Edit: The US-Patent for Dr. Mario gets for the first 10000 Characters a whooping 18.78.

Spelling errors usually cause the grade level go up, hence the need for proofreading to make sure that said content is coherent, since this tool uses a dictionary to figure out the syllables of each word, to the best of my knowledge. Also, this tool really doesn't account for grammar, not directly in any case, but awkward grammar usage decreases readability. But again, I must reiterate that this tool need not define the grade level needed to read a text with the degree of accuracy that some people have noted, it is only a tool, and its results are to be used with proper judgment; oftentimes a perfectly simple post such as this one will register a grade level incongruent to its actual difficulty.

Posted on 01-19-07 09:39 AM, in Adultery can get you life Link
So what are we debating, the actuality that there is a slim probability that one could be sentenced for a life in prison, or considering if this was in fact a "real" law. Considering the information given in the article, this obscure clause has been around for a long time, and no one has been convicted for adultery since 1971. I feel this is a case of the speed limit law: a marginal number of people actually follow that one cannot go over a given speed, but the norm is that it's acceptable to go 70 mph on a 60 mph highway, and the law punishes neither of these groups, but the ones who are going significantly faster than the rest. Much in the same way, I don't expect very many--if any--to be sentenced to life in prison for adultery, but I can see someone being sent for life for a crime similar to the crime that brought up all of this, a variation of prostitution.

The fact that a company would be dismayed at this new increase illustrates that there's enough people so that most places don't have to pay competitive wages for unskilled labor. I don't understand what you mean by people miss the big issues, Metal Man88. Do tell.

Also I think most of the strife in this topic came from the fact some people took it as denouncing complex posts, which a number of people utilize.

However the number of syllables isn't the be-all and end-all of difficulty; using basic words, one can express strange concepts which require several read-throughs to get the gist off. Some instruction manuals have baffled me with sentences that have two meanings--and why do they have to always happen where the wrong action could cause catastrophic results?

An example might be nice. You have a point though, there are cases where clarity is an absolute necessity over all else, texts that can have serious repercussions if misinterpreted, like the Bible lab manuals, heavy machinery instructions, and such. Although I think it's unnecessary to note "Do not drink" on 16M HCl.

I've read it before, but I don't see why you point out that you cannot talk "below that sort of level." Are you saying that you cannot minimize the usage of polysyllabic diction in your debating, or that you have become a modern-English speaker? I'm pretty sure that either way, that isn't exactly a talent.

Everyone around me is old, and smelly.
I'm the only one actually pursuing an economics-based degree.

Anyone remember the Dr. Brain games? It makes me feel a bit old to think that they were that far back. But when I look back and think of such games, it makes me wonder, why aren't there that many brain-stimulating games anymore? I like your first-person shooter as much as the next, but does anyone ever feel that there should be more games that force you to think?
