Hey! I'm new!

Ogama there invited me. We get to be clueless newbies together.

I'm a junior in high school and a rabid FMA fan. Vic Mignogna pwns all. Especially Travis Willingham. I... totally just lost my train of thought. Bleh. Ok, enough about me See y'all around! *waves*

A young girl wipes strands of soaking lavender hair from her eyes; warm, brown eyes, kind as a mother's. Noticing the youth's tortured form staggering from nearby, she sprints toward him, just in time to see the newcomer coming to his aid. "I know some healing arts-- let me help you; but first, let's get to shelter."

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad... but it's not your fault, whatever happens. If you're happy, then he ought to be glad for you (but that's another matter...) You can at least be thankful you have a family who loves you, blood relatives or not... Sorry you have to go through this, I wish I could help *hugs*

((Ok, got my old account back! Now back to the regularly scheduled posting--))

Kaede kneels and makes a complex, graceful motion with her arms, and, whispering a spell, summons three motes to her side. The spheres of radiant blue light surround her, and a silver staff appears in her hands. She casts a spell to temporarily blind the group of opponents with a brilliant light.

((Edit: *pokes Gaara & RedFlame* Still with us...? Not much of a battle with 2 people ))

A little shaken, Kaede waves her hand to dismiss the motes, and lowers her staff. She walks up to the grave Teguru, nods, and goes on through without a word.

Left to her own devices, Kaede looks in awe at the foreboding castle and follows the group inside. She, as a guest, decides the dining room would be a good place to await the others.

Kaede holds her head in her hands and looks at the tapestry thoughtfully. She finally says, "Are you sure what you--we-- are doing... All this violence... Is this really the only way to set things right?" She pauses before adding, "There was another thing on my mind-- that boy, is there anything we can do to help him? No person should have to suffer like that, it's just-- not right. Seeing him, I can't believe the burden he has to bear."

((hmm... don't have much info, so I guess I'll take a few liberties with the storytelling))

Nodding, Kaede rises, mutters her thanks, and walks back into the foyer. She crosses the massive hall and climbs the stairs, wandering the corridors until she comes to the door. Quietly, she pushes it open, and enters. She takes a chair beside the bed and looks at him for a time, running a hand over his forehead.

Terrible images flashed across her vision-- fiery hatred. Fields of blood. Men behaving like demons. Screams of those left dying... All fragments of memories and dreams. "Those healers-- they're skilled, but there's one more thing I can do..." A pale blue light flowed from her palm and momentarily lit up their faces. The pained expression on his face faded, and a calm came over him. And-- was that a smile that played across his weary face? No, she'd imagined it... In any case, now his body would be free to focus on recovery, his mind eased. This was the most powerful of her talents by far, and one of the most taxing. "But for you..." She decided to stay by his side and wait for him to rise.

Kaede looked slightly taken aback, both by the scars-- though she was no stranger to grisly wounds, in her line of practice-- and his sudden revelation. "You knew? Normally when I work my healing magic to dispell nightmares, whoever it is falls into a deeper sleep and doesn't... well, never mind. It's just... unusual. Anyway." A mystified look lingering on her face, she continued. "If you're willing to share your memories, I'm more than willing to listen. I'd like very much to know more about this organization."

Kaede sat with her head bowed for a time, wringing her hands, her palms cold with sweat. She soon regained her composure and looked up. "Life has clearly been unknind to you--you have my sympathy--and I can see you've got some semblance of nobility, at least for those you have allied yourself with."

The girl recalled the scene from the village again. She heard the innocents' laments, saw burning rafters of a house collapsing, burying those inside alive. The settlement was destroyed in a matter of hours, blood so thickly shed on the ground it soaked through the assailants' soles, charred bodies littering the ground like leaves in the fall. The volume of the destruction that had been wrought was far more than could be justified as serving any strategic purpose. These were people who revelled in gore.

"...But you're a monster. So is this Genkimetsu, apparently, slaughtering innocents by the hundreds wantonly. I want nothing to do with it." She spat the words, her voice rising. "If this is the only way to revolution, we're better off staying as we are!" Face hot with impending tears, she added, "At least the tyrants are human." She turned as if to leave, but lingered, seemingly in expectation, longing for some assurance things were not as they seemed.

She floundered, watching him, just as helpless as he. She called out for the others, those who had tended to Daikirai before, and tried to calm her mind. Kaede then attempted to quash the dark forces surrounding him, crawling their way out from within him, employing the most powerful white magic at her disposal. She mangaged to calm the evil, if only for a few seconds.

"Daikirai! Listen to me-- I've bought you some time, but barely. Tell me anything you can, right this instant-- who is coming?" she demanded, her voice quavering as she strained against the immense power she was expending and her own fear.

((Graaah, I haven't replied in a week .o0. Sorry about that >< ...By the way, you have so many characters I've had a hard time keeping track of them all. Maybe you could make brief who's who kind of post? Thanks ))

Kaede stood back, reluctant to leave, but unsure if she should stay. Daikirai's soft moans persisted. This is rather awkward, she thought, reaching down and slowly tearing a blade of grass. She felt a hardened grin tugging at the corners of her lips. The others tarried, and a few looked back at her, awaiting her decision. She could still hear the boy's cries, though they seemed to be subsiding.

She quickly decided, "Go on ahead, I'll keep an eye on him." Kaede wasn't sure why, but she felt compelled to protect him.

((Great, thanks ^^))

Kaede screamed in horror, her legs so weak she could barely stand. Wildly, she turned, her face hot and cheeks wet, hair whipping her face. She shouted after the figures in black, calling the first names that came to mind. "Teguru! Kesiri-- anyone?! Come back, he'll die if you don't do something!" The flames, roaring and dark as night, grew in front of her eyes.

Negative emotions... she thought. That's what feeding the demon. If I can dispell his fear, I can save him. Kaede closed her eyes touched her temples on either side with her middle and forefingers. A stream of blue emerged from her forehad as she reached out with her mind as before, knowing the risk. She could be consumed as well, but she had to trust in her own constitution and strength of mind. Kaede reached desparately, fighting through the darkness, until she reached him. By then she was all but drained, her consciousness fluttering as she concentrated. Now it was up to Daikirai to grab the lifeline she had thrown him. NO, she said to him, this body is yours, now take it back.

Kaede sat up, fighting the heavy fog in her head. It took her a moment to regain composure.

She recognized the girl's face at the same time her words registered. Kaede tensed and subconsciously grabbed handfulls of the sheets as she looked up, eyes wide with astonishment. "You are... that girl from before! The one he called 'a pawn of the Church.' How did you--?" She coughed and paused before continuing. "About what you said just now. I don't think the Genkimetsu were using him at all, though I'm sure having him around didn't hurt. They're like his family, and I believe they love him. Whether they've corrupted him or not is beyond my judgment."

Kaede noticed her burn-wounds had been dressed in ointment and bandages she in a clean while gown, and her clothes were folded neatly nearby. Daikirai's blood had all but been washed out of her pale blue attire, and the burned patches from the black flames had been mended. She nodded towards them and touched the medical wrapping encircling her forehead. "Thanks for that." She thought in wonderment how this beautiful girl no older than herself could be the face of the enemy before going on, "I guess this means you got him, too. What are you planning on doing with Daikirai, now that your forces have finally captured him-- unless I'm mistaken?" And what could they possibly want with me? she thought. Or perhaps she hasn't turned us in yet...? Somehow I doubt it,

"Well... it looks like I had you wrong. I was under the impression that you were our enemy-- remember that little battle the other day? You, or at least those you've aligned yourself with, are the enemy of the Genkimetsu, which Daikirai (and myself, I guess), was obviously a part of--" She took a moment to work through the situation in her head. Now in the presence of friends, she appeared to be more relaxed. Kaede finally declared, "Right, now I'm confused. But in any case, you've probably saved both our lives, or at least Daikirai's, and in my book that's reason enough to trust you. I'm in your debt. Thanks," Kaede said with a smile and a brisk nod.

"Now... do you know how long he'll take to heal?" She gazed at the incredible seal that slowly restored the boy who had just hours ago been a hair's breadth from death with-- envy? Such powers were far beyond the scope of her present abilities. She vowed to work harder to become an even better healer. Kaede then turned to Daikirai, "What are you going to do next? I'm not sure which path is the right one for me, right now. I'd rather not join the insurgents who call themselves the Genkimetsu, but I'm not sure about the Church, either. What will you do?"

It didn't take long for her to reply. "Sure, I'll go with you. I don't really have a path to follow, so I'll just have to see what happens and obey my instinct. Just let me know when you're feeling good enough to travel."

((I was kinda expecting another post...? Ok then, I'll just go ahead))

Kaede stepped through as well. She felt the cool rush of seaspray on her face as soon as she set foot into the new realm and a soft wind played through her hair. All was quiet except the gentle rolling of the ancient sea. It seemed this new world had been created solely for the purpose of being a final resting place for the dead; as dignified and solemn as a chapel, earth, sea, and sky all played a soft requiem. The heavens were a mournful chalky gray and the willow tree itself, a tired sentry, seemed to weep as droplets from a recent storm that had caught in its branches watered the earth. Its limbs were weighted down by the rain and hung limply as the water fell in small trickles, as one weakened by abject sorrow and hours of crying.

She observed Daikirai's reverent posture before the tombstone and bowed her head similiarly out of respect. Holding her folded hands to her chest just under her chin, she uttered a soft prayer of condolence for the deceased's survivors and for the former a peaceful rest.

((Hmm... I've been thinking about this for a couple days, let's see... Here goes nothin')) ((By the way, how do you pronounce "Daikirai"? Is it [die-KEE-ray]?))

Kaede left Daikirai knelt before the tombstone, immersed in his thoughts. She tread across the earth softly and found a bare patch a little ways away. She scratched a small quantity of soil off the top layer of earth and rubbed it between her fingers. This particular graveyard was very old indeed; the soil had been enriched by the minerals of centuries of decomposing bodies. It was elegant in a morbid way.

Kaede was roused from her brief respite by the sound of steel on fresh earth. Looking up, she strode towards the source of the sound. A man nearing the end of middle age was digging a grave, his back hunched prematurely from years of his work. "'Morning, sir," he greeted him, and he looked up, returning the greeting. The blade of his shovel once again tasted earth, when he stiffened. Kaede looked at him, suprised. Before she had opened her mouth, his bowed head whipped up with alarming speed and the color drained from his lined face. His pale eyes clouded with horror as he looked at her. The man's head budged slightly, then more noticably, then he swung it furiously from side to side and panted. "V-vengeful spirit of the young g-girl! Please forgive me, I--" he halted and slumped to his knees, cowering before her. A small scream escaped her lips. "What... is--?" she said in a harsh whisper.

She noticed the name inscribed upon the unblemished white stone.
