This was an interesting find today while I was at RadioShack. Out of boredom, I wondered if there was any decent vids put in recently at the uploader for Cave Story. Well, I happened across a huge WMV file that was mirror on YouTube here.

It's a Boss Rush mode. It seems to be only available, thus far, in the uploader and only meant for the Japan version, which likely means that this was probably a fan-made patch. However, it does allow you to attack all the bosses one after another.

It exists at the Doukutsu uploader. I believe that it's for the Japan version via this file.

I'm not sure if I missed the update to this or what, but I didn't hear anyone talking about it over here, at least.

The only one I've seen locally here that does anywhere close to good was doing Twilight on Medium rather well (upper 80s for score). I was surprised she did the hands as well as she did. She could do a few Heavies. She looked about 16 or 17.

Shame I only saw her one time. :\

Adding to the fact that the timer's in this, I would assume it's more of a 'do it as fast as you can' thing. In playing through it once, it lets you have the capacity to choose what upgrades you want at any time based on how the story usually goes. Say the v0.8 jetpack? You can skip it to get 2.0 later.

I would likely bet it's malware regardless, I haven't heard a confirmation that you have up-to-date virus defs in your scanner or what scanner you're even using.

If you have Internet Explorer, run HouseCall on it to make sure.
