"Cool" bowser is pretty slick. It definitely sets a mood for the final battle, especially with the cigarette and whatnot. Man, I'm half-expecting the guy to pull out a laser gun and start firing rounds at Luigi.

... well, if I didn't know that almost isn't possible.

I was playing the game and I got to the level where it turns into a side-scrolling shooter and the game froze.

It was really awesome up to that point, though. Sonic for the title screen was hilarious.

Well. I've dealt with Cat Lover before (starman.net ) and I have to say that he definitely has his heart in the right place, but his brain is located somewhere near his butt.

Cat Lover, you definitely need to realize that backseat moderating is a form of hypocrisy in the way that it lacks contributions to the conversation anyway. I mean, it would have been slightly better if you actually said something interesting along with your post, but meh.

Yeah, and anyway, another one of your weird problems is that most of your posts (especially new topics) are abstract ideas with no foundation whatsoever. If you're going to make a new topic (albeit it's probably a bad idea anyway), at least tell the people what the heck your topic is about before jumping into the technicalities. You definitely seem to have this problem where you go directly to the point of the topic and don't explain what the heck is going on, like "chrono trigger hacks topic" and such. Your single EarthBound hack, "Freebound", is the embodiment of your personality in the way that it makes no sense, has no foundation and cohesion, and the basic ideas and strategy guides are taken from somewhere else or aren't finished yet yet implemented anyway.

If you could just try to think about what the heck people are going to say about your post first, maybe it'd be okay?

CRAP I'M A HYPOCRITE I HAVE NOTHING TO CONTRIBUTE OH NO

also I backseat moderated

This hack looks really good. I like original ideas and stuff.

Anyway, to the point: HOLY CRAP those are some good looking trees you have there.

Hey, dudes. You have to admit this is pretty smart for a six-year old. I mean, he has grammar and punctuation that rivals the majority of the internet, not to mention a drive and ambition that no one else can match.

Seriously, though, let's institute a multi-year-ban or something. By the time he comes back (if he even does) he will have little to no recollection of what happened and he'll probably be a lot smarter after being around the internet for a couple more years. (Not to mention a lot more scarred for life)

I can't see the pictures?... Well, maybe it's just a problem with my stupid browser. Pictures are everything, though. Everything.

Okay, I copied and pasted the URLs into the bar and I could see the images. Now, time to do those classic image reviews like everybody else! I'm one of you guys now.

Well, the images are gone for some reason (TRY IMAGESHACK OR SOMETHING), but the lessons will never die:

1. Okay, so, it says "small" in the bonus stage. Well, besides being really creepy and weird, "small" really isn't very well drawn. Try zooming in. I'm serious here. It's very helpful.

2. What happened there? It looks like the end of the game, but Mario's stuck and... what the heck? This is like the Freebound of Mario hacks. (The posts following Cat Lover's really sum up what I have to say about this hack.)

3 - 5. Well, they're kind of weird and having no background is boring, and the level design is meh, these shots really don't look too bad. Uh, yeah.

Practice makes perfect, but practice doesn't have to be released. And if this is perfect...

I should have suspected as much... anyway, on to the advice column:

1. This level design is boring, or you're taking terrible screenshots. The background is meh, but it's much better than nothing.
2. The new background is nice, along with the block choices. The level design is still terrible, though, and the whole level looks forced. Also, the name in the statusbar changed colors. Uhm... interesting.

3. The clouds are very out of place. What are the boulders? Those arrows are ugly. The level design still isn't improving.
4. Is this like... forcing you to get hurt? Because you totally implied it. Hint: Symmetry makes things look pretty. Completely randomness or baselessness is boring and annoying.

5. what
6. This picture is terribly boring. Take a ton of pictures and post the interesting ones instead of taking few bad pictures and putting them here.

7. This actually isn't so bad. I like the ? block.
8. I'm guessing you suck at Mario.
9. what

what the hell

Mmm, I like Black Squirrel's sprites and the infobox, but the pictures and star statue are lacking just a little bit. The shading on the star is kind of odd, what with its feet fading away and everything, but its expression is priceless so it's okay. The pictures on the wall could be better, but they're pictures so I have no idea. Also, the clock next to the time and on the world map needs some work, as it looks like its from the Atari or superimposed or something. Add some shading?

Well, uh, if it can't be shaded (I don't hack Super Mario World, so I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to knowing what format stuff is in), can you at least shrink it by a pixel so the circle has an odd number of pixels so you can center the time?

Yeah, there should be an award based on coherency, because if anyone wanted a syndrome or to win one of these things, all they have to do is post repeatedly in the Craziness Domain. Heh heh heh.

Hahaha! Ansem? Unless he actually shows up as a boss (instead of Bowser) or at least Hallow Bastion, it sounds kind of... a dumb crossover to do. But hey, stupider things have been thought of and made awesome, and maybe you can do it, too.

That picture's too small for me, too, and by the looks of it the game isn't very interesting. I mean, it's okay, but... meh.

Also, you might want to note that the only ideas you're going to get are the ones that people don't want to do because they're too lazy and it's too hard. The rest of them will mostly be bad or people will keep them to themselves so they can use them later.

Yeah, from what I've heard, Bowser's going to be a woman and the Princess is going to be Prince Toadstool instead. Sounds cool in theory, but will it be double-cool in reality?

Heh heh, I always find the nonsensical covers for the pirate NES games hilarious. I heard Super Kart Fighters was a pretty good pirate-made game. These people actually have to be pretty good programmers to make these things, it's kind of impressive except when they're just poorly done ROM HACKS or several slapped-together Mario games.

My favorite would probably have to be "Pokemon Yellow" for the NES. Heh heh heh, Super Mario Bros. hack.

Posted on 01-29-06 09:30 AM, in Who's better, Mario or Luigi? Link
Well, they're both very good, but their qualities are different, so I'm going to have to list this out:

Mario - Instigator of trouble in Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Fat, Short, Wrestler, Can't jump as high, Older, Stronger, better traction, red

Luigi - Bearer of trouble in Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Thin, Tall, still a wrestler, jumps really high, younger, I have no idea what to put here, worse traction, green, vaguely homosexual

Well, I personally always play as Mario in SSBM, but Pink Luigi is an awesome character too, especially when he uses the Michael Jackson attack and several other moves sure to offend many people.

Uh, so, I'm gonna go with Luigi because he's taller and skinnier and also he was the only reason I beat Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Worlds.

After the sixth sega, it just gets kind of dumb. Go buy a Super Nintendo, buddy.

But really, I never played much of Seventh Saga. Too much level-up repetivity, for me. Is it even vaguely worth it, or what? I barely got to the part with the really hard Androids that punch you in the crotch for like 50 damage or something. Those guys were like Michael Jordan on crack or something.

SQUIRTLE SQUIRTLE ahlahalhalha

Uh, yeah, I go with Squirtle most of the time
because Blastoise is awesome and I made it rhyme
Always just chooses Venusaur
Who always dies in twenty-four (seconds)
I teach Blastoise Ice Beam and then he dies
After that, I win the prize.

So yeah, with Bubblebeam, Ice Beam, and Bite or something, Blastoise is pretty awesome and beats all the other starting Pokemon. I don't think Charizard can do that, at least not well. Maybe he'd learn thunder.

Okay, so I started this morning and I beat it. I have to say it's really awesome, but not as good as Cave Story. Personally, it's much more refreshing than playing Cave Story, though, as the entire system and everything is so original I had no idea what was going to happen next.

The plot was awesome! I can't find the last CP Orb. I'll get it later, maybe.

Woo, Imageshack sure is slow today, isn' t it?

Anyway, those are screenshots from my complete-but-extremely-buggy EarthBound hack, Arn's Winter Quest: Gway Edition. I think I'm an okay spriter, as those are pretty much the best sprites in the game. Any advice or something?

I like the All-Stars version better, too. There's more music, better graphics, better music, and the resolution is higher so the control is tighter. The only thing the original SMB has over the new one is the Minus World and the way the music sounds. Hmm.

Also, the ability to save. I really don't think I could beat The Lost Levels without that. Yow.
