console and handheld out there. Original versions getting remakes, and remakes getting remakes. I normally don't have an issue with this kind of thing, but seriously ... Squeeeenix is a monster that just doesn't stop, and its just kind of getting old if you ask me.

Well, Xeo, your problem here lies in the fact that you're saying their name wrong.

Enix Square has definitely overdone the Final Fantasy Remake angle to the point where it's definitely milked the cow for all it's worth, but what enrages me is what I've recently heard.

The port of Final Fantasy Tactics that's coming to PSP soon in Japan (though unannounced in North America) will apparently have story elements in it that tie into Final Fantasy 12.

Since when does that work out? They're not even from the same world. That's a more specific case of Enix Square overdoing remakes to the point where they're desperately grasping for people's money. Years ago, when FF12 was still in development, they announced that yes, it would take place in Ivalice, but that that Ivalice was not connected to the Ivalice in Final Fantasy Tactics, instead drawing a connection to the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance world. Now, in an attempt to sell more copies of the port of Tactics that is coming to the PSP, they're retconning the Tactics story to include characters from FF12, in spite of it being, according to their previous statements, impossible for that to happen.

I've given up on Final Fantasy. Give me more Grandia and Kingdom Hearts.

EDIT: They say you can tell how much of an elitist a gamer is by asking them to name their favorite Final Fantasy game. The lower the number, the more elitist they are.

Mine's IV.

Couldn't agree with you anymore here Grey, its not exactly "Enix Square" ... its Final Fantasy. It just needs to end, or something.

Also, I'm pretty sure FFXII's world of Ivalice, is like 400 or something years later from FFT's, yet somehow my friends are telling me Balthier will be playable. Okay, someone care to explain that one? Guess he's a god?

Edit: For me, I'd say VI. Yeah yeah, though IV comes next. Classic save-the-world story at its finest.

Oh, and you know what I want from SE? A good Mana game. Its been too long since I've played or seen one of those.

(I'm slightly tired right now, so this won't be an incredibly in-depth post, for now. Sorry)
Final Fantasy is a great series and all, though lately I've been wishing the franchise would just die.

For me:

Final Fantasy I, II, and III - Decent games, but they didn't necessarily "pull me in", like some of the others.
Final Fantasy IV - Still my favorite typical RPG, and one of my favorite FF's. What I mean by typical, is its a "Hey, there's bad guys trying to take over the world. I'm this awesome Knight that's gotta rise and kill them, with a small part of love life here and there". The plot isn't anything fancy at all, but its a solid game, nothing really bad with it, and it was amazing for its time.
Final Fantasy V - Decent. Fun gameplay with the job system. Terrible plot.
Final Fantasy VI - My personal favorite. Introduced some fresh ideas, though a lot of us will agree the game somewhat falls apart towards the middle half (WoR). Also, the gameplay was somewhat weak, it was too easy to make your characters gods.
Final Fantasy VII - Great game, the only FF I've beaten all the way through more than once besides IV and VI. But, it has a bin full of unexplained plot holes, weak characters, and some stuff that drags it down. Then there's the fanboys, the milking, the nightmare that was Advent Children, etc.
Final Fantasy VIII - You'll probably see this one get bashed a lot. But it was honestly something else. Very different and unique, some of the coolest settings I've seen in an FF, and had some incredible music. Though, like other FF's, the gameplay was far too easy.
Final Fantasy IX - Unique, solid grade A RPG that I really enjoyed. But I haven't been driven to beat it again or anything. Sidequests were fun in this one, and so was the card game.
Final Fantasy X - Beat it, realized how much I hated it. I seriously do, no offense. This caused me to not play X-2.
Final Fantasy XII - Solid game if you ask me, and I'm enjoying it. But, I'm not 14-ish like I used to be. I'm 19, in college, and working about 30 hours a week. I don't have an insanely huge amount of time like I once did, back when all I did was play games and stuff. I've had this game since it came out (November?) and I'm only about 25 hours in.

All in all, the Final Fantasy series is somewhat solid for the most part. But, most of them are very easy, and they're not perfect at all.

RPG games I've enjoyed more: Chrono Trigger / Cross, Suikoden series, Breath of Fire III/IV, Star Ocean series, Secret of Mana / SD3, and surely there's a bunch of others out there I'm forgetting.

Where should you start? I have no idea. I guess I'd say FFIV. It has a big taste of "old school" flavor to it, and its just a pretty solid "classic" FF game. After that, I don't know.

But I still have to say nowadays, seeing more Final Fantasy games, remakes, ports, spin-offs, sequels (3 games in production for FFXIII), and whatnot, makes me sick. If the franchise died right now, I probably wouldn't lose any breath over it.

And although the IV GBA remake "looks" nicer, be careful. It can be pretty buggy at times, and battles usually suffer from constant jolts of lag here and there. The GBA port of V seemed to get all of this fixed. Still haven't tried the VI port, so I can't say on that.

Hmm, yeah. I should've mentioned FFT.

Though, maybe unlike most when people bring up "Final Fantasy", FFT usually isn't the first thing I think of. Its just its own thing, out there if you ask me.

Doupt that made any sense, but oh well. Basically, FFT is definitely a solid game in my book.

Well, it had ... decent music, I think? I can't remember. Even if you want Final Fantasy for Beginners, screw this game, and get Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars instead.

Oh, and Xenogears. That's one PSX RPG I've been meaning to play, for far too long. Luckily you can still buy it off "Squaresofts" online store for $20, from what I remember.

And yes, both KOTOR's rocked my world. Jade Empire, not that much actually ...

Beat me to it!

I absolutely love high end sprites, like SNES/PSX era and up (Star Ocean 2, Tales, and a ton of other PSX RPG's could be an example).

God Hand was fun, absolutely terrible graphics. It came out a few months ago and looked like a Dreamcast launch title or something. But, it didn't ruin the game for me.

For me, graphics are a nice edition to the game. If they're awesome, I'll probably complement them. If they're not, it probably wouldn't make a difference at how I look at the game.

The kind of people that really piss me off, are the people who say they can't go back and play PSX games or whatnot because of the "terrible graphics". They were probably revolutionary at the time, and should it even really matter? I mean, I might give a chuckle at how some of the stuff in the old Resident Evil games looks or something, but it won't stop me from playing and doesn't make me look down at the game at all.

I think emcee put it best with the ice cream.

Vagrant Story > Final Fantasy XII. In every way, music and everything.

Then again, like I said I've just gotten 25 hours or so into FFXII, so I can't really say.

But yeah, Vagrant Story is definitely another one of Square's "awesome but unheard of" RPG's.

Another thing that really bugs me is when one game is almost too pretty, then every other game looks ugly. An example would be Gears of War. Definitely one of the slickest games I've ever seen, but when I start seeing everyone compare other games to GoW's "graphics" only, it just gets annoying.

"The graphics suck compared to Gears!" - Oh well, its a different team. They have a different style, engine, game, everything ... egads!

Maybe I've just been around GameFAQ's a bit too much lately.

And out of all of those, 8 was probably the most bitchin' one. I think the story was the best the series had to offer, and the music was amazing. I still get chills when I here the "Vinos, Lusec" music.

As far as RPG's go, Final Fantasy pale in comparison to my favorite, Lunar: Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue. Those games were pure gold... especially Silver Star Story.

Ah yes, Working Designs rocked! I still have a soft spot for Arc the Lad 2 (too bad the series went to crap after that).

Its a shame newer Working Designs games sucked, like Growlancer.

Alright, so yesterday I walked by this girl at my college that looked so familar I was blown away. Then, after my math class I stepped out and noticed she was sitting on the ground talking with friends, and again she looked too familar.

I'm in the belief that she's one of my good friends I grew up with when I was much younger, in 5-7th grade. I know its strange, and maybe you could argue I've dwelled over such things from the past, but oh well. At the moment I was kind of too shocked to say anything, but since then I've been determined to say something to her on Monday when I go back to school. I'm pretty sure she didn't see me at this time.

The thing is though, I'm assuming if I don't do this right it could just all come out pretty awkward. I'm just going to flat out go right up to her and say "Hey, are you so and so? Holy crap! Its me, yeah! etc" but after that I wouldn't be sure where to go with it.

So, hopefully this topic doesn't suck. I guess I just need some tips on how to re-introduce myself to someone I haven't seen in years, and make a good impression. I've realized you can't really get anything done without taking risks and trying when it comes to these types of things, so I'm pretty determined about this.

However, it may not be her. If it isn't, I'll probably be upset for that day or so but I'll get over it quickly. But I don't know, she looked SO familar.

The character sprites in Star Ocean 2 looked terrible, though.

Eh .... yeah, you're right they were pretty bad. Oh well, the awesome [everything else] in the game makes up for it.
