OK, until reading this thread, I had never heard someone even suggest that Obama is a Muslim (unless you count Tedd Kennedy calling him Senator Osama Bin Laden). So where does anyone get the idea that Americans are being lead to believe that Obama is a Muslim? And what is your beef with FOX news? Do you watch the channel? If you think FOX is convincing Americans that Obama is a Muslim, then you need to watch them a little more often. Even if we are speaking of the real Muslim (Keith Ellison), I've never heard FOX predicting that the moon would fall, or that the sun would rise on the wrong side, or even that he would smuggle a shoe bomb into the assembled congressmen and assassinate them all.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being Muslim, you know.
I don't wish to watch FOX news. There is little to gain from doing so. I've watched FOX news, and I know what it's like.

I would go so far as to say that the normality of humanity could be expressed with a bell curve, and that most people are just similar by sheer probability. Conversely, it would just be a result of probability that there are people divergent with the norm, and that thought has nothing to do with it.
And since you mentioned it, is it bad to have a burning pain in the chest? One that pinches at the senses, makes one wince, suffer? A normal person cannot grasp pains not normal and is quick to marginalize the pained as pitiable, if not worse.
What medicine will man prescribe to that which he himself cannot understand?

Might you answer my question, not question my answer?

Maybe when you meet someone truly worthless you'll gain a better perception of just how much you actually mean.

And stop asking questions that don't have an answer in cryptic language -- that can be taken as BSing around in the OC, which is, as I'm sure you know, not within the rules. You can just as easily say "Well, I know the conditions, not the disease, so what's the cure?" and get a ton of feedback relating to your life, the condition it's in, and your prospects for the future. Like Tarale said, the OC is a place where you come to talk about what's directly bothering you, not ask a line of questions that are hard to answer and not entirely related to your problem.

Someone who reads this thread all the way through will suddenly start noticing your language take an unexpected left turn about two-thirds of the way through, which is where this philosophical stuff started. The best solution to your woes is to act on them, not sit around and talk about them.

Might I ask an answer to a somewhat less cryptic problem then?
Every waking moment, life feels so very tiring. Exhausting, even though I really don't do much. And constant pains from head to toe. There's only so much advil, motrin or whatsnot that one can use in a day, and most of it doesn't do much. It's ever so tiring to be alive.

Obviously in most of the US Spanish is the way to go, both in terms of available teachers and utility. Unfortunately, though, learning a language in school doesnt guarantee skill with it... ultimately that comes down to the individual students and their environment, language aptitude and so forth.

FWIW most white Americans who speak a bit of Spanish seem to speak with GOD-AWFUL accents, but that's probably just my bias. I'm sure Australian accented Spanish sounds pretty absurd too.

As for teaching in first-language Spanish. Bilingual education is probably the best bet in environments where there's a bilingual environment outside the classroom. I guess the main point is, they shouldn't not teach in Spanish just on misguided nativist principle. I don't know enough about educational and linguistic theory to know whether kids aged 5-10 can comfortably juggle two languages, but I suspect they're good enough that it isn't a zero-sum English OR Spanish game.

I'm in favor of schools teaching a lot of things, but it doesn't mean they can actually do them. It seems nice in theory, but it seems extreme in reality. If so many people can't even handle English, they're not going to learn English and another language. I'd agree with you to the extent that the secondary language education system in the U.S. is absolute crap though. Spanish shouldn't be the compulsory language learned, either. But there's something I don't agree with. Although I would agree that it is a zero-sum game with two languages, it's far better to know one language solidly than have a less-than-solid understanding of two languages. And if one is not fluent in a language and apt to use it often, it becomes more of a novelty than anything. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but that there are an exceedingly small number of people I know who are fluently bilingual, and that's because they speak both languages at home, and have to take cram school. I don't know if they exist, but I haven't seen any Mexican-Spanish cram schools. Really, the people who are bilingual have parents who either don't speak English, or primarily use another language except English at home. It's not so easy to just learn a language at the drop of a hat, as Arwon makes it seem. At least not for the majority of people.
Simply, it's a lot easier for a minority of people to learn what the majority speaks, and not the other way around. Racist as it sounds, it's just logical. Unless there are a lot of resources that are in need of wasting.

Then they added a bunch more to show how Cell can do more things at once. However, all the pulses were just moving in very small circles. Cell: Does nothing 8 times faster!

What I've been reading is not that it's bad, but that the Cell processor it uses doesn't use the traditional sort of processing, and needs to be adjusted to in a different way. But here's the article:

I agree. Of all the natural forces, wind has ever been my enemy. Of course, I don't have a lot of hair for it to mess up anymore, so I hate it slightly less.

Wind is always there to mess up your day. Sunny out? Too bad it's windy. Cold out? Now it's worse. Not to mention that newspaper and wind are mortal enemies.

This is nonsense. If this isn't just pure and utter provocation, I have to get a bunch of papers mailed to them by the 10th. This is not to be tolerated. How on earth am I expected to mail them something by the 10th, if they sent this email to me today? They suggest a letter of recommendation along with a few more essays and transcript.

While I'm pro nuclear power, it can't possible cover all energy the civilizations needs. The nuclear fuel would run out in just a few years.

That I doubt. Dealing with the byproducts of nuclear energy might be a problem though.

But that doesn't mean that every risk isn't worth taking. I myself am currently striving(and will be for quite a while hopefully) to become a doctor. And from there, save the world. My ambitions are great but I'll be damned if I let anyone crush them. Your dreams are yours alone. Nobody can take them away from you. What is best in life? To achieve those dreams. Never become discouraged. That is the number one weakness. You begin to think "What if?" too often. Your future is in your hands. Live your life as it happens. I sometimes think this way too, but I find that being around those I love makes me feel carefree and hopeful. Honestly though, nobody can tell you how to live.

Ridiculous. Mathematics in itself is an abstraction, as is statistics. Success is a social construct. Do whatever you want to do. If you want to be famous, go for it.

Strong words for someone who also is posting behind a name on a message board, and is but one year older than me.

I can't help but wonder what you have for self esteem, needing to call my opinion irrelevant to prevent it from meaning anything to you.

I care not about whether or not I am relevant. I am who I am. I understand fully the irrelevance of my opinions to the world at large.

I would gleefully challenge you to a debate over the matter, but for the safety of this topic and sanity of other people, I will not.

I don't understand the entire "look at person when they're talking thing." I know that I can hear someone perfectly no matter what direction I'm looking, hence why people can listen to multiple people at the same time. Supposedly it's a courtesy thing, but I think this is unnecessary formality.
