Can you say "sitting too close to the TV"?

The screenshot actually looks very distorted, as if it were in the middle of some 3D wave effect. Still cool though.

On most systems, I think the CPU just stops/locks up. Some newer ones (N64 and I think DS) fire an interrupt if configured to do so.

You have to either edit the graphics or use ExGFX in every level that contains them. Once your graphics are in, use the Map16 editor to apply them.

What would be cool is if you used the standard Ledge object for the pink parts, and stacked the ledeg tops on top of eachother, making the grassy tile pink and the just-sand tile invisible. Then it'd not only look like the platforms in Bubble Bobble, but act like them too.

Now if you could get Bubble Bobble music in there...

That does work, but you need to put your code in the same bank which can be difficult. I prefer to just replace however many instructions I need with a JSL:

<original>
LDA $06
TAX
INX

<new>
JSL EmptySpace

EmptySpace:
LDA $06
TAX
INX
[do something cool here]
RTL

As long as they aren't stack-related instructions, you're fine (and if they are, you can sometimes get away with BRAnching to the new code and back).

Yeah, that was a pretty well-known bug.

Hm, in this one N64 Star Wars game, I put in some cheat code to play as an enemy ship. After about 10 minutes flying around in this ship the game went wacky. Basically it just stopped erasing old frames from the screen. I could still move and shoot, but like if I shot a laser, the image would stay there on the screen forever. Eventually it just froze.

And one time in Diddy Kong Racing, I hit someone with a homing missle just right and they got stuck against the wall. They just kept backing up, then driving into the wall again. I also knocked people into shortcuts, and they'd actually turn around and try to get out and take the normal way (which is fun in cases like the well in Greenwood Village, where you can't back out).

Oooh... probably my biggest game-related "WTF?" of all. The first time I got to the castle in Chrono Trigger. I'd named the main character Hyper as I tend to do. Needless to say I was a bit surprised when the chef offered me a Hyper Kabob! (Just a coincidence though.)

It is different, though. When you're just using a D-pad, you're not moving aside from pushing down with your thumb. In this case you're actually swinging your arm. It could be confusing, since the sword in the game stops but your arm doesn't due to momentum.

If you look closely, you see that the wave effect is there becuse it's on a piece of paper.

No, it's not that. Look near the hips of the guy in the front. It looks like he's reflected in rippling watter or something.

Posted on 04-12-06 03:09 AM, in DestroyWindow() + Multiple Threads = Bad Link
It seems if I do this:
1) Create a window using CreateDialogParam() in Thread A
2) Create a child of that window, also using CreateDialogParam(), in Thread B
3) Destroy the child window in Thread B
4) Destroy the original window in Thread A

The DestroyWindow() call in Thread A pukes and throws an exception. Delaying several seconds to ensure the child window is destroyed doesn't appear to help. Is this a known issue, or did I screw up somewhere? I know you can't create a window in one thread and destroy it in another, but that's not what I'm doing. The main window's message handler is in Thread A, and the child's is in Thread B; I'm not entirely sure you're supposed to do that, but it seems to be working.

Oddly enough, this doesn't always happen. When a specific button on the main window is clicked it tells Thread B to destroy the child window, waits for it to do so, and then destroys the main window; this is when it crashes. However, another button destroys the child window and leaves the main one alone. If I click that first, then the button that destroys both, it works just fine. (It doesn't talk to Thread B at all if the child window doesn't exist.) So it seems to work if both windows aren't destroyed in response to the same window message. (It works if they're done in two different MessageProc() calls.)

Heh, cool. Wouldn't it be easier (and a bit cooler) to just allow people to import a small WAV for the voice clip though? It'd have to sound better than a monotonous computer-generated voice.
