They probably just forgot to set some flag in the key's sprite info, or never thought to (or just didn't care to) add code to prevent this.

Uhh... learn all the ins and outs of ASM and the SNES's sprite hardware, and a lot about SMW's sprite engine, then if you still think you can do it, you probably know all you'll need to by then.

First off, use PNG for screenshots.

As for the images...
  • Skinny pipes look alright, except in the corners.
  • Big pipes are too bright, and many things including them have too few colours.
  • No backgrounds?
  • Giant Piranha Plants, Nipper Plants, and Piranha Plants at the end of vines are cool. Also way to use the original Piranha Plant.
  • The oil might look better without the white dots in it.
  • The fire is ugly.
  • BMF, not BFM.
  • Having a frozen room is a nice idea, but I can't tell what half the objects are.
  • The furnace is another cool idea.
  • The 'E' and 'S' used on your blocks in the furnace are too tall. Actually more like all the other letters are too short. (The 'A' looks like an 'R').
  • A laser maze is neat, but relying on colours could be a problem for colourblind people. Just making the red ones invisible would be better. Also, most real lasers are red, not white. That flaming enemy at the top looks cool, but why is there a flower on it? BTW, having a lot of mazes in a row isn't very fun.

Overall the graphics aren't very good but the level design looks promising.

Well I have a few empty NES cases, but that's without controller ports (still has the power/reset buttons though ). Thing is I also have no money, so I wouldn't be able to pay the shipping for it.

Posted on 04-12-06 06:49 PM, in DestroyWindow() + Multiple Threads = Bad Link
Well that's a good idea, but the trick is Thread A has no way to actually determine the child window's handle. Thread B is code in a plugin, which could be giving the window any title, class etc or even not creating one, and it can't be relied on that this code will report the correct handle back to Thread A when it's done.

It all looks pretty damn nice. If I may make a suggestion, though, make the 'star fence' have layer priority (so Mario and enemies walk behind it). Also, putting some right where Mario enters the level would help show that you can walk through it.

Pretty good for all original GFX, though the ? block being gray could get confusing. BTW, you can just change the sprite graphic index for the underground area, so long as you don't use other sprites there that rely on whatever index you use now.

I especially like this one:

It kinda looks like one of those "4-dimensional rooms".

That'd explain why he only has one tooth. Storing oil there would be a bad idea anyway; seeing how there's FIRE coming out of the pipes, they'd probably heat up pretty quick.

BTW, we say "colour" here in Canada too.

Posted on 04-12-06 09:21 PM, in Not enough free space to burn a CD? Link
When trying to burn a CD with my new NEC 4551A DVD burner, Windows tells me there's not enough free disk space for the image to burn. It's only 600MB of files, and the disk it's supposed to put the image on has 55GB free! If I try using a disk that actually doesn't have enough space, it tells me how much more I would need, but for this one it doesn't even show that text. (In the screenshot, the blue square is where this text would be.)

I've tried changing various CD-related options, putting the image on a different drive (though F:\ is the only one that actually has enough space), rebooting, and checking drive F:\ for errors. It can read CDs and DVDs just fine, and since it never even gets to the actual writing, I don't see how it'd be a drive problem.

[edit] OK what the hell. I freed up 1.2GB by moving things to other disks and emptying the recycle bin. It gets farther into "creating disc image" but still fails, and the free space for F:\ has only gone up by 0.4GB. It even told me once, before it even started making the image, that the disc was unusable, but I just took it out and put it back in and it stopped saying that.

Big computer glitch I guess?

This reminds me of the reports that someone who rented a movie in 1999 and returned it in 2000 got a 100-year late fee.

Well that worked (I used a program called ISO Recorder to burn the image; it hung when it was done though ) but I still can't imagine why it would have done this. Any ideas?

Oh yeah and thanks for the help. Putting the label and path in quotes worked fine BTW.

[edit] OK, now WTF? It reads DVD movies fine, but it reads blank DVD-RWs as blank, zero-byte CDRWs.

[edit 2] After rebooting, I have an unknown PCI Device with no drivers in PCI slot 2, and the device that's actually there is supposedly in slot 3 which is empty.

Alright, I'll try Nero (the burner came with it, so yay ). I'm probably just going to reinstall Windows anyway though, it's starting to do other weird things (Not remembering passwords, windows always appearing right in the corner, etc).

What brand is it? A lot of brands of it don't actually string very well for me. Halfway down it just breaks off. Though they're good even as one big block, and it doesn't matter if they sit in a backpack for a few days.

Yeah, it's only expensive because it can be. It's like $4.50 a minute to call the US from here, and it's not exactly that far away. Fortunately I have very little reason to do so.
