The only reason I would fire up ePSXe again is to play Xenogears trained. If I had a modchip on my old PSX, I'd play it through that way.

My comp's not that great, even with a RADEON STEALTH 256MB card in it. :\

Probably not new but...wow?

I would wonder if that's really worth an 80 dollar price tag.

Considering I still see Windows 98 SE systems being used? I doubt it. It'd be cool to see what a Windows 3.11 or lower would do against today.

Meh, didn't they try something similar to this with EyeToy and DDR Extreme 2? Didn't it flop...badly?

I still say they'd be better off taking ITG (now owned by DDR/Konami anyways) and PIU, combine it together, give the player 9 panels and THEN let's see who's boss with the freaking Wiimote.

Posted on 02-04-07 06:22 AM, in Super Bombliss Tourney (Round 1 due by 3/4: Go for broke!) Link
EDIT (02/18/07):

>>>

All people who have signed up: PLEASE ENSURE YOU KNOW HOW TO USE NETPLAY! Also, make sure you have a copy of 'Super Bombliss (J).smc'. There should only be one version out that I know of and if there are problems recognizing the ROM in play, have both people name it to this and have each other load from their respective computers.

ZSNES 1.42 works best for this tournament. Played with setz to confirm this. 1.36 is BARE MINIMUM, however.

SIGNED UP (16):
1 - Xkeeper
2 - cpubasic13
3 - BooUrns
4 - Colin
5 - setz
6 - Hiryuu
7 - Grey
8 - Dr. Sophie
9 - Ninetales
10 - Ailure
11 - Drag
12 - Yoronosuku
13 - Tanks
14 - fabio
15 - Higsby
16 - Kirby Mario

ALTERNATES (4, used from top to bottom):
A1 - neotransotaku
A2 - blackhole89
A3 - Sonicandfails
A4 - Randy53215

>>>

Well, in terms of originality, I think we've run dry on the puzzle games.

Tetris and Dr. Mario looked okay but that's not quite original.

I don't want another Tetris Attack tourney.

Super Bomberman has been done.

What about something that most people haven't played in a while if at all. I know some of you know the variant already through Tetris Blast or Sparkliss on Super Tetris 3?

Super Bombliss.

Off the bat, ZSNES 1.36 is necessary with the ROM. I would trust people know how to find each, but if either is necessary to find...well we'll get to that. But I need to know if you guys are up to this or not first.

Overview:

Those of you who haven't played it or Tetris Blast should know that it's another variant off of Tetris. If you don't know what Tetris is, wtf? The major difference is that instead of lines clearing automatically when you make lines across horizontally, they 'trigger' bombs that are affected in the 'cleared lines' area.

To give you an idea, let's start with this example:

Now, from the look of things, player 1 is about to meet an untimely death. The position looks awful from a Tetris gamer standpoint and the player is about to have -7- lines of garbage to push him over the top (denoted by 70, which means 10 is required for 1 line; 9 would not be anything but is left over in case something does push it over). The middle 'darker' blue S piece is about to be placed...

As you might have noticed from the first shot, there were already full lines placed. However, none of these have bombs, so they won't clear. However, this effect can be stacked and the more lines you 'activate' the stronger the detonations of the bombs get. With this line on top a bomb and a super bomb is activated. Bombs in a 1-line clear general don't take out that much except half the line they're on. However, with larger line clears, they expand out. Super bombs are 4 bombs put together in a square and detonate for tremendous results. The closer to the center you get, the better. Now, lace these together and you have a nice little chain reaction...

Ka. Boom.

The damage was so incredible that 1P has literally nothing now. No garbage was taken and was in fact offset to 2P, which is now facing an 87, or 8-line, penalty.

So, to summarize, there's a lot of strategy that can come from this. A devestating 157 damage / garbage smack (that I just sent 2P) can easily be taken back against even stronger opponents.

(EDIT: Actually, it was 166. If you noticed, 2P sent another 9 damage to me before I got it taken care of with the explosions.)

Gameplay:

There are a few modes in this game, but I would like to focus on the Vs. mode for obvious reasons. The default is best 3-out-of-5. I would like to think that best 2-out-of-3 games on those 3-out-of-5 sets would be sufficient. This would give ample time for someone to come back from a slouch.

Players are welcome to forfeiture. I will say that there should be a stricter policy on those wanting to participate that haven't played. Those that don't, after a time, will likely be disqualified. I wouldn't want to place those that really want to play in a position where they have to wait around for people to get around to playing them. I would impose stricter guidelines, in that vein, than I'm used to...but nothing horrifying. We'd have to get there if this even gets approved.

The game comes with -50- different play fields. For those starting out, use the EASY type mode. This sends, for the most part, 4-piece blocks with the occasional 5. HARD sends down 5-piece blocks. Change this if you will. I would set the level to ?? (or random) unless players say otherwise. Speed can be set at 00 for now but goes all the way to 20 for those wanting to deal out the death. This is COMPLETELY negotiable by the players involved. This means that if you want to go past the default listed below, you may, just let me or this thread know.

DEFAULT:
EASY mode
Level ??
Speed 00

If we get later on in the tourney, I may change it to where the mode and speed are harder, but we'll talk about that later.

This uses ZSNES netplay. I would think 1.36 would be more than sufficient, provided you have the netplay available to do this. Those that are running low-quality 56K (there are higher qualities) may not be eligible for this tournament if your connection can't perform. To know for certain, play a few games for yourself with someone using the netplay feature. If you can't, don't bother. But, if you can or have a high-speed connection with a halfway decent comp, feel free to try out.

I don't believe I missed any of the bases. I just need to see if you guys would be interested in this. Honestly, I'd rather host it just once to see if it has any merit whatsoever. If it doesn't, I can toilet it.

Your call, guys.

If this was 20 to 18? No problem. Hell anything to 18, as long as it's above, I really don't have a problem with (for my age, I'm working above by 7 and below by 4).

18 to 16? It only takes one time for the girl to get pissy, she cries rape, you get hammered. No offense to anyone ever involved in one of these types of relationships...but unless you know for 100% certainty that the people involved aren't going to cry jailbait, I would give it a no go.

Besides, there's a good likelihood that, if they're worth it, they'll be around in a year or two anyways. Most people, however, wouldn't have the tolerance to wait for love that long.

Well, I've been given the green light to go ahead and release this, since the pack is already being distributed.

Well, there you go.
