Originally I took little interest in ExGFX, partly because I didn't know of anything unique worth using, and partly I didn't know how to actually use it correctly. But as I took a look at my work after not touching it for a good few months, I decided to give it another shot. Success! Since I managed to get ExGFX and animations working correctly, I thought it might be worth a shot to try drawing some new graphics myself (mostly from scratch). All I've planned on at the moment is new foreground stuff, and before I put a ton of time into it, I'd like to get some feedback. This is the first set I've "finished" more or less, a new forest FG trying for more of a floral/jungle feel. Comments and the like would be appreciated (constructive criticism is a GOOD thing), if something's not right, I'll see if I can work it out.
(The weird-looking stuff at the very top of the pics is just something that happened when taking the shots, not actually part of them) Of the four types of flowers on the ground, two of them (the tall yellow/orange and short red ones) are given priority so stuff goes behind them instead of in front...it's like depth or something! :o Anything to change? Maybe add something? I have a little space left in the ExGFX file and am leaning toward some more variety in the flat ground tiles (too many red flowers is bad for the Mimigas!) The colors look kinda washed out in the shots, but meh. I haven't changed anything from the default palette yet, so I'm open to suggestions on that as well. |

Alright, I made some revisions after reading replies yesterday (which was all but the last two posts). I rounded off the corners a bit, something I was unsure of at first since I've never liked the effect of standing on "nothing" when on the edge of something. Removed the flat areas of the treetops, added some more variety to the dirt part of the ground. Then, I took some larger screenshots to try and get the closest to an actual in-game view I could. Results:
Better at all? After reading the most recent posts, I'm going to see if I can get a little more variety in the currently-all-red flowers without them looking like hell. I'll give the "tall grass" thing a shot as well and see how it comes out. One question, though: Originally posted by Hhllrssstttxaaeioy Could you possibly elaborate on what you feel isn't right about the leaves? I'm not entirely happy with them, but they really have been kind of a pain. A little direction on what could be better would really help. |

I seem to remember SMAS rips being pretty overused before you made those hacks, to be honest. |
