Uh yeah, that includes a lot of tweaks people probably won't want. Changing the font in Notepad, disabling hibernation and allowing the recycle bin to be renamed really don't belong with performance-related tweaks. There's also a lot of side effects to be aware of.

-Speed up NTFS performance prevents the Last Accessed date from being updated, which some people actually use. I'm not even sure what Win95TruncatedExtensions is for.

-Disable IMAPI CD Burning means many CD burning programs, not just the one built in, won't work.

-Changing MenuShowDelay is NOT recommended. That delay is there for a reason; without it, you get like 3 or 4 different submenus popping up at once as you go through a menu, which is really annoying and can confuse programs. It doesn't only apply to the Start menu as some people believe; it applies to every menu.

-Disabling Messenger Service is usually a good thing, but there are people who use that. (Messenger Service = net send.)

-Enable Word Wrap in Notepad... er, this is pretty easy to do, just look in the menu.

-Disable Hibernation? Why?

-Disabling the indexing service can improve performance, but it makes searches slower.

-Disabling the Help And Support service is only recommended if you know what you're doing. The troubleshooter may be useless 90% of the time, but for people who aren't computer-savvy, it can be a good thing.

So yeah, be careful what you tweak. BTW, did you copy this from somewhere or did you make it? It looks a lot like the big tweak files you see at other sites.

I did that once, and it was fun. I still have the soundfile of it somewhere.

Well every emulator I have includes Nemu. I fear if I ran Nemu and any other N64 or SNES emulator at the same time, my CPU would explode from stress.

Posted on 05-15-06 04:14 AM, in Passwords on HP recovery CDs Link
A few years ago I made the mistake of buying an HP Pavillion XG843. That computer has since been destroyed, but I still have the system recovery CDs that came with it. They contain, among other things, copies of some old Office programs, and my mom wants to install them on her computer. We bought the system and the bundled software, and it's not installed on anything at the moment, so legally this shouldn't be a problem, but apparently HP didn't think of that scenario (or more likely just didn't care). The programs are all stored in password-protected .zip files (renamed to a.paq, b.paq etc).
Running the recovery program on her computer isn't an option; it won't run on anything besides the computer it came with. In fact after I was forced to reformat the hard drive it wouldn't even run on that computer anymore. I have a program doing a brute-force password attack on one of the files; it's gone though all the 1- to 6-letter passwords but it's going to take up to 80 days for the 7-letter ones, which is just plain no good. (It runs in the background, using very little CPU power, but still, that's a bit long to leave my computer on. And that's only the 7-letter passwords.)
So the question is, does anybody know the password for these files, or how to find it? I'm not going to pay HP for the privilege to ask them, since I know they won't tell me anyway. I already looked through the first 100 results on Google.

Also try Set DDPalette = Call object.GetPalette. A wild guess but I think that's what Call does.

I tried to go to #403 but there's always a brick wall in front of the portal. And #404 doesn't even seem to exist. Try #64, though! The world is a giant video game!
Hm, and #i is.... WTF? Lot of turtles there, that's for sure.

Oh and whatever you do, stay out of #90210. I'm not going to explain why. Too horrible.
