Hi all,
My name is kenghot my site is www.kenghot.com, I come from small country "Thailand". I just completed 100% for ff3 nds translation to my own language (Thai) and released it to Thai's gamer on 11/1/2006 .
It quite successful for this project. So I need to do next project and I've plan to translate FF5 or FF6 on GBA . After I start hacking gba rom , i've found that it's more difficult than NDS . So, Anybody would tell me , where should i start or what exactly i need to know for hacking GBA rom?

Welcome to the group! There are some good GBA hackers around here, but GBA hacking is a lot harder than NES or SNES hacking, I think.



In Thailand, we don't have much commercail game. Coz moslty we consume prirate copies. So nobody want to invest in Thai
For Thai font, I did all myself . I've to create about 1,000 fonts to cover all dialogs.

Hi,
I'll still around here . Even not have an approval, but in this site still have a lot of knowlage for me coz i'm really intersting in GBA Rom hack.I might new for GBA hacking but not for NDS i hope some day i may share my experience about NDS to the others.
I'm a .net programmer so i can create tools with a good GUI and easy to use. After ff3 us version release. I've done a utility to edit font in this game. It might be help people who want to translate this game in their own language

I'm starting to hack rom "FF6 gba". I might need some help form you here. And i'll report what i've found in this topic. After i open rom today , i found that some data in this rom is uncopress and found font that use in battle . by using Tile Molester at offset 0x72da18



To do list
1. What type of compression does it use?
2. where is offset of font that use in dialogue box and in menu?
3. where is offset of all text?

As for compression.. I'm not sure if you're referring to specifically graphics compression, but for most of the game data, you might look at the SNES release to see if the same, or very similar data exists. I doubt they'd bother changing something as fundamental as map formats, tilesets, event scripting, etc. for a quick re-release like this, but who knows. Graphics format might be similar as well, it's worth a look.

If you do need SNES FF6 information, I can refer you to the guy who wrote FF3Ed.

Now, i found that Some data of ff6 gba has a LZ77 compression. by using lz77 uncopress at offest 0x510760. I got this

I'm sorry that i need to post a new thread to update the progress coz i cann't double post in last thread.

Now. I found offset of font , it starts at 0x164da4 detail of font start at 2nd byte total 36 byte. 12x12 pixel use 2 bit to indentify color.
01=white , 10=black(shadow)

now i've created a tool for edit font , now it's 50% completed.

2006 Dec 15,
60% Thai font was finished. And My tools is ready for translator (in dialogue section). I think this project 'll finish before Us version release.
